Need responses ASAP! As most of you have probably heard, Steve's campsites have decided to close and we had to find an alternative at the last minute :-( (any rich EDA wanna buy it ;-) Anyway, after checking into many campgrounds, the same problems exist as did before - only a couple campgrounds in the area can/will accomodate such a large group together and don't have some quiet time starting at like 9:00pm and is still cheap enough for our EDA's who need to spend as little as possible. Unfortunately it's looking like the options we are left with (at least for this year). Option #1 is Sleepy Hollow campgrounds - those of you who have attended in the past years may remember passing them in Phoenicia along the creek/river right on Rt. 28. They assure me they have sites further from the road where we'll be placed (on 5 sites), so hopefully it's not too open..... The plus side, however, is that they have showers and flushing toilets etc.... The cost per night is a little more, but not too much - it will be $8.50 per person per night, but if I remember correctly, Steve had raised the price last year to $7, so it's pretty close..... Quiet time here is 11pm-7am, but I'm also assured that there will not be anyone too close to us. Option #2 is The Hideaway Campgrounds, which has more trees, and privacy, but has no flushing toilets (at least near the site we'll be on) and has two port-a-potties at the front of the site and no showers! The cost here is still $5 per person per night. Quiet time here, I believe was 12am-7am, but loosely enforced. *Note from Mike*: When the decision is made, I will post detailed instructions on how to find the chosen camgrounds. Sleepy Hollow is incredibly easy to find, as is Hideaway, although I would have more detail and online pictures to guide you all to Hideaway. These are are main choices and I have reservations right now at each, but need to cancel at whichever one we won't be using ASAP in the interest of being considerate, so please let me know what you guys think ASAP :-) Neither has a web site..... Also, when you respond to this please let me know when you think you will be arriving and who is coming with who etc...... (Kelly, have you talked to Steve Messina?) There is the usual plan of tubing at least once for those interested - the town tinker has a web site so you can check out prices, etc... at http://www.towntinker.com - if you think you may want to do it, please review the site for any additional items you may want to pack for it :-) (Don't worry if you don't plan to go - there will be others not going - my girls are not old enough, so I'll be skipping the tubing again this year myself :-) A couple of us are also planning to try to go horseback riding (probably Saturday morning) We will be going to Silver Springs Ranch - their hours are 9:30-5 and the cost is $18 for 1/2 hour and $25 for an hour. I'm sure we will also make our usual trek into the town of Woodstock, and the Bearsville Theatre for those who like to go back and revisit for a few minutes :-) There will also be the annual tape grab bag, so don't forget to make a mixed tape of your favorite artists (remember no Jewel :-) Please check out the web site for the list of attendees etc... at http://www.quackquack.net/bv/bv2000.htm Lovies and stuff to you all!!!! I agree that the arguments on this list are definately getting out of hand, but it's statements like the above that only help add to the fire. Since when are ages listed in people's posts... how can you conclude that the problem is out of hand because of "so-called EDA's" (which you pinpointed as young adults)? Who are you to judge who is a *real* EDA and who falls into the so-called category? Seriously..that post offended me, and I'm not trying to start any fights (send all hate mail to *me* not the list, please), but come on-- you can't make *blanket* generalizations like "most young adults are blah blah blah " (no, i'm sorry, being 31 does not qualify you to do that. Being superior in age doesn't give you the right to make generalizations about younger fans, nor does it make you a superior-Eda). I don't care if someone is 2 or 89.56--> we're fans because of the music, and the EDA lifestyle, and to imply that we're pseudo-Eda's is way out of line. The young EDA's need to relize they need to be the difference that > makes a difference.>>> I bet most of us (despite being what you call *young*) do make a difference. We;re out there in the community volunteering, and performing those little unrecognized daily acts of kindness that would bring a smile to Jewel's face. You don't have to be 31 to do that... Why divide this group into the "young EDA's", and the Eda's. It's just the EDA's**. Can you really pinpoint someone's age from their post, anyway? Seriously, you can't tell people they're 'so-called Eda's' or blame the discussion list problem on age... A few weeks ago, when I was volunteering in a nursing home, a little girl came in with a CD player, put on POY for her granny, and it was such a beautiful scene I almost cried. Here there sat a little pigtailed girl, sharing Jewel with her bedridden granny... the generation gap disappeared, and it was so beautiful to watch. We're so focused on the "Eda" title and who is deserving of it.... <>> Really? Says who ? Is there some "EDA" test to pass before you're given the title? Are there admission standards? Should I apply? Where do I get the application form.... I agree that if someone claims to hold onto the EDA label and the "in the end only kindness matters" mantra, yet spends their spare time stealing from the poor and breaking into parked cars, they're *probably* not worthy of the title despite being a jewel fan. But I also doubt that any of us on this list are that bad..... =) <> *EXACTLY*! And different walks of life includes different ages! Couldn't have put it better myself. THank you *claps*. That's all. Just a comment. I'm crawling back into hiding again. I had to stand up for the below-30 crowd. Can't we all just get along? *whines* I promise I'll shut up now..stuff like this just gets to me. I agree with what Rich (aka T-shirt-man) said though--> this list is in major need of a little pick-me-up. He suggested sharing our stories of how we first discovered Jewel... I think that's just what the list needs.. to forget about the *title* for a bit and just remember how/why we found jewel. Anyway, what do I know..I'm just a young one =) Lori Just an Eda P.S. I do feel bad for just sparking more debate, so if anyone wants to yell/swear/call me unflattering names, please mail me personally out of respect for the other EDA's that don't want to read any more on this topic. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Jul 2000 15:25:40 EDT From: EDAngel1014@aol.com Subject: * EDA Gathering Question (Maine) Umm.. I've never been to a gathering. i would like to go to the gathering in Bearsville that's coming up, but 1 - my Mom won't let me and 2 - we live too far away. I'm not trying to continue fueling this arguement, but honestly, I never knew when I joined this list that you had to meet critical guidelines in order to be a Jewel fan and discuss Jewel-related topics. All these topics that have turned into debates are not to blamed on anyone in particular. Just because we have disagreements, doesn't make us any less EDA's. Sure, this list, and the "EDA" title, are more than a discussion group about Jewel, but don't forget that it *IS* a discussion group. Therefore, we have a right to discuss things, and of course, in any discussion, people are going to get offended, or disagree at times. I don't think that means we are any less EDA's. That does not affect the way we think or feel or the things we do, that makes us an EDA. I think most importantly we need to remember that although to many people being an EDA is important, and is more than just being a Jewel fan, this is still a Jewel fan discussion list, and therefore, people are going to discuss. Maybe you don't like having to read through the posts of discussions you are not interested in, but that doesn't mean *everyone* isin't interested in them, and if you join a fan list, you have to expect bad discussions with the good. You can't expect to be interested in everything that's said, but if you start reading a post, and you aren't interested in it. Delete it. Is it really that big of deal? Obviously you aren't going to like everything you come by, but that's life. It would be nice if there was less fighting on the list, but with the number of people on the list now, there are going to be that same number of opinions, so people are going to disagree no matter what the topic. ------------------------------ Date: 12 Jul 00 15:27:02 PDT From: Susan Marie Subject: * RCA Radio Shack concert tape I have a copy of the Radio Shack tape. Maturity is not a matter of numbers, but a matter of mind. I know 4 year olds who are more mature than 50 year olds, just because of the hand life has dealt them. So be more specific next time you want to comment on the age of EDAs. If you read my post, you would see I do a lot of helping, more than most people. Not that I am bragging, it is just the truth. I am an EDA because I get a tremendous amount of self-worth by helping others. I have been active in my community since I was in 2nd grade, when I got my school to start doing the "Everybody Counts" program. Since then I have worked with terminally ill children, volunteered at Hospice, worked at the soup kitchen and provided free child care to single mothers in the less fortunate areas of town. I have worked with physically and mentally delayed persons in school and all over the country at camps. I have been an active participant in PARTNERS, a program for school age persons with disabilities sponsored by the Special Olympics. I think that being an EDA is something that I was long before Jewel came around. I love to give of myself to others, and the rewards you get from that are far greater than any amount of money I could earn in a lifetime. Hello People I am a UK EDA, therefore we dont see her on TV or hear her on the radio, so i dont know whats happening, but, guess what??? I dont care!!! "why?" you ask in your increasingly Jewel hungry way, because I'm a jewel fan, not a Jewel obsessive. I listen to her music, interviews, angel food; and i enjoy it. However If she weren't too produce anything again ever, yes i would be upset, but only because I feel she has so much more too show the world. I do feel though that if Miss Kilcher were too be retire half of this list would be more angry than supportive. So lets take this opportunity too stop asking innane questions like 'when will she release another album?' because lets face it, Jewel isnt gonna tink "oh no, so and so rform, wherever, wants another album, ooooh there u go!" However I do support the idea of releasing angelfood, as it would benefit those "EDA's" who do not have internet access (you dont need to be on this list too be an EDA) So all I ask is when you e-mail this list, what is it for? is it too benefit anyone? is it too enjoy what has already been produced? or is it too criticise someone for being 'lazy' when all they r dong is trying too enjoy a life they have built for themselves. Good bye friends, and those who will no doubt slate me for this e-mail! I try as hard as i can to deal with my stuff on my own time. I have spent many of my weekends, afterschool hours babysitting for free, helping out with local fundraising organizations. you get what you put in.. and people get what they deserve. i like to think that i at least make a small difference and people have made large differences in my life. its a cycle.. i just wanted to point out that not all teens or young people go out to cause trouble or to find someone to save them. i dont need to be saved. i dont want to be saved. i know. my friends know. and please refrain from stereotyping.
