Dear Angels, I was reading a mag. forgot which one.. i think its one of those BB mags. but they called our jewel..."her music is getting old and we havent heard from her in a wile..shes just becoming and old classic....she needs to get a new career" Oh my GOD was i pissed off! How could they say that? Thats it i think im gonna go on a killing spree...j/k. BUt i mean i dont think shes getting onl and i am not even close to getting tired of her music!!!! I mean a lot of Jewel's songs talk about sex or hint them in some way...Morning Song, Cold Song, God's Gift to Women....just to name a few. And if you think about it, Morning Song was on Pieces of You that was recorded in 93-94 when Jewel was 19-20, God's Gift to Women was on Save the Linoleum, and Cold Song was on Phyliss Barnabee Finally Gets a Bra, all early albums. As well, Jewel is practically having sex in the video for What's Simple is True. I don't think Jewel has that whole innocent vibe going...i think she has a hidden little wild side that is awesome, and makes her even greater than she already is. I think that its great that she has this sweet innocent persona, that has a little wildness in it once in a while. It makes her more of a dynamic person. Hope this doesn't start another EDA quarrel, but i had to say it. Ill go back into hiding now! *the mystic angel* Jordana "I'd rather see the world from another angle."-Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Mar 2000 23:21:37 EST From: TICAL061@aol.com Subject: * wantaugh hi, does anyone have the show that jewel did in wantaugh(jones beach) on july 24, 1999, i was there....6th row, and it was a great show...if u were there....or have that concert....get back to me, thanks alot ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Mar 2000 23:29:45 EST From: Sean35RL@aol.com Subject: * Playboy, just a shirt? Now, yes, in some ways a shirt is just a shirt is just a shirt. But in some ways it is an eerily ignorant statement(not that it would be Jewel's first) to plaster a logo signifying the objectification of women on your chest. Maybe it was done as a joke, maybe she got paid a lot of money to don it, who knows. Still, someone who alleges to be as intelligent as Jewel should know better. I mean, why use your status as a successful female musician to promote the cause of a mysogynistic piece of pornography (although I think Playboy is relatively harmless myself and that all pornography should be legal and that to be a feminist is to be pro-choice on all issues, including the choice of women to appear naked in Playboy) when she could be a wearing a Rock For Choice logo, or a RAINN(Rape and Incest Awareness Network) logo, or something promoting one of her environmental causes? Even the aforementioned "Rodeo Whore" shirt is a big difference. It's obviously a joke and is rather subversive. Sponsoring a Playboy logo on your (ample, though naturally so as opposed to those inside the magazine who have slashed open their bodies and implanted foreign matter in them all for a couple of bucks to become Literally objectified) chest, however, is not subversive, it's simply bad judgment. Should Jewel be crucified for this? No, of course not. But she should be criticized, something her fans should be willing to do. Being a fan doesn't mean that you don't criticize, if anything it should mean that you are the most attentive and knowledgeable critic. Jewel shouldn't be wearing these things where she can be seen, people look up to her for heavens sake. She is not living up to the standereds of being a good role modle. Those of us who want to try in our daily lives to walk amongst our fellows in humanity and have a positive, nuturing, even uplifting effect on our communities (local as well as global). To foster basic human consideration and respect not only in ourselves, but in others as well by our example. To improve the living conditions (spiritual as well as physical), environs, and situations of those we come into contact with in the course of our daily lives. It was for these reasons that a visionary group of EDA's came together and worked hard to form the EveryDay Angels Foundation. A non-profit corporation, the Foundation is "our" vehicle to promoting and effecting real change through the the efforts, talents, and compassion of our EveryDay Angels Community. I invite you to tour the EDAF site (in light of this topic) and visit our page on EveryDay Consideration at: http://www.edaf.org/consider.html . When you are done there, please feel free to browse about the website. If you find our goals and mission are something that resonates with you, please consider becoming a member and find out what it is that EDA's like you are hard at work doing to preserve the ideals and implications of what we feel is implied by our moniker of EveryDay Angels. Feel free to send me any questions or thoughts you have at edaf_west@yahoo.com or use the contact info provided on the website. We are doing some incredible things and with your help we can only become stronger. Thanks for your time. I'm writing this letter in behalf that Jewel realizes her work as a musician has made a great deal in my life. Never mind it help me get through the rough times in High School, with the peer pressure `en junk, But now I've felt her sorrow, I was that girl living in a car. My mother and I got into a fight last month she came home under the influence of alcohol and Well we got in to a push shove yell or what ever the hell came out match. I had to get out I couldn't live like that anymore. So I went to a hotel just for 2 days, then realized oh no now where do I go! All my money, nothing left but 13 dollars. I held my head up high and thought to myself If ya keep the faith everything will fall into place! I would have never though of faith at a time like that if it was for Jewel. She makes you Believe in yourself and makes you have the faith u need to get through this cruel and harsh world. she lets u know how to deal with yourself in uncontrollable situations. I was unfortunately in my car for 3 weeks, I wish I live in Cali let me tell u winter in Mass gets quite chilly. I almost left all of this that I love in Mass to go to Cali just cuz it was warm but my heart would still be cold. So I decided to stay. But I just want Jewel to know once again she's come through for someone she has no clue even exists. I'm back at home, Mom and I are getting along okay for now but its only been a few days so lets cross our fingers. I'd just like to say once again JEWEL SAVED MY SOUL AGAIN !!!!!!! I don't want to think of where I'd be right now if I didn't have this faith that u gave me. You've shown me things are possible, you've shown me things can happen if your willing for them to You've given myself~confidence back, better than I ever had it... I tell ya jewel's GOTTA BE MY ANGEL STANDING BY ... Jewel you'll always be in my heart! you like that big sister I always want !! thanks forever ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Mar 2000 11:38:45 EST From: jewelchute@aol.com Subject: * enjoying jewel...even if she was butt naked hey guys, sometimes I really wonder why I am even on this list. I really think sometimes people take things waaaay too seriously. The thing about jewel (at least for me) is that she does things that WE DON't ALWAYS EXPECT. the media recently has been like, WOAH! look at Jewel, huh..i never knew she had a sexuality. funny.... WAKE UP! she's a woman, a beautiful woman, with a well-endowed body and a constant rotation in her hips. not to make her sound slutty by any means. I am in fact suggesting the opposite. Jewel is, and for as long as I've seen and heard her, very comfortable with her body and her sexuality. She's always moving on stage ...she often wears leather...tight clothes...SO WHAT! I feel like half the time, on this list, people have to jump in and defend jewel. Im not saying that we have to agree with everything she does and says and wears, but sometimes these discussions get out of hand. I know by writing this I am just adding flame to the fire perhaps...but I am just annoyed. - -lindsey ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Mar 2000 10:13:41 -0500 From: "Alex MacPhee" Subject: * RE: Playboy shirt >can you tell me the date of the entertainment weekly that shows Jewel >wearing the playboy bunny t-shirt. I can add "Grey Matter" to the list. The 2nd verse ("Inside my skin..."). talks of sexuality. We treat Jewel as if she were a god. She's human... we all are. Just because she may "save our souls" she's no angel. She just sings like one. Anyone here ever hear of Dido? She kicks major ass! And I'd like to share some quoetes from her song "No Angel"... I think it can pertain to Jewel right now. "I know I'm not perfect, but I can smile. And I hope that you can see my heart behind my tired eyes." "I'm no angel but does that mean I can't live my life?" Jewel has a good heart. Thats all that matters. I don't think we should critisize every little thing. Just let her live her life. I don't think its up to us to approve/disapprove of what she does. Its her life. Oh, amd some quotes from Dido's "My Life": "what I choose to do is of no concern to you, and your friends....'cause it's me, and my life. It's my life." Is that the one Jewel bought? If so...I know her taste!
