I seriously opened up my email today and in the last two days over a third of the emails were about whether or not Jewel was lazy or whatever. If you want to disuss this, maybe you could discuss it privately, so those of us who are sick of hearing it don't have to. It gets old after hearing it every month for a year. Gina EastAggravatedAngel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Jul 2000 01:40:50 -0500 From: "Rich Long" Subject: * Here it Goes Here is my last ditch effort to everyone on this list. Most of you know me as the "T-Shirt EDA", you know, the guy that spent months and months of non-stop work to bring all of you the wonderful '99 EDA shirt. Here is my letter of concern that may be long in content, but short of everything I have to say. Some of you may read it some of you may not, some of you may feel the need to "bash" me whereas some of you may "compliment" me. I have been an EDA for years and I love the IDEA of the EDA's but I am not sure if most people here really understand what it means to be an EDA. Being a Jewel fan doesn't make you an EDA. Loving Jewel's music and her personality doens't make you an EDA. Admiring Jewel's thoughts and prospects does not make you an EDA. And having large amounts of Jewel Merchandise/Angelfood does not make you more of an EDA than anyone else. You become an EDA becuase of who YOU are. This list has become just a means of communication amoung people that have only one thing in common...liking Jewel. Every Day Angels help other people, every day. Helping someone is a high that you get. Whether you know it or not helping others brings joy to your life, when you communicate with someone you give them someone to talk to, when you work at your job you help others do things and that makes you an Every Day Angel. Every job in this world is organized around bringing things to other people in some sort of way, and making life better or just a bit easier for someone else is what we do. Are you an Every Day Angel?? of course you are... I never said you werent. I just want everyone to realize that this list is meant to bring us together, and not to tear us apart. There is too much argument on the list and too much "bashing" of someone elses' thoughts on this list. I have not posted to the list in about a year now just for the reason that I only get "hate" mail back from you people. I am sure I will still get some regarding this post, but I am not worried. But as I said before, this is a lat ditch effort for me. I want to see what the EDA's are made of and I want to see the good side to all of you. Just a question for the long time EDA's out there: Do you look forward to your "Jewel-News/Jewel-Digest" everyday? I dare not answer that question for you because I may be wrong but I know how I feel when I get my email everyday. I Love Jewel's music and her drive to make others happy and I have adopted her kindness by donating my time and effort to help others. THAT makes me an EDA, whether or not I belong to this list. All of us need to sit back, relax and think of something nice to say about each other. If you can, send an email to the list and tell us all why you are an EDA. Give us all something more positive to talk about. We don't need to critique every move Jewel makes and we don't need to know what she is doing at every moment, do we? I personally do not care wat Jewel is doing just as long as she is living her life the way she WANTS to live it at the moment. Becuase if you can't enjoy life then there really isnt a point in it. Sure we all have bad days sometimes, but its the good times that keep us going isn't it? I could very seriously make this post much much much longer than this becuase I have SO many topics on my mind but it is 2:30 in the morning and I am tired and loosing my train of thought so I will cut it off at this time. I hope most of you understand what I am trying to do and will help me out by making maybe just a few changes in our tiny group. I bid you all a farewell and wish you all luck with everything you do. Thanks for everything, Rich "Mizerie" Long ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Jul 2000 02:43:49 -0400 From: Benjamin Byer Subject: * last dance rodeo Last Dance Rodeo, in my opinion is a song about discovering the beauty of other human beings. Most of us though look at the beauty of objects and forget to look for fellow humans before it is too late and then in desperation try to make up for it (hence the bar seen where the protagonist is a ho). I think it is a similar theme to the song Satallite. That is just my take and I could totally be off base with this one :) Ben - the homeless angle ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Jul 2000 07:42:28 EDT From: "Devin Starr" Subject: venus/aphrodite song analysis *small* ok.. so lately.. lots of talk about greek gods.. and over and over inmy head the lyrics have been running "venus demilo in a half baked shell, understood the nature of love very well. She said, a good love is delicious, you can get enuf to soon, makesyou do crazy, you wanna swallow the moon." we have established venus (almost.. convroversy pending) *half baked shell* if an idea is half baked.. it generally means that its the begining of an idea.. maybe there is something more to love... to life. when you are in love, you cant get enuf too soon.. but there has to be more to love than addiction, and insanity. Venus/Aphrodite was mostly seen as a lust bunny god... not really a love god.. or at least that is how she is now discribed. And there definitely has to be more to a relationship than just lust. ( i have had those.. its a rush, but leaves you kind of empty inside) a relationship with just lust and no love isnt complete.. you could say it was half baked. Just my thoughts.. I think alot of it has to do w/ maturity. (I'm 31) alot of the EDA's or so called EDA's Are Not EDA's but could use an EDA in their life. It seems to me that most young adults are looking for help rather than seeing those in need and helping them. But most important they need to relize is they need to help themselves. No one ever said the road of life was easy. The young EDA's need to relize they need to be the difference that makes a difference. I think this situation reminds me of the Grateful dead scene in the early ninties where everybody wanted to be apart of the scene but had no clue of why "the scene" was so cool to begin with... It's all about the music, how it brings all of us from different walks of life to gether . Enjoying the magic of a good show or just to be humble making new friends w/ common interests. Normal things like relaxing.. Hello Jewelfans.... I guess we only have to see and wait what Jewel is up to. She is deserving a break but more information could be very very welcome about Jewel projects. Some 'lttile' concerts would be damn nice if they would be in Europe as well....when the new world tour will start when jewel finished her 4th record some day! about the book i believe the book will be readied for release soon, let's hope that waiting was worth it which i believe as a dedicated fan of Jewel.... I can understand that some people on the jewellist have some doubts about Jewel's current break off...Jewel has been working so much in the past that such a long time with less activities was not expected, and now we can't really handle this ...Jewel is just thinking about writing new songs and we will hear a lot of jewel hopefully soon with a new book coming etc... I really wish the eda list the best, and i reckon Alan and the jewelteam members will have plenty for ALL fans of Jewel...I sincerely hope that Jewel will think of other regions in the world as well such as Europe etc to come and give some concerts in the future when she finishes a new record. Because the concerts i personally experiencedin europe last year were just great and such memories to me and other european fans in that period So don't worry Jewelfans out there......it will be just fine in the end! Let's begin with the latest news: Jewel has completed her manuscript for her next book, "Chasing Down The Dawn." Now we're diligently working on final layout and the selection process for some great never-before-seen vintage photographs and original artwork by Jewel. Things are progressing nicely and we'll keep you informed as publishing information becomes finalized over the next few months. We also have some breaking news about a documentary that may be of interest to you. David Crosby, well known for his musical adventures with The Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, began an awareness-raising film and book project back in 1997 called "Stand And Be Counted." The focus of this project is to educate young people about social activism in music. Jewel was filmed for inclusion in this documentary and this footage will see the light of day on The Learning Channel next month. "Stand And Be Counted" will be broadcast in two parts on The Learning Channel on Tuesday, August 22nd and Wednesday, August 23rd. We don't have broadcast times yet, but we will be adding that information to the website calendar and in JeweLink with plenty of time to spare, so not to worry. We think many of you will find this documentary very interesting, so mark your calendars! I'd now like to turn you over to Chuck, manager of JMerch, who'll be dropping in from time to time with information for you. Take it away Chuck: ***************************** Hi, We at JMerch are excited to let you know about an upcoming opportunity for you to have access to specials and exclusive products that will only be available to JewelLink subscribers! These special offerings and discounts will not be available through Jewel's Official Website at www.jeweljk.com. Also, I'd like to invite anyone who has not visited JMerch at Jewel's Official Website to stop by and browse. As many of you already know, Ang Lee's highly acclaimed Civil War movie "Ride With The Devil," starring Jewel in the female lead as Sue Lee Shelly, will be available for DVD and VHS video rental in North American markets next Tuesday, July 18th. The DVD includes twenty minutes of additional footage cut from the "theatrical version." It also includes the trailer for the movie and a documentary about "The Making of RWTD" that will show behind-the-scenes footage. It's in letterbox format so you can enjoy "wide screen" viewing. You'll also find Jewel's video for "What's Simple Is True," a song featured on the movie soundtrack. If you'd enjoy owning an original copy of this, we'll be carrying the DVD. There's some confusion as to when the VHS format will be commercially released and available at retail pricing, but we'll keep you informed as we learn more about that. Chuck ***************************** Chuck will be back in future editions of JeweLink and will soon fill you in about exclusives for JeweLink members. Stay tuned! Wrapping up things today, we now continue with another answer to your recently submitted questions for Jewel's mom and manager Lenedra Carroll. Today, Lenedra responds to the following related questions: Neil Flanders asks: Jewel has inspired so many lives, especially mine. How has she affected your life and understanding of the human spirituality and soul? Amanda Vigurs from Queensland Australia asks: How does it make you feel when you are so loved and admired by your daughter who is also your best friend? My mother and I don't have that sort of relationship and I envy you greatly. Mandy Petzold did an excellent job of representing what many of you wanted to know by specifically asking: Out of all the great things your daughter, Jewel, has accomplished, what are you most proud of her for? Is it the singing, the book, the movie, or the humanitarian in her that you admire her most for? Lenedra replies: A number of the questions received were about the relationship between Jewel and me, so I will address some of these over the next several JeweLink communications. Mandy Petzold, for instance, asked which accomplishments (book, CD, movie, music, humanitarian focus) I am the most proud of and admire Jewel the most for. While I greatly respect and enjoy Jewel's artistic gift and prolific creative output, it is her commitment to personal growth that I admire most. She is committed to learning to evolve her behaviors and thoughts in ways that create more health within her and in all of her relationships. Jewel faces her fears and limitations with courage and determination. I have witnessed her passage through many hard-won personal transitions and I am in awe of her courage. Jewel possesses a breathtaking willingness to be honest, to self assess, to change, to correct and improve, to accept advice and wisdom and to develop her own wisdom and intuition. It is this willingness and the results of applying it, that makes her a human being that I can thoroughly delight in over a lifetime. -Lenedra ***************************** That wraps it up for today. Visit the jeweljk.com calendar page for continued daily event and TV scheduling updates and the website store for official Jewel merchandise. We'll include more of your questions and Lenedra's answers in the next edition. We hope you continue to enjoy JeweLink! Until next time, MrBB ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V5 #219 ***************************
