Yup - "Ride With the Devil" was released in Australian cinemas last Thursday (22nd June). It was a long wait, but we finally got it. Although, it seems as though the situation is the same as it was in the States - only a limited number of theatres are actually screening the movie. I live in Melbourne where it's playing in only a handful. Robbie (another ozEDA) and I had be counting down the days (and hours...and minutes....and sec - ok, you get the idea - we were excited) so we went along to the very first.....well.....second screening (the first was VERY "a.m.") in the city. It only opened in a couple of cinemas that day: Village Bourke St. and Hoyts Cinema Paris @ Chadstone. It's now also playing at Village's Cinema Europa at the Jam Factory and Westfield Soutland. According to members of the ozEDA list it's also open in Sydney and Perth, where Jess Hennah informed us it was playing at Greater Union Innaloo and Paridiso in Northbridge (thanx Jess)! I don't know about anywhere else... I definitely suggest that any Aussie EDAs who can see it, do so. I really enjoyed the movie - and not just because Jewel was in it (although that did play a rather large part). This is from yesterday's paper, a caption under a picture of Jewel from the movie: "Singer Jewel glistens in the otherwise grim American Civil War tale of Ride With the Devil." And then in the small review below, simply "....and Jewel in an impressive acting debut." OK, that's about all from me... I first want to preface this by stating that I am not a religious man. I have always said I am not sure if I believe. I am writing this to all of you in hopes that I am 100% wrong, and that our prayers can and will help. So if others of you are out there that are like me and not sure of your beliefs, or even are sure and do not believe, please join me none-the-less to help someone who needs us. Just a few days ago, while chatting with a longtime, yet quite young member of the Jewel/EDA list, I found out that she is possibly facing a battle against cancer. She will find out for certain this weekend when test results are revealed. Respecting her privacy is of the utmost importance to me, so I will not say who it is, of course. However, as I said before, I hope that I am wrong in my unsure religious beliefs, and that we can do our part and help and pray that all works out fine for her. Although she has not been too active on the list in recent times, she certainly used to be quite so. Thus many of you may "know" her via posts to the list (the last time we discussed this, she had only actually met a small handful of fellow list members). While I know sometimes it is hard for people to pray for someone when they do not know who they are praying for, I know you all can do it. So please, join me in praying and/or hoping for the absolute best for our longtime friend. RSs have by their entrances. It has a picture of Jewel wearing black on the right side with an advertisement for her RS concert on the left. I'm thinking these things are very rare, since it's the only one I've seen. Has anyone else seen one of these? They're about 2 feet wide and 5 feet tall.
