Rather, I see nothing wrong with wanting a copy of the lyrics to your favourite song, it's like having poetry in your hands to go along with the music. What does appreciating jewel (both the written and the vocal word) have to do with being lazy? I mean , come on, it's not like people find the lyrics so they can sit there and commit the words to *memory* so that they get everything perfect when singing along. Who does that? =) Maybe you're happy replacing "kindness" with "money" in the song "hands" (re: your past post), but a lot of us aren't, and want a copy of the typed words when we're unsure about a line. I, personally, collect lyrics even if I know the lines by heart; it's just nice to have that hard copy of her words, is all. Doesn't mean someone who wants lyrics is uncreative or can't come up with their own verse to jewel's background music... It's not like we hunt down lyrics because we're lazy and incapable of creating certain lyrics for ourselves, as your post seems to suggest. Besides, hunting down lyrics is hardly for someone who's lazy... lyrics to stuff that's rare is pretty hard to find and takes time and patience for the internet =) Plus: Personally i think jewel did a *damn* good job creating lyrics, and I'd like to know what they are so that the meaning she intended for her song, gets across... I wouldn't want to butcher what she wrote, so sometimes it's just nice to get a copy of her words so the message is loud and clear. I mean, we don't all get lyrics to stand there at her concerts reading off of the sheets because we're too lazy to play the song until it's a part of our memory =p Just my two cents. If you're not a believer in astrology then disregard this post, however, i feel this is worthwhile to read. Many of you will be amazed. JEWEL's personality is mind-oriented. She understands and relates to the world around her and herself via the medium of thought and intellect. Memorization, comparison, analysis, and the verbalization of her mental imagery are her favorite activities. She seeks to extend her personality by a mental outreach to a multitude of new ideas and factors, becoming acquainted with an ever-increasing variety of facets of human nature. Thus, language and symbolic expression, written or oral, are her primary resources in life, although they are also potential pitfalls. Her eloquence, wit, and verve, her mastery of language, unquestionably give her power over other people (via communication) and things (science and technique). But taken to extremes, this faculty may lead to incoherent babbling. It is thus vital for JEWEL to find an outlet for her flow of verbal expression, she must explain, communicate, and speak. If it is dammed up, she will undoubtedly suffer. Her flow of words is the expression of her vital energy, the proof that she is alive and well. If she is forced to be silent, she would be cut off from the bonds that hold her together. A kind of duality or split personality might emerge... remember Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? " They " were a classic case. For all of the above reasons, JEWEL is naturally gregarious and sociable. She makes friends quickly and easily. Her contacts and networks are important to her, because they enable her to evolve; they are a source of self-fulfillment and identification. Any form of play is also important to her, and only severe depression will deprive her of her playfulness. Finding a partner for play within herself in many cases, she sometimes amuses herself by acting out a variety of roles on the stage of life, just for the fun of it. Her animation and wit give her a talent for improvisation and adaptation. However, adaptability is a two-bladed sword. She is liable to find herself in a superficial bind, having jettisoned certain important ideas in order to move about more freely. JEWEL is also sensitive, but her emotions and feelings are sometimes subject to the scrutiny and censorship of her intellect. Thus, she cannot free herself to the strength of great passions and energies without idealizing them to a certain degree and giving them intellectual resonance. Wary of her irrational instincts and urges, she tends to control or repress them. But she will have to learn that the intellect is not omnipotent, especially where instinct is concerned. Inhabiting a complex inner world, JEWEL sometimes feels vulnerable, due to her emotionalism and sensitivity to the aggressions of the outer world. Because she relies first and foremost on her adaptability and agility to wriggle out of trouble, she may, on certain occasions, make rather dubious compromises with herself - all the more likely if her moral fiber is made of wax, as is often the case, instead of steel. The weaknesses she must overcome are instability, wishy-washiness, a lack of determination and coherence in her thought. Warm and affable, JEWEL is animated by honesty and generosity. Due to the solar dominant of her birth chart, her father (or a man who served as a father figure, possibly a teacher) influenced her strongly and imprinted her with the positive values which are now at the core of her being. However, her perception and comprehension of the world are filtered through an innate ability for artistic discrimination: a sense of aesthetics. For her, " beauty " is " truth " - and not vice-versa. Style and harmony, and the skills involved with putting things on display, such as artistic representation, light, and transparence, are concepts which come naturally to her, and she makes use of them in her life. JEWEL thrives in the peace and security of the nest. Her husband and family will be an important part of her life. JEWEL has a sense of selfless duty and devotion. Work is one of the most important aspects of life for her. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jul 2000 08:34:23 EDT From: JewelK512@gateway.net Subject: * lazy edas and such I don't feel that we are lazy when we ask for lyrics. If you have an actual hard copy of a song in your hands... is it really so hard to figure out the song for yourself? Not really. I do it all the time. And its also rather annoying to always see "anyone have the lyrics" when the answer will most likely be "there's a huge list of lyrics of Gerrit's Jewel page. The person who I met over the internet told me about it. I have been talking to her via internet a couple days and while talking to her I explained to her my job and she said I should write to this address. I work with people with disabilities at my college I go to. It's just a part time job, but is has really given me a new perspective on life. I guess around the time I started this job is the time I really began to be a devoted Jewel fan. Her music and working with the people with disabilities have changed me for the better. Jewel's music have shown me so many things about myself that are in fact good. I am probably like most girls in the way I always obsess about my body, I have always thought I am too fat. Jewel's music has taught me to think way past that, and so has my job. When you're working with person who can't speak, talk or walk, it makes my worries about being fat seem insignificant and they are. It's really hard to explain how they're so similiar, just it makes me feel the same inside. I just think more now about how I am so blessed, and it's the little things that make it so. Jewel is a wonderful human being and so are the people I work with. They are so strong to overcome their disabilities and go to college, I am so proud of them. Jewel is similiar in the way she went through poverty to do what she loves. They are all inspirations to me and I aspire to be so strong. But somethign troubled me when you said you could just the "enjoy angelfood from angelfoodbank.org" or something of the like. What about the people who are NOT EDA's. I know, it's hard to imagine, us being so snobbish and all, I mean we ARE the only TRUE Jewel fans cause we get a bunch of letters jamming up our mailboxes everyday and we pass around tapes to eachother and smile and giggle at Jewel, so we can be the only TRUE Jewel fans. Right?? WRONG. There are a lot of people out there that would enjoy some of this material as well who don't even know this lists exsists. I wouldn't even had known it did if Annie (I love you!) hadn't told me, "Hey, I love Jewel, I'm an EDA blah blah blah." Also, what about the younger ones on the list? When I first joined and I told my mother that I wanted some complete stranger to send me a tape, she wasn't too hot about the idea. I don't care if it was for Jewel or the Pope or whoever, there is bound to be a parent or two, or many, who don't like the idea. What about those people. They are EDA's. They get mail in their boxes everyday like everyone else. I mean, come on. Lets be a little more selfish, shall we? "You know, a lot of people take Jewel completely the wrong way...(these songs)most probably be under appreciated just to give the hardcore fans one more thing to collect." Ok...so what if she's underappreciated? LOL...When has she not been? I don't really have an opinon as to if she does or doesn't, but I don't think the question should be "why?" it should be "why not?" It's just exposing people to her more aggresive and as the person in the post said "irreverent and versatile nature". She's gonna be misunderstood no mater what she does. She could say that she wanted to become a nun and people would say "OMG, did you hear that one unrealeased song, she's not holy enought to be a nun," or she could release these songs and people will say "OMG, she's such a poser, did you hear that song, that's not like her "usale" music," or she could keep doing what she's doing and people are gonna contiue to say "She's another hippie girl with a guitar." SO...sorry bout that rant (I'm not really, lol). Lata guys, Rachel *the only slightly lonely poetic angel* ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V5 #209 ***************************
