It could happen if we all help. I'm on an Alanis list & we're all requesting "Ironic" on her b-day, June 1. So, we should all request one of Jewel's videos on May 23. It would be cool. I suggest "Jupiter" b/c it's a cool song that was so underrated, but any would be good. What do ya think? Also, let any other Jewel fans on other lists you might be on know. It could happen. As I am sure most of you know, there has been a lot of discussion on the list lately about creating a place for EDAs to share their works with others. Well, I think I can help out with this idea. This is a long post, but if you're an EDA with a talent in the arts or have a drive to improve the world in which we live, please read on… _______________________________________________________________________ I've been a fan of Jewel since POY first hit the record store shelves. I've always enjoyed her music and have found both her and her music to be a great source of much inspiration. As I'm sure most of you do as well. This feeling grew even stronger with the release of her 2nd album, Spirit. I was touched by a number of these songs, particularly, Absence of Fear and Deep Water. Something in this album moved me like never before. I finally realized the power that music can have on one's soul. Jewel's music and actions through Higher Ground for Humanity had caused my once apathetic soul to become motivated to try and improve the world in which we live. Looking around me I saw a great level of this former apathy in my fellow "Gen-Xer's". This motivated me to take a long look at my own life and realize hoping for a better world wasn't going to do any good. If I wanted change, I had better do something about it. I sat down with two of my friends and had several long discussions about how to do something about this level of apathy and general lack of compassion for ones' fellow man. We discussed what had inspired us and agreed that the arts are a powerful medium in which to carry a message. I have always enjoyed films and music and feel these are very powerful mediums. My friends felt the same and suggested that literature and the visual arts also hold great enlightenment for people. On this note, we decided to create a forum in which like-minded individuals skilled in the arts and who shared the same passion for compassion and positive change could share their works of inspiration. Thus Deep Water Studios was born. Deep Water Studios is an independent website designed to provide distribution to those who otherwise would not have a chance to publicly display their works. We would eventually like to branch out into the mainstream media for distribution, but for now are concentrating on the Internet. We welcome all forms of the arts to submit their works for a chance to be posted on the website. Since we are a new website, we need content to help make us a success. Thus when the discussion on the list turned to a creating a place for the EDAs to display their works, I knew the timing was perfect. Many of you have been inspired by Jewel, just like myself. It's been proven time and time again on the list. Perhaps it resulted in a poem, a song, or a drawing. Or maybe it manifested itself to pledge your time to a marathon to help cure cancer or help out with a food drive for the homeless. Either way, the drive is there, and now is you chance to do something about it. Now I'm not guaranteeing every EDA who submits their work will be accepted. Deep Water is not intended to become an EDA-only forum. It is open to all who submit their works. I know that there are a lot of gifted people on this list and that this would be a good place to start looking for talent to launch our website. So please, even if you don't have a work to submit, please stop by the site and take a look.
