But when all the webdesigners take this policy on to their website than i think it will for 80% text based homepages for Jewel as you hardly are allowed to make photos during concerts, and if you have them than you are a lucky person. On my site for example i have put some of my 1999 concert tour photos when Jewel was in Europe without this illustrations don't i think the site is less worth to surf to. So i don't think Jeweljk site is the only site having trouble with photos placed on their sites, i think it's just generally accepted that persons who see some nice photos on a side that they will use it for their own site. I think i did the same who didn't used a photo which he or she liked when making a website ? As a loyal gesture to Jeweljk did i remove the Jeweljk photos from my site. I think it's also better that now the Jeweljk photos have the special Jewel logo on the images so that placement on websites is more difficult than in the past. Although she utilized the "Break me, take me, let me feel your arms..." line from that "only once played 1997 song" that I mentioned previously, this new acoustic song bears little resemblance to that heavy electric tune otherwise. I stand corrected. ;-) Alan PS. Only 4 days left & others are gaining on Jewel, so please keep up your collective efforts with Celebrity Smooch! We're almost there! So basically, I am asking each and every one of you who has not yet replied to Bretts' survey, to please do so when I resend his post a few minutes after I send this one. If you have already replied to this survey, please do not reply again. It's that time of year again! That's right, I'm doing the age/locale survey for the entire EDA list. So, if you would be so kind as to e-mail me your age and your state (if in the USA) or country (if outside the USA), it will go towards the final results of this survey. We had a HUGE turnout last year, and I hope for the same. And don't worry. All the information you send is strictly CONFIDENTIAL. No one will know who is how old or where they are from. REMEMBER to include BOTH: 1) your age 2) your location (state for US, country for outside US) If there is more than one EDA in your household, feel free to e-mail me all the ages and the location in one e-mail. The results will be posted in about two weeks. Hope you all enjoy this again. I'll just brace myself for the 200+ e-mails coming tomorrow :-). Thanks. Pop star Jewel said she didn't mind taking time away from the massive crowds and grueling reporters to sing and talk to a small group of Terrace Hills Middle School students. Especially since she was able to do it from her Los Angeles hotel room two minutes after waking up. Thirty advanced language arts students got to speak with the Grammy winner via a telephone conference Thursday morning at their school library. The teens couldn't see Jewel, but students said talking to the star and hearing her voice sing a few notes was enough for them. List Moderator Note - the author of this article is wrong. Jewel has never won a Grammy award. "you didn't get to actually see her and shake her hand and see if she was in her pajamas," said eight-grader Nikki Vonweller, "But I'm still gonna tell my mom I got to meet her. We got to talk to her. That's more than most people got to do." The phone visit was actually a prize for eight-grader Josh Campbell, whose poem was selected by Jewel from 6,000 others that were entered in a nationwide contest sponsored by Scholastic Book Clubs. The club publishes various reading materials for young people such as Scholastic Magazine. Students in teacher Jared Boyett's class typically write letters every Friday to musicians, politicians and community members, Boyett said. In November, they had the option of writing poems to Jewel. About 10 students participated in the contest and Josh was the lucky winner, he said. "i like writing," said Josh, who admits he is not a huge Jewel fan. "It is a way for me to express my emotions." Jewel shares the teen's passion and said that is why she got involved in the contest. The musician is also a poet who recently released "a night without armor," a compilation of her own poems designed for young readers. Each of the Terrace Hills students in Boyett's class got a signed copy of the book, as well as a copy of Jewel's latest CD, "Spirit." Jewel said she also likes to talk to young people in hopes of inspiring them to express themselves though words. "Writing has always helped me keep track of myself and keep track of how I am feeling," said Jewel, whose last name is Kilcher. "I love to see kids writing. It gives you a compass inside of you that helps you navigate." Jewel said she needed that direction growing up. The 25-year-old started writing and performing at age 6 with her parents for locals and tourists in Alaska. It was in anchorage that Jewel learned to master yodeling, a skill many of her fans admire. But some tough times hit the youngster. Her parents divorced when she was about 8 years old. She said writing gave her comfort until things started looking up. In 1995, Jewel released her first album, "Pieces of You" and was named Best New Artist by American Music. "Spirit," her second album, debuted in 1998 and sold more than 11 million copies. Jewel said "Spirit" inspires inner strength and self-determination and send the message that it is OK to be who you are in a world where being thin and pretty is often No. 1. She shared that message with terrace Hills teens "I'm pretty scruffy sometimes," Jewel told the students. "I don't always brush my hair when i walk out of a room and I'm not perfectly behaved. I don't know one person who is." ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2000 22:52:38 +0100 From: wigglytooth@gmx.de Subject: * Jewel Quiz - 30 questions (this is the 2nd anouncement for the Jewel-Quiz here - so far thanks to nearly 50 people who have taken part) Hello Angels, if you want to test your knowlege about Jewel you may want to enter the Jewel-Quiz on my website http://listen.to/jewelk There you will find 30 questions about Jewel - simply answer them, send in the solutions and the you will enter the highscore table - so you can see how good you are in comparison to other Jewel fans all over the world. go to: http://listen.to/jewelk and click on quiz Thanks for reading! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2000 22:26:15 +0100 From: "michiel - jewelfan - van gorkum" Subject: * Jewel angelfood : Time for a new tape for eda's?? That's the first line of a song called "Crazy". (Not to be confused with the classic Willie Nelson penned, Patsy Cline tune of the same name.) It's one of the first songs Jewel wrote while still in high school. She played it all the time in the InnerChange era but it disappeared from setlists around mid 1995. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. Anyone with JMerch correspondance, should now easily get through to customerservice@jeweljk.com. If you experience a problem emailing that address, please let me know & I'll help you. It should be fine though. Also, (and I'm sure everyone will be happy to hear this) the Austin City Limits program with Jewel will be a full hour devoted to Jewel, NOT half an hour as someone reported. And yes, it will contain NEW songs. We added a new headline item about it at jeweljk.com. I found out the broadcast date, as well, & that info is included both there & on the daily calendar update. Jewel also taped some new songs on Candice Bergen's new Oxygen Network show "Exhale" on Wednesday. This will likely be broadcast in March sometime. Check the calendar periodically. As soon as I know, the broadcast time will added for your convenience. Have a great weekend! Alan PS.
