I have been on this e-mailing list for about a week now, and I am blown away by the resources, the enthusiasm and the kindness the EDAs seem to have. I only have two Jewel recordings, "Pieces of You" and "Spirit", but I really enjoy her music and particularly her lyrics. Her writing is uniquely special in that she is able to convey personal experiences or observations using universal examples and diction as her palette. One day, a friend of mine was being offhandedly critical of Jewel's poetry for being too simple and "adolescent", and what I keep wishing I said (but I didn't) is: Fine. Let's see YOU write something -- anything at all -- that moves me and speaks to me like Jewel's writing, and I will understand your point of view. Until you write like that though, don't be so critical. Personal favourite Jewel songs are: "Morning Song", "Absence of Fear", and "What's Simple is True" in that order. I mean, all of Jewel's songs are great, but these three are my favourites. Anyway, just wanted to say hi to you all, and that I hope to expand my Jewel collection (or "angelfood"). For those of you on the EDA Yearbook site who have met Jewel or had your photo taken with her, you're all very lucky people! Take care all, Jay _____ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Jul 00 15:34:06 -0400 From: tony potts Subject: * NJC:Girls Room Tour/Michigan Gathering? Hi all! Monday, the Girls Room Tour is coming to Pontiac, MI and I was wondering if any Michigan EDAs would like to get together and go. To all you MI EDAs, I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to all of you yet, I've been away for a while, and I'm just starting to get caught up, but I'll talk to you soon. But, anyway, if anyone is planning or wanting to go, please let me know, we could go together, it'd be fun! And I'm super excited because my friend Keri Noble is openning, yay!!! Well, e-mail me privately and maybe we can set something up. This will be a great chance for anyone who hasn't seen Tara Maclean before (although, she's cancelled two recent shows because of strep throught, so, hopefully she'll be performing!). :-) tony - -trying to remember how to fly ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Jul 2000 18:16:00 EDT From: Buster2530@aol.com Subject: * Jewel Lawsuit in 1998?? EDA's, I was just searching for stuff on Jewel on the net.....and I came across an article that was posted on Seventeen Online Magazine or something. Here is the article... >Jewel's former manager, Inga Vainshtein, filed a suit against the Alaskan >singer and her mom (and current manager) Nedra Carroll on Monday in Los >Angeles. Vainshtein claims that she discovered Jewel five years ago -- you >know, when she was yodeling in coffeehouses and living out of her car -- but >was unceremoniously sacked so that the singer's mom could take over >management duties. Variety reports that Vainshtein is alleging breach of >contract and is seeking a whopping $10 million in damages. Does anyone know the outcome of this? And the details? Just wondering. -John *No-name angel* ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Jul 2000 22:06:16 -0400 From: "The Nirvana Loving Angel" Subject: * Marital Carnival Does anyone know the lyrics to marital carnival that I can have or know a website that has Jewel lyrics on them? Unfortunately there isn't going to be anything special written here, so skip this if you don't like reading people's pointless random thoughts. :) I thought the beginning of Jewel's appearance was a little awkward. My brother (who is also and EDA) and I were all happy to see her riding horses. Then when she was replying to the "mule" comment and shoved her butt in Skeet's face we were like, "What?! Ahh!" Then I soon realized that Sue Lee was pretty much an old fashioned slut...wow! That's like the old lady in "The Wedding Singer." "I had intercourse with eight men before I was married. That was a lot back then. That would be like two hundred today!" :) In the beginning when Jewel was acting all flirtatious and such I thought that was a little weird. But as soon as she started to get concerned about the fights, upset about all of the death, and just plain sad, I thought she did a spectacular job...kind of interesting. Anyway, I loved the movie because of how real it seemed. I saw "The Patriot" right after that and it was so funny to see how Hollywood just gored it up. So I felt that "Ride with the Devil" was very classy and I'm glad that Jewel chose and was chosen to act in in. - -Deirdre ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jul 2000 14:52:58 -0700 (PDT) From: kevin maguire Subject: * Jewel Single???
