I don't think it's fair for you to say that you're getting really impatient and you're not going to be satisfied with just a book.. I know it was well-intentioned at core, because we all love hearing new Jewel music, but you really should be satisfied with the book. Her last CD was the end of last year, with a different CD and touring/promo for all the time leading up to that, and then looking back, endless touring and promo for YEARS before that one.. She of all people deserves the break, which isn't even really any time.. Average CD span is 2 years, not 6 months.. We've gotten two CD's in that span, plus what I'm sure will be a great book coming this fall.. She said she has her drawings and essays and various thoughts in their.. It's should be a great representation of her creativity.. Just be happy.. And get some angelfood.. "just a book"?? you know, i get really tired of seeing posts like this. how can y'all justify jewel "not doing anything"? Okay, she's not touring, she's not recording. But does she constantly have to do that? No. Her work consists of other things. She recently made several special performaces. There was Austin City Limits, Oxygen, Radio Shack, Earth to LA. She's working on her book... thats doing something. She's BEEN doing somethingS, in fact. Y'all need to keep in mind that POY and Spirit were about 4 years apart. Compared to that time frame, Spirit is brand spanking new! Do y'all want Jewel to get burned out? She needs some time off, a break from EVERYTHING. She should have a few months where she doesn't worry about touring, tv appearances, recording, publishing, and so forth. Wouldn't you like having time off? I'm sure you would. Jewel is a normal person, like you and me. She's not some superbreed.... I think its very unappreciative to be so demanding, and so impatient. I get so sick of hearing "when when when?!" from some people, who shall remain nameless. Why can't you appreciate what she's done and IS DOING and HAS DONE rather than fussing about wanting so desperately to hear a new album? see another tour? I can wait, and waiting makes it more worthwhile anyway. Hello to all EDA's especially South Florida EDA's. I moved down here about four years ago from New York. As luck would have it Jewel has had numerous appearances and shows in New York, where I grew up. As soon as I come to Florida it seemed like the appearance were more frequent up in New York. In that four years that I've been here I've had only one opportunity to see her perform or see her in general. If she had more than one appearance in that time and I wasn't on top of it then I kick myself in advance. Now the question is, with her next up coming events like her book will she be making a stop "ever again" down here, possibly for a reading or a book signing or a radio or T.V interview, something? If she doesn't then I just want everyone to know that I will be moving back to New York because this Jewelless state just isn't for me. I feel like it's impossible to someday just to someday say "thank you" to her in person, even if for one second. Another reason, briefly, why I wish she would come to So. FLA is that I'm an artist who has drawn and painted a lot of different people, but Jewel was my favorite. I have three drawings that I did of her and one actually won an award. I've written about this once or twice before so I'm sorry if I sound reduntant or conceded. Anyway I've actually had one or two celebrites sign the drawing or painting I did of them, but to have Jewel sign it would honestly be a dream come true. But being here in So. Fla just isn't helping that dream. Hopefully she could make a stop here some day soon especially for an autograph session. That would mean a lot to me. If there are any So. Fla EDA's I wouldn't mind hearing from you either. Thanks. Keith "I won't be held down, I won't be held back. I think everyone on this list realizes that Jewel should have released at least five or six albums by now. I'm fairly confident that I'll be a fan of hers for life, but I too am getting tired of her currently focusing on everything except music. She releases three albums and then decides that it's time to move on to other things? Hopefully when she gets all of her side projects out of her system, she'll start focusing on her music again. One can only hope that in her thirties, when the media is no longer interested and is still looking for the next Brittany or Christina, she'll find herself left only with her art and her fans. Jewel was merging probably the two most famous art works whose subject was the Greco-Roman goddess of love, Venus in Latin, Aphrodite in Greek. The "Venus de Milo" is a statue, actually of Aphrodite, discovered on the Greek island of Milos (or Milo). It is probably from the 1st century B.C.E. and is now in the Louvre in Paris (hence its French name). It's the one without arms. The "shell" is most likely refers to Botticelli's painting "The Birth of Venus", done for the Villa of Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de' Medici in about 1485, which has Venus standing in half a shell rising from the sea. She was reputedly born from the sea, or from the foam (aphros) of the sea. I cannot concur with this, 6 albums in 6 years? her schedule is grueling enough, and those who have followed on tour notice a drastic change in health whenever she puts herself through this, besides this her diversifying merely shows her pliability to artistic form, why build herself into a creative corner? It is so frustrating to see how demanding the fans of any celebrity can be, though it definitely shows the fervent attitudes and subsequent adorations may be admirable to the artist in being so loved, for all the private happiness one brings to so many on a public forum there is some deserving of a like private fufillment. People on one hand express discontent that the artist has lost thier roots, thier beauty in simplicity, and on the other demand a unrooted lifestyle, giving their all in travelling and finding no personal touch with which to remain grounded. It would be laughably ironic if it were not so detrimental to such said artists. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 21:22:17 EST From: "Robbie Moore" Subject: * re:What'sJewel doing Angels, Relax, don't worry about Jewel's seemingly lengthy lack of activity, when the time is right for her I'm sure she'll come out with another great album...or book....or film. I'm guessing that around two years of recording and constantly touring would wear anybody out...and if Jewel needs some time to recover then I don't think anyone should begrudge her for that. As for the problem some may have with the diversity of her pursuits, we should remember that she has not limited herself to just music. As she has said on many occasions, if she does too much of the one thing she can lose inspiration and interest. Even if you may not be a fan of her book or film, I think the time she takes to complete these helps keep her fresh for her music. So try and be a little understanding: if Jewel needs a rest after keeping most of her international and national fans happy, just let her. Rob 'the angel of Faith' ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 07:00:55 -0400 From: "Scott Evans" Subject: * Re: What's Jewel doing ? That was just plain rude.. Just because she reached her fame through her music and some (most) of us might like that aspect of her the best, she has every right to branch out and show her other facets to the world, no pun intended. Do you realize how many people don't even release three albums? And you're asking for five or six from an artist whose major career span, to the point of being where she is fame-wise, has only been three of four years? You're getting tired of her, tired of what she's doing, tired of her not focusing on her music, tired of her choices.. That's what I'm hearing from many EDA's, and it's really disappointing and frustrating.. You come to expect things from her.. Clearly she's making new music, great new music, and it will come in time.. But I think if she stopped right now, I'd be happy still with all the joy she has brought through to my life through her music, her words, her philosophies and outlooks on life.. She is 26 for goodness sakes.. Her life is still at a crossroads, and her fame has made it possible to explore many branches and enjoy life.. So to end off this tirless rant, I think anything that makes someone who has brought so much into my life and helped me so much a happy person should happen.. If it means 5 more years before another album, then so be it.. Don't be so selfish.. She's only human.. <> scott.evans [[crazy is just YOU and ME.
