There are a lot of Rugburns songs around; they have three albums (_Morning Wood_, _Mommy I'm Sorry_ and _Taking The World By Donkey_). Steve has tons of unrecorded material which has been captured by fans and is traded around. (Steve is cool with concert taping.) Check out stevepoltz.com for a few songs. "You don't know the way I feel about you" -- Emm Gryner, "Summerlong" List Moderator Note: newer subscribers to this list may not realize this, but Steve Poltz is an integral part of Jewel music, both creatively and in performance. He took Jewel under his wing when she was just starting, has co-written many of her songs (including You Were Meant For Me) and has toured with her as an opening act (solo and with his former band, The Rugburns) and a member of Jewel's band on the recent Spirit tour. Posts about Steve, while in most cases are NJC (No Jewel Content), from this point on will be allowed, as long as they are about his music and/or his professional relationship with Jewel, and as long as it does not get out of hand. - Mike ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Jun 2000 22:56:35 -0400 From: "cymbaline" Subject: * Re: help finding website The site mentioned was/is an earthlink site. Mike changed servers, and w/ the deleting of his earthlink account, automatically came with the deleting of his earthlink site. He WAS going to start a new site at geocities, but he never got around to it. And seeing that he unsubscribed from all the jewel lists he was on, even giving up his ownership rights to EODA, and freeing himself from the cyber world of Jewel, there won't be another "Mike Carmona's Big Bad Jewel Site". Its ancient history. Wow, some great posts lately, it's starting to feel all cozy :-) ! I've been inspired to come out of serious lurk mode! I think the last time I posted was after the Las Vegas New Year's show back in 97/98!! Anyone remember me? Anyone remember me trying (with no success, believe it or not) to give away an 11th row ticket to see Jewel? Arrgg. Bad memories, let's move on! First off, hi to those EDAs I've met way back when (I hope you're all still on the list!): Jason (great seeing you at Tara MacLean at Joe's a couple months back!), Mary, Tegan, Shelly, Amber (are you still living in Vegas, ickk :-) ?), Duff, Angela (BudGoddess, are you out there???), hmmm, there must be more, well hi anyway to everyone!! I really don't have much of any importance to share, but I thought in the spririt of growing our little town, I'd share some of my recent hopes/dreams/disappointments/joys. Maybe some of you angels can relate, maybe I'll find some new friends, maybe I'll start a huge fight on the list that goes on for weeks (just kidding, hehehe!), or maybe I'll just use up some bandwidth on the Internet! Anway, here's my story: It's weird, my life as it is right now really started to take shape that New Year's in Vegas. After being touched by our Jewel as ususal (despite a horrible, horrible croud, icckk!!), I got to travel through desert down to San Diego, taking pictures all along the way. Six months later those same pictures became my first solo photography exibit. It was the highest day of my life! It had been a dream of mine for a long time, and it totally came true! It was one of those moments when everything in life becomes clear, and I felt like I found myself, and the world seemed full of endless possiblilities (yeah, sappy, but still true!). At the time I was working for a big Fortune 25 company as a computer engineer. How I ended up there is another story entirely. Let's just say I was pretty miserable for three years. So, anyway, I do this gallery show, I find my calling, but for various reasons, I felt stuck at my job, breathing recycled cubicle air 9 hours a day. Well, last November, I really thought my soul was going to completely die, I had lost all my passion, that love in my heart, ya know? So, I quit! Heheheh! I took five months off to figure out where I was going in this incredibly short life. Now, I think I've found some direction, a path hopefully to some fulfillment or something. I'm working on openning an art gallery here in Detroit. Any angels out there from Southeast Michigan? I'd love to meet you sometime. In case the rest of you don't know, Detroit was a city ready to die. There are great signs that it might make a huge come-back, and I might get to be a part of that! Has anyone out there ever ventured out on a huge undertaking like this? I'd love some support, it's very scary writing up business plans that include things like $2 million loans! But, man, the chance to contribute to the rebirth of an entire city! It keeps me going. I have a temporary job right now doing writing and graphic design for another big company. It puts food on the table, ya know? But, while I'm sitting at the office, I'm filled with hopes and dreams, instead of complete despare. Life is so hard when you don't have dreams to work toward. And I guess that's my whole point in writing this. I'd love to hear some of your dreams, have they come true, are you frustrated at how hard it can be? Lately I've felt a little alone in the journey, it'd be nice to know there are angels out there who continue to dream and reach even after getting beaten down by the heartless time and time again. On kind of a related note, for any Detroit EDAs, if you have a chance, I'd love for you to check out my friend Keri Noble, she's a singer-songwriter here, and I think her art is absolutely beautiful. She's trying to live out her dreams too, and she's always been a huge inspiration for me! You can check out her website (which she so kindly let me create for her :-) ) at: http://www.kerinoble.com Maybe we could do a Michigan EDA gathering to one of her shows? Let me know. I'd love to get to know some of you! Well that's all, sorry if I wasted anyone's time with such a long post. But, every town needs a long-winded storyteller that just won't shut up!
