This entire Jewel concert (including Duncan Sheik's warmup set) is currently archived in The Digital Arena area at Atlantic Records website. This show was originally webcast live and it's a good show from her first tour with a band and quite similar to the well-known "Jewel Rocks The Paradise" Boston gig a few nights later. In related trivia, we included some commentary about this show in Jewel's "Life Uncommon" home video release as well as some live video footage. Following this show, that same night was significant for another reason. Afterwards, Jewel was the guest of honor at a private party where she was presented with the Gold Record for "Pieces Of You". "You Were Meant For Me" was beginning it's climb up the charts eventually rescuing Steve Poltz from poverty and rescuing the rest of the world from "The Macarena"! ;-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 00:57:58 EDT From: MandyP311@aol.com Subject: * What ever happened to... Hey guys and gals! What's up? I was wondering what ever happened to the Jewel polls that used to be on the list? Maybe we ran out of questions to ask. Who knows? Mandy Petzold :) *Maybe I will call myself the Jayhawk Angel ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 01:00:37 EDT From: MandyP311@aol.comx Subject: * What are YOU most proud of Jewel for? I have a question for everybody out there. I asked the question in the JewelLink about what Lenedra is most proud of Jewel for.. (It is below if you missed it) Now, here is my question to EDA's. What are you most proud of Jewel for? Is it the music, poetry, her movie, humanatarian efforts, etc... etc... Mandy :) Mandy Petzold did an excellent job of representing what many of you wanted to know by specifically asking: Out of all the great things your daughter, Jewel, has accomplished, what are you most proud of her for? Is it the singing, the book, the movie, or the humanitarian in her that you admire her most for? Lenedra replies: A number of the questions received were about the relationship between Jewel and me, so I will address some of these over the next several JeweLink communications. Mandy Petzold, for instance, asked which accomplishments (book, CD, movie, music, humanitarian focus) I am the most proud of and admire Jewel the most for. While I greatly respect and enjoy Jewel’s artistic gift and prolific creative output, it is her commitment to personal growth that I admire most. She is committed to learning to evolve her behaviors and thoughts in ways that create more health within her and in all of her relationships. Jewel faces her fears and limitations with courage and determination. I have witnessed her passage through many hard-won personal transitions and I am in awe of her courage. Jewel possesses a breathtaking willingness to be honest, to self assess, to change, to correct and improve, to accept advice and wisdom and to develop her own wisdom and intuition. It is this willingness and the results of applying it, that makes her a human being that I can thoroughly delight in over a lifetime. -Lenedra ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 02:08:38 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: * Re: What ever happened to... Brett, the dude that used to do the polls on this list (I think he got up to the upper forties in poll numbers) basically does not have the time anymore, as he was concentrating on his studies and preparing to head off to Cornell this fall. (congrats Brett!) Maybe after he's in college a spell and settles in there, we can look forward to some Ivy League enhanced polls asking about how we relate the meaning of some of Jewel's poetry/lyrics in comparison to some of Newtons' theories and Carl Sagan's writings and whatnot. Mike :-) P.S. He WAS running out of ideas too.....he and I used to rack our brains (mine is NOT Ivy League material) trying to come up with a new poll. * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand, * or have a burning question about Jewel and/or the list, * The Jewel/EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.quackquack.net/jewel * Many basic/common Jewel and list questions can be answered there :-) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 09:56:28 EDT From: Beemer430@aol.com Subject: * Tabs for Painters or Adrian? I've been really surfing the web lately to find tab to two of my favorite Jewel songs....Painters and Adrian. But everywhere I go either doesn't have it completed or not at all. I need some help here. Does anybody have a completed version of either Painters of Adrian, and would be willing to email it me? I would appreciate it a lot. I didn't listen to the music, really. It was just this quote. After that I didn't see the album again, but this quote was like in my head and I'm like, "WHO! WHO THE HELL SAID THAT~!" I joined one of those music clubs that annoy you (I ignore my service SO much) but I didn't know that. Around the second time I bought something; I ordered Juel since my niece--a bit of trivia: she's 14, I'm 13--had it and I was just listening to the music. I hadn't noticed the quote. When I received my CD I read the quote and my face just lit up, "Omigod I FOUND IT!!" It thought the first song was weird but had a funky bass. But I learned to love the song. I'm going to the 9th grade this September. Before vacation, in June, I wore the EDA t-shirt, like, every week. I told my friends, "You guys, I just want you to know, I'm not in a cult or something," as an explanation about the EDAs and just as a joke. My friend Rachel came right after I explained the whole thing to them. She sees me in the t-shirt and the first thing out of her mouth is, "What, are you in a cult or something?" Also, my friends used to think I was stuck up because my AIM screen name is nyeda999, which is, of course, New York Every Day Angel, but my friends aren't angels so they didn't know what nyeda stood for. When I told them, Rachel (once again) was like, "Oh gosh, what the hell are you talking about; you're such a devil." I had to explain that too. ===== ~*Liz*~ the Misplaced Angel HARMLESS & SHAMELESS PLUGS (if you can, check 'em out!) Hey everyone...wow I haven't posted in awhile.. hmm...Jewel has so many good qualities that link together so it's kinda hard to just name one point, but I think that I am most proud of Jewel's bravery and determination. She constantly strived for success and didn't give up until she got it. I think that it is important for everyone to live their dream no matter how big or small it is. Her concern for others whether it be emotionally through her songs and poetry, or physically through charities is also something that I am proud of. I admire the way she is able to express true feelings through many different creative processes in order to get her message across to many different people.... anyway..so what are you most proud of Jewel for? - -Jade *Tiny Angel* ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 12:56:54 EDT From: AESTHETE99@aol.com Subject: * NJC:Petty things I've probably not posted in a year or more, but read the list as many do. I've been on the list since 1996 and the only piece of advice I have in reference to nasty little arguments that crop up from time to time is this: Don't sweat them. They come and go as do many members on this list and six months from now no one will remember exactly what pissed each other off and we'll all still love the music. So, relax and anjoy the roller-coaster. Because it is a quality most of us posess above everyone else in the real world. I am most proud of her ability of expression. If not for this, we wouldnt have any of her music OR poetry or anything out of her...She could have kept it all to herself. For some... finding a way of expression can be hard. Im proud that she has found THIS way, and it turns out to have some excelent outcomes that we all know and love. Getting on stage and singing before thousands to some can seem like a nightmare. (The kind where you're in your pajamas no less!) But at least I know for myself...I don't think twice about it. Im already there! Or showing someone your deepest thought in Poetry or Song, Takes guts because you're always a heartbeat away from rejection. She could have remained the little girl in Alaska, singing with her parents...And we would have never heard of her, or even had a whim of thought toward her. But her expression was different that theirs...And the little bit of will she had in her, went a LONG WAY! ~JADE~ *(The poetic-ly inclined angel)* "My struggle is harsh and I come back with eyes tired at times from having seen the unchanging earth, but when your laughter enters it rises to the sky and it opens for me all the doors of life." - -Pablo Neruda- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 14:35:00 EDT From: Jamieangel1@aol.com Subject: * the "eda" issue In a message dated 7/16/00 12:26:18 AM Central Daylight Time, owner-jewel-digest@smoe.org writes: << I'd like to know how many "true EDAs" are on this list. How many of you make it a *regular affair* to go to homeless shelters and soup kitchens, and pick up trash on the beach, help old ladies cross the street, give money, save a whale, nurse the sick, etc? How many of y'all do that for the majority of your spare time? If that what makes one an EDA, I'll bet only a small percentage of us would be "true EDAs" then. >> Hey guys... I really have no direct opinion on this, cuz basically, I could care less if I'm a "true EDA" or not, but I do have a few thoughts, so I figured screw it, I'll write a post. I've been on this list for 4 years. When people ask me if I'm an EDA....I say yes. I do volunteer to help people some time...but only when I feel like it, to be honest. I've done my share of helping my fellow man, whether it be dropping a dime in that bum's cup last Tuesday or holding a door for a lady with a baby carriage. I don't feel like an EDA more or less because I do these things. I guess I'm just saying that when Jewel wrote the song that is starting this whole eda mess, I'm sure she just meant that we're human. Not that we spend our time at beaches saving baby seals or at soup kitchens handing out mush. That's your own thing. If you're doing it to be a "true EDA" or you think you're a "true EDA" because you do it, then fine, you go ahead an think that for yourself, but it's not gonna change my mind about your status of edaism. =) Thanks, Jamie *the everyotherday angel* ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 18:04:27 EDT From: Spirit1924@aol.com Subject: * What I'm most proud of Jewel for!!! Hey Angels, I am pround of everything Jewel has done. I don't think there is anything that Jewel didn't do beautifully. She has great songs and poetry, an AMAZING voice, acting talent, and she is strong and has been through ALOT! Jewel, as every EDA can plainly see, is just a miracle all on her own and an angel to people all over the world. EDA's- Last night I was watching all of my tapes that I have of Jewel performances adn apperances and I started to think about all the bickering and negativity that has started to rise in that last couple weeks from this group. And then I started to think of all the positive things that come from this group. We are supposed to be a group that is here because we all found something within Jewel. We all love her music and we love her. What do you think she would be thinking about all that is going on now...? I doubt that she would be happy about the things that have been said and the people that have been hurt by other peoples actions in this group. We, in some way, are representing Jewel, we represent what her music is about and we represent what she is all about, but because we keep fighting about things all it is going to do is make us look like a big joke. If we could do anything for Jewel it would be support her descisions and help by keeping this group a solid one... so guys lets try and make all the fighting and bickering a past time and continue on being a positive group... that any artist would be proud to have!!
