Idea's (Oprah/loveline) Heya Everyone, As I was watching Oprah the other day I thought that it would be a great idea for jewel to go on the show...they could have the whole show dedicated to jewel and she would really fit into the whole "remembering your spirit" section. I mean come on its her CD title. And also i think it would be really funny if she would appear on loveline, just the thought of jewel answering sexual questions just seems funny and very interesting to me :) ...i mean come on she has appeared on TV shows such as "The Daily Show "and "Craig Kilborn" ( who i personally dislike and i was a little disheartened when i heard she was gonna be on his show, cause he is soo is always being a bigot and he is really fake) but that's my opinion but I thought these show ideas would be a good Idea... I know she is having a well deserved rest from TV right now I just thought these idea's might pop up in their mind! ~WEsllow~ "The Redstick indigo Angel" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Jan 2000 06:34:08 -0800 (PST) From: Charlie Zidon Subject: * Thank you guys, Your information was great. I went to see BNL at this venue on December 29th, and the advertisement board mentioned the Bull Riding that was coming to the Centrum. I SO meant to get information on this, because 1)I like bull riding, and 2)Maybe Ty and Jewel would be there. After reading this article...I am so angry at myself for forgetting to get information on this event. GRR. I was just at a Montana Bull Riding event last month telling myself that I would go to a local event...but no, I forget. I'm on vacation too which is the sad part. I've been bored all vacation trying to find things to do and I missed out on possibly seeing Jewel. Ok, enough venting from me. Any EDA's from the Boston area go to this?? - -Nicole:) angel on horseback ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Jan 2000 15:16:39 -0200 From: "Larissa" Subject: * NJC: About Brazil I know it's been a while, but... Thanx for answering, EDAs! I'm glad someone's interested... Anyway, there are so many things to say about Brazil that I don't even know where to start from!! The country is divided in 5 big regions, but each of them still have many cultural divergencies... So it's very hard even for a brazilian to know about his own country... We have a big geographic, climate diversity due to the big extension of my country, and we have the luck of not having earthquakes, volcano eruptions, hurricanes, tornados or anything of that nature (we have other things instead...) I was so upset when was in US and a woman told me that Brazil was in Europe! The fact is that people think it doesn't really make a difference knowing what's going on in the world that's not US or Europe... Can anybody tell me much about Africa? Actually, we're all too concentrated in our own worlds, and we end up finding ourselves prisioners of them. The point is that we can't see other's problems, we're in a conditioning process that blinds us, and we can't realize that there are people in our front door begging for help! It seems so hard to get people united for a cause, everybody's so scattered... I know there are some who are really engaged, there are wonderfull projects (like HGH/Clearwater and those that are supported by it), but don't you think it's time we started thinking about bigger problems?? That's some of the things I agree with Jewel, when she says that one can make a big difference. But, at the same time, it's so paradoxical, I mean, there's no point in fighting for as many causes as there are people in the world... I don't know if I'm being as clear as I would like (after all, my language is Portuguese, a beautiful one, I think, and not Spanish, like some might think)... Well, well... An important thing to say is that Brazil is not a jungle... Some people ask me if I have pets like monkeys or some other not usual animals... C'mon! If I'm not mistaken, São Paulo is the 3rd or 4th biggest city in the wolrd! Here we have a real cosmopolitan scene. I'd say São Paulo is just like NY, but with smaller buildings... *lol* mmm... It's hard to find what to say, maybe if someone had some questions, I'd be really pleased to answer. If there's anyone still reading all this stuff, could tell me if there are any brazilians besides me in this list? I know I've already asked this and had no answer, but I'm just giving it another try... Ok, sorry for bugging you, waiting for your comments/questions, if there are any. Maybe you'd just like to let me know you read it not to make me feel abandoned... : ) Enough! Thanks for your kindness and patience! So why do some of us seem to make a big deal out of it? Is it because she's famous? And not "being true" to herself? I'm sorry, but who a person is goes way beyond what their physical appearance is. By not being true to herself, she'd have to go against her morals and beliefs to please someone else. It's not a physical thing! So... let's say that Jewel was to get a tattoo. A small, tasteful tattoo on her ankle, abdomen, or above her chest, to the side? Would we make a big deal out of it? Probably. Why? I have no clue. ... But if Jewel were to get one, we'd be like "OH MY GOD!! I Can't Believe She Did That!!!!!!!!!!" Can someone tell me why? Cym >>> Hi , All . Hope this finds you well in this new year , 2000 ! Cym , I'm not sure I'm the " someone " to attempt to " tell you why ," as I come at this from a radically different angle , but here goes ... What you say about " who a person is goes way beyond their physical appearance " is precisely the reason why many people don't believe in body alteration . Jewel writes in one of her songs about the faith we are given by God , we're given to put in Him ( /Her ) . Well, for many , the same reasoning is highly relevant here in the whole body-alteration fad -- hair-dying , and even more so with body piercing and tatoos . You write of morals and beliefs being the key to whether one is being true to him-/herself ... That's true , but to many , body alteration IS a moral / faith issue . Not judging anyone here , for that is for a Higher Power , but I'm not sure I agree with ( being true to oneself ) not being " a physical thing " ... Like Jewel's phrase in a song , about faith ( above ) , many of us believe ( because of morals / beliefs ) that we should we are given our bodies by God , and we should respect Him , and His gift of life , by learning to accept who we are , as we are , and develop our inner life , so we can come to understand that we are indeed , as you said , more than our physical appearance , and alter our thinking , and perceptions of what's truly important in life--not altering our outward appearance , but rather our inner -- And discovering the peace that comes with That way of , living the journey of life . And , it IS a journey , rather than just Today's moment in time . It's where we're headed , Not where we're at at this moment , so what we look like on the outside is so periheral in the whole scheme of things , that that's also a reason to concentrate on being and growing , rather than thinking how we could change our looks for some particular , but maybe not so important ? , purpose . As far as " a tasteful tatoo " ... I'm Not sure there Is such a thing , at least that's what I believe , and some others , perhaps , who follow reasoning like I outlned above . As for Jewel being like Barbie , as Annie writes ... Yes , Jewel is blonde and cute , but otherwise ... It's just my opinion , of course , but I beleve being like Barbie is antithetical ( against ) almost everything Jewel seems to believe in . I believe that being in the spotlight , and probably under some pressure from big wigs at Atlantic records or elsewhere , may have influenced Jewel's decision to look glamorous on occasion , but I believe that deep down in her heart , she's much more comfortable at home or on the ranch without the false fascade of makeup , hairstyling , and fashionable clothes . I think she likes letting her hair down and going casual , and living according to her heart-felt principles and faith / belief system . At least that's what get's through to me , if I " read " between the " lines " of the unfortunately-glamour-driven media appearances she is called upon to make ( endure ! ) . I just hope she can " maintain her innocence ," with all of the pressure that is unfortunately inherent in the world of showbiz . If a part of her letter to us thanking the Christmas Gift Project participants is any indication , it seems she Is still trying . I'm sure she could really use our thoughts and prayers to that effect . Sorry for the length of this , though I hope it was interesting for some . Hopefully I will be forgiven, for I rarely post . :-) I wish everyone a bright new year , filled with joy , peace , and hope . your friend , --Joe ===== folk_rock@yahoo.com My Home Page --Currently on KOSOVO , etc. : http://www.geocities.com/joeshenk __________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Jan 2000 13:11:45 -0800 (PST) From: Jason Vierling Subject: * NJC:Who's goin to stuff this week?
