I say, why worry about something so trivial as Jewel's birthday, when you can go out and help a friend celebrate a birthday, or volunteer in a soup kitchen, or help an elderly person buy groceries, or comfort somebody, or tutor/read with a child, or do something USEFUL other than worrying about a celebrity's birthday! Go out and DO SOMETHING USEFUL and BENEFICIAL to humanity!!! That would be better than worrying about giving a millionaire another present, and would also make you feel productive. How 'bout it? I'll bet Jewel would probably prefer you did something like that too, whether it was recognized or a not highly-publicized act of kindness...PRACTICE RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS rather than fussing about a celeb's BDAY ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 09 May 2000 04:31:38 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: * Re: c'mon people (About Jewel's birthday & presents to her) Amy Emerman wrote: >Someone wrote: >>Hi.. BINGO! ....and guess what?....Jewel DOES feel the same way. :-) Back in July 1996 when we were organizing JewelStock, and MrBB was just a regular ol' list member like the rest of us, the lists' main contact with Jewel's management was a gal that worked for Lenedra and often posted news about Jewel here under the name of Hiranya. MANY EDAs were writing in to me asking if they could give a gift to Jewel at JewelStock. I posed that question to Hiranya, and this was her exact response, word-for-word: >Gifts: Lenedra doesnt remember the conversation about gift >limiting but here are Jewel's current thoughts on it. Jewel >is given a lot of gifts which she enjoys and appreciates. >However she wonders sometimes about gift giving to >celebrities. "Stars" are given so many gifts, freebies, favors >etc and they are sometimes the people who least need it. She >doesnt want to ask people to quit giving things to her because >she knows it also brings them pleasure, but she would like to >ask people to notice others who need gifts (time, compliments, >hugs, kindness, friendship, flowers etc) and sometimes give >to them instead, ore also, or on her behalf. She would love >letters that said "to thank you for your music I gave x person >xxxx....." It would really be a wonderful gift to her to have >fans begin really taking care of each other. Since this list is >WAY ahead on this count it wont be hard for us! --- Hiranya I think that sums it up rather well, and I am 100% certain it's still a good rule-of-thumb to follow :-) Mike :-) * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand, * or have a burning question about Jewel and/or the list, * The Jewel/EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.quackquack.net/jewel * Many basic/common Jewel and list questions can be answered there :-) * * Need some Angelfood? Besides what's Jewel going to do with an extra gift. There are so many others out there that would need your kindness more than her. And she would probably appreciate it. - ----- Original Message ----- From: Amy Emerman To: Sent: Tuesday, May 09, 2000 1:21 AM Subject: * c'mon people > Someone wrote: > "Hi.. I generate techno music as a hobby, I've got some high quality mixing/tracking/encoding MIDI equipment and software. Allot of the traffic on this list seems to be from artists who were inspired by jewel. If you all would like to send me tracks which were strongly influenced by jewel I can probably burn them to an audio CD which you (EDA) could send to her. Their influence should probably be more message oriented that style oriented. IIRC jewel has said one of her main goals into influence people with her messages. A musical reflection of that influence should make an excellent present. I'm swamped with work right now and so I just don't have time this year, but I'd be happy to do it for next. - VAB - --- V.
