I've just been listening to a whole lot of new angelfood (Thanks Kim! :) Yay!) , and i've really enjoyed hearing all the little intro's Jewel gives to some of her songs. Like little stories etc behind what they mean or what inspired her to write the song. I loved the one for Face of Love, when she was talking about how she was asked to write a love ballad for "Romeo and Juliet", and Jewel goes "but the lady said it sucked...so i'm gonna put it on my album and make it a big hit just to piss her off!" hehe, i cracked up laughing when she said that aye! But anyway, to get to the point, i was wondering if any of you knew of a story behind my all time fave Jewel song "Near You Always" ?? cheers angels, Staci McFly xxoo - the Silver Moon angel (got sick of my other angel name, what do ya think of this one... hmmm) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Jan 2000 23:12:13 EST From: "Lauren Bendeich" Subject: * Jewel's fave. movie etc.. When this merger between AOL and EMI/Time Warner is complete it will give ALL the artists under EMI and Time Warner better access to the internet. Time Warner owns Atlantic, Jewel's label. This will in the future allow Jewel to market her music directly to her fans and also promote her other interests, Like HGH and the Clearwater Project. If you answered yes, you should have your site become part of the Everday Angel Haven webring. Your site does NOT have to be about Jewel to be apart of the ring. The site just has to be made by a Jewel fan. For more information visit the website: http://www.angelfire.com/yt/eda Or email me at: JewelAng@aol.com Thanks Angels! Jewel is signed under Atlantic but Warner owns Atlantic Records. When people are into something they sometimes refer to themselves as "whores" or "sluts" of that paticular thing (ex. DMB slut-- as in people who really like the dave matthews band). I think the shirt meant "rodeo whore" as a girl interested in the rodeo, and that makes sense because of Ty. This is just my view on it... We took a different path this week & selected photos away from the stage. Those who have the "Jewel: A Life Uncommon" video may recognize a thing or two, as several of the shots were done during filming of that home video. Download them while you can! New ones next Tuesday. Speaking of photos, there's a new limited edition item at the website store. It's an original 8x10 photograph of Jewel taken by extraordinarily talented photographer West Kennerly. Many have written me over the past year asking me if West would consider selling you an original photograph, so here you go! These photographs are also autographed by Jewel & come with a certificate of authenticity. You can view this image at the store. Also, if you purchase any Jewel Mug now, you'll also receive a FREE 8x10 Jewel promo photo by "Spirit" cover photographer Matthew Rolston. JMerch is also giving away copies of the long gone "Bits & Baubles" CD, if you purchase all 5 posters. There's other specials, as well, so have a look at what's new at the store. You can also find BOTH Jewel home videos at the store. We have plenty of the before mentioned "Jewel: A Life Uncommon" and we still have a limited quantity of the video version of "Joy: A Holiday Collection" filmed live with an EDA Audience last year in NYC. The store main page also has two handy resources some of you may enjoy, especially those who prefer not to web order. You can easily request Jmerch mail you a product sheet, so you can mail order. The link is right at the store page. Also if you have Adobe Acrobat, you can download the entire JMerch catalogue in PDF format from the site. And of course you can phone order during business hours (9am to 5pm west coast time) at 877-295-3935. To those who've written asking when the three autographed tourbooks will be awarded, the current contest ends mid February. Everyone still has a few weeks to enter this contest. Just click "contest" on the main page & fill out the form so we can contact you if you win. That easy. Oh & several have asked me about our URL. No, you don't need the "www" in our URL. It still works that way but you can simply go to http://jeweljk.com or simply jeweljk.com with most current browsers. Check the calendar for TV & scheduling updates. (Yes, new stuff is still being added quite often) Lots of rebroadcasts lately (including several Jewel programs EDAs were invited to) & some new things to look forward to. Jewel continues work on her book of prose & short stories. This will be out later this year from Harper-Collins publishing. It's titled "Chasing Down The Dawn: Life Stories By Jewel". I'll keep you updated as this project reaches completion. The J Team is also working on a few BIG new projects, some which will be revealed over the course of this year. So stick around! I'm off to shovel a path through the snow & make actual contact with the outside world. Five days ago my brother went into a coma. Drugs were involved, although they may not have been the only factor in initiating the shutdown of his body, they were the 'last straw'. We still don't know the whole story, but apparently my brother (Mark) took Methadone (sp?) and went to his friend's house around 2am to crash. When his friend tried to wake Mark up the next day (Thursday), he was unresponsive and was rushed to the emergency room around noon that day. He flatlined 5 times during the first couple hours and was brought back 5 times. During a test he vomited and it went into his lungs causing more complications - we'll never know if the double pneumonia came before or after this happened. For 5 days Mark was in a coma and kept sedated in order to bring his body back some strength and get his blood pressure under control. He was on a respirator and is in the Cardiac Care Unit. My ! ! family and I have spent 5 days at the hospital scared to death he wouldn't make it, or that he would have severe brain damage. This morning they let him wake up (no more sedation), and to everyone's joy and amazement was asking what happened and has been coherent. We're still waiting to see if there is any minor brain damage, but so far the prognosis is good. The reason I am sending this email to everyone is that I want you all to understand that this can happen to anyone - the amount of drugs he took was not enought to cause this (not enought to OD), but because his body was already fighting an infection - maybe even just a cold or the flu - his body just shut down from the added stress, so if any of you or your loved ones use or are thinking of using any drugs, please let this serve to tell you it really can be life or death every time - even if you think it's just a little. I can't tell you how many times Mark's friend commented that he was 'smart' about the drugs and how much they couldn't believe this happened - Don't tempt fate, enjoy your life, it's a gift! I hope this helps at least one person - I'd like to think that the pain we have gone through can serve to help someone else (including Mark's friends) and is not for nothing. Thanks for anyone who read this far.....
