Last Sept. I got a letter from JMerch inquiring if I was interested in being part of something new that the fans could be part of. I wanted to be part of it, so they sent me an application for general info. and I wrote to them a little about myself and sent it back. In Jan. I got a letter telling me I got accepted onto the Fan Advisory Council. Unfortunately, nobody could tell me what duties I accepted to do. After almost 2 months of impatiently waiting, our first meeting happened in late Feb. of this year. The 8 of us that showed up clicked together and became friends. Our next meeting it probably going to happen next month sometime. There were many more applicants that could still have a position if one of us decided to leave. I cannot say if there are going to be be regional groups in other areas of the States the future. >do you have meetings with jewel?? No matter how much of an off day you're having, being rude to people that you should be thanking is impolite. At the UK london gig she told one fan to fuck off when they told her that she was great, and at the warwick gig steve and all the others stood around in the cold for ages signing autographs where as jewel just waltzed past everybody and sat on the tourbus, refusing to even wave at anybody. I've always noticed that on american TV shows she makes *so* much more effort. To try to compare myself to her a little bit is the only way I can find an excuse for her "arrogance". Everyone read the article in the newspaper about me. I live in a town with less than 12,000 people. And I was excited. I was proud, and I was embarrassed. I mean... everyone read this article and everyone was happy for me, everyone came up to me... and honestly I feel bad for how I must have cheated them out of an explanation or so much as a "thank you" when they praised me. I work in a grocery store, one of the only 2 in town... The entire town shops there, as well as neighboring towns... so in the past week, I've probably come across 200 people saying. "don't I know you? Oh... you're the girl in the newspaper! oh my gosh! I'm so excited for you... la la la" and I don't know what to say to them. I honestly don't. It's not that I don't like what they are saying, and I'm certainly not trying to be rude. but it is overwhelming when so many people want to say so much to you. So I kinda just smiled, and went on with my work. I think it's wonderful that all of these people are happy for me... and I've gotten a few kids, younger kids, who want to start writing... and keep asking me how. I don't know what to say, so again, i just keep to myself, and smile. It's not me being rude... I suppose I'm being shy. Nothing ever happens in this town which is why, i believe, that I'm getting so much attention. I'm one of the quietest people in my class... And people brush that off as me being snobby. and that hurts. And for people to brush Jewel off as being "arrogant" then let them think for themselves. Sure, Jewel is no angel... the EDA's are probably Oxy-morons every once in a while. I'm sorry for your bad experiences with Jewel... she's only human... and she isn't going to reschedule a show for any of those reasons. I'm not going to stop writing poetry for these reasons either.
