As far as I remember, the reason some people spell it "Juel" rather than "Jewel" is because Jewel herself did this when she was in her teen years, like so many teens do. (When I was 12 I went between spelling my name the original way, Sandy, to Sandi, Sandie, and Sandee) It's part of an identity thing, trying to find yourself. She decided to change around the spelling of her name to 'Juel', it's even on the bottom of a yearbook picture that I've seen of Jewel on the net with two other girls, it says the two other girls names and "Juel Kilcher".
