Yes, she's an inspiration to Jewel, and we admire her, but come on. Do we really need to do something for her? She's not the reason we're on this list. She's just a regular person, like you, like me, and like Jewel. They're just normal people, doing what they love. We don't need to put them on a pedestal. And that whole elopement thing? Who cares? Does it really matter if Jewel eloped? It's her life, not ours. She makes decisions because they're right for her, not us. I'd like to think that this list is not full of obsessed fans, just ardent admirerers, but sometimes I wonder. Let's start living our lives, not worrying about Jewel and her every move. Please don't get angry or think I'm criticizing, sometimes we just need a wake-up call. We can love Jewel's music without losing ourselves. Just something to think about. - -Kerri my homepage: We Are EveryDay Angels check out my angelfood page, there's a link from my main page "But don't wander too far, My one constant star, Darkness exists, except where you are, My feet are filled with wandering, They follow your own, 'Cause everywhere you are feels like home." -Jewel, Last Dance Rodeo ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Feb 2000 21:45:49 -0800 From: Paul Schreiber Subject: * Re: Kinda funny old news for newbies I wrote: >Jewel came out during Steve's set, drank some of his wine and joined him >for a song. And I wanted to let all of you know some stuff about me before you heard my idea. Well... here it is. On Sat., Feb. 12th, in Cincinnati, some EDAs would get together to do some volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity or the Over-the-Rhine Housing Network, followed by a FREE viewing of RWTD (completely legal I assure you), and topped off with a possible Poetry Session and/or Bible study for those interested. Now here are some specifics. First of all, all of this is arbitrary, but I decided on Cincinnati because that is the closest "Metropolis" to this little burg I call Oxford Ohio. And a lot of students from this campus go to Cincinnati on weekends to do projects like this. The groups I have suggested are just that... suggestions and I am open to other suggestions, but I think a philanthropic effort is a good place to begin the day. Now for the FREE "Ride With the Devil Viewing". I ask for some respect for my privacy so please don't give me individual e-mails asking for this, but I have a tape of the movie that a friend of mine has because a family member is part of "The Academy. So that is why this is possible. It is totally legal, I have permission, and of course I would not ask for any recompense. In accord with this gracious offer by my friend, I ask again that nobody abuses this offer by sending me individual requests, because they can not be granted. Sorry, but this has to be a ONE TIME offer. However, as I said, the date MAY be moved to the following weekend. I have reserved a multimedia room (with a big screen and VCR projector) at Miami University, so that is my only tie, and that date could be moved. The Poetry Session is an after the fact idea that I thought would work in well following the movie, as would a possible AngelFood swap-meet or something. There would of course be freedom to just "hang" with the new relationships that will be sparked if this is as successful as I have been praying for it to be. This brings me to my next point - the Bible Study. This is my offering to anyone interested, because I know from experience that it is hard to get fellowship out there in the "real world" (outside of campus). As I am reminded every time I go home for a break or Summer. This Bible Study is in no way being pressured upon anyone who attends, I am just offering it to those who show interest; if no one is interested, then I won't have one. OF course this is open to anybody who is willing to drive to Cincinnati, or at least Oxford. I am not looking for "persuaded" labor... if you can't make the Cincinnati part of the day, that's OK. Just join in on the FUN in Oxford. So please post, or e-mail, me if interested and I will be happy to answer any questions. By the way Oxford OH is North of Cincinnati by about an hour and about 15 mins. from the Indiana border. Jack Schiller 12 A N. I really don't mean to start a whole big debate thing with this, b/c God knows they really annoy me, but I thought I'd reply to this post. Obviously Jewel does drink alcohol, because Paul saw her do it. But, I too have come across the 'rumour' about Jewel's non-drinking. Although, I don't think it can be classified as a rumour when she is directly quoted as saying, "I don't touch alcohol." Perhaps she meant in an overconsumption kind of way seeing as though the next part of the quote was, "I am drunk on life." So, maybe she just meant she doesn't get drunk? Also, doesn't she have a historty of kidney problems? In the book 'Jewel, Pieces of a Dream' it talks of her kidney infections and the fact that she doesn't drink. Perhaps she has just changed her lifestyle since this quote and stuff. I just thought I'd write in and support Meredith in her confusion. I'm sure many other angels thought the same thing when they read the original post. I know I did. Take care Jess P.S. Whoever was offering some of their cold weather....Me me me me...give it to me....I'll have some!!!!! We are having a serious heat wave down here in Melbourne (Australia). Aaarrgghhh....It's too hot!! And apparently it's not going to subside for a while!!!! Well, it is Summer....hot weather is to be expected. Although, for those of you who have been to Melbourne, you'll know that last sentence is kind of untrue - you can never "expect" weather here... it's a mystery! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Feb 2000 10:25:24 EST From: GWJewelGrL@aol.com Subject: * Nedra If you dont want to get involved in the project towards Nedra thats ok. But, there are reasons why i personally feel it is worthwhile. The way that Jewel inspires many of us to become more creative or become better people in this world, or just to live on, is the way her mother has been an inspiration throughout her life. Not only that, but Nedra has been a big help and source to this list from early on, she has always been very supportive of us and helped come up with the name of the EDAs. She helped out with Jewelstock a while back, helps out in all our projects to Jewel, and has always been a source of light. As well, she also donates more of her yearly salary to HGH then Jewel even does, Jewel once made a joke about this in Glamour when they were commenting on how she donates 40% of her income annually to HGH. It would be kind of those of us who believe we want to recognize what a wonderful person she is and thank her for what she has done by doing a little something for her on mother's day. Its a person's option whether or not they want to get involved, but i dont think that they should confront others on why they are doing a little someting out of the kindness of their hearts for a truly kind and wonderful person. Maybe these random acts of kindness to just everyday people who may have done something nice once before are deeds that need to be done more often in order to make this world a happier and kinder place. *the mystic angel* Jordana "I'd rather see the world from another angle."-Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Feb 2000 15:56:01 GMT From: "Alex MacDonald" Subject: * Chart positions Hello all, This is the first time I've mailed to the list. She's always been there for her and still is (at least, as far as we know from how much Jewel talks about her).. Jewel probably wouldn't be where she is today if it wasn't for her mom (if you know her story).. I don't know how much impact Jewel has had on any of you, but I literally wouldn't be ALIVE if it weren't for her, so someone who's had as much a part as getting her where she is and nurturing and supporting her as her mom deserves the appreciation, in my humble opinion.. I really don't care if you don't want to participate, but it all ties together in my opinion.. And, hey, if for no other reason, I appreciate her as an artist.. I've only her her on This Little Bird, Rudolph, and Face Of Love (and other backup vocals), but her voice is amazing, too =) Scott Evans http://altern.org/jewellmf (Let Me Fly - A Jewel Fanpage) http://altern.org/jewellmf/syd (Killing Me - A Syd Page) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Feb 2000 17:23:37 PST From: "Matt Sullivan" Subject: * Great Idea for Nedra Why don't we do a mother's day/jewel's birthday fundriaser for Clearwater?
