I noticed that AOL had a little thingy on Joy:A Holiday Collection and this was in there among some other things about her life- "A life-changing experience happened when Jewel was "adopted" into an Ottawa Indian group and was allowed to participate in sacred tribal ceremonies. There, her confidence that she had gifts to share with the world was sparked in a way that has since been realized." I had never heard this... How old was she when this happened? Where was this? Using your suggestions, I've come up with a pretty good format we could use to do this. The newsletter could be distributed on a monthly or quarterly basis and would consist of poetry, art work, and photographs. Just as a fun extra, I thought we could maybe add an "EDA Spotlight" in each issue, highlighting a different EDA each month. I thought also that maybe each newsletter could have a theme, tying it all together. A newsletter will be a lot of work, and I would be happy to do a large share of it. If you want, I will be willing to take the submissions and create the substance of the newsletter. What I would need help with is someone designing it and printing it, in other words creating the finished project. Anyone up to the challenge? Again thank you so much - you guys are awesome :) If anyone has anymore suggestions or things to change please let me know. Any feedback I can get will be helpful. This seems like it will be so much fun, and I'm SO excited! Until next post:) Love, Sari ~ the angel with crinkly eyes~ PS- Anyone have any ideas on what to call it? I was thinking maybe something along the lines of "Wings"....or something angel-ly like that... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Dec 1999 05:41:44 EST From: Jwlfan112@aol.com Subject: * Jewel being pushed for Oscar! Hi all! Just wanted to let you guys and gals know I finally finished uploading all the Christmas season appearances Jewel made on TV here in the US. (At least all the appearances I caught ;-)). I've encoded them in RealVideo format and they're on the site along with screen captures from the performances. Now this is all I plan to upload, cause this kinda thing takes a while to do. I'm not sure how long the site will stay up, I'll leave it alone as long a XOOM (the web space provider) does. So if anybody missed any of her performances, now's the time to catch up. Hi, guys! Hope you are all having a terrific holiday season! Here's a way to make it last even longer...... On January 7, Dan Stark's home (in lovely Jersey City) will be host to a night of music from Jason Mraz, San Diego's newest and hottest talent. I got to see Jason out in SD at the Gathering of Angels. After his set, he was hired on the spot to play the Newbreak Coffeehouse every Friday night. Later that evening, I saw him again playing on the side stage at Jewel's Chula Vista show. Luckily for us, Jason is home in Virginia for the holidays and has offered to drive up and play for us before he goes back California! What's more, he is doing it for FREE (though I'm sure any donations would be happily accepted)! Please email me ASAP if you're interested and I'll get you more details. Dan's house is easily accessible via train, bus, car, and airplane :-) It's only a 10 minute drive from Manhattan or 30 minutes via train. Flight time would depend on your departure city - hehe). Please come if you're in the area - you won't be sorry!! :-) Amy ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Dec 1999 10:16:55 PST From: "iris chen" Subject: * jewel's wiz of oz cd available dear angels, hi! a long while ago, i wrote to the list saying i had an extra copy of the wiz of oz soundtrack. the person who e-mailed me first never sent the money and so it's still sitting around. if there's anyone who wants to get this soundtrack , please e-mail me. it's still in its original wrapped condition, unopened, and i'm selling it for the price i paid for it [about $13]plus postage. thanks. iris ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Dec 1999 11:55:20 EST From: ButtercupGirl03@aol.com Subject: * some of a Jewel transscript...... Pursue dreams intelligently and be kind to yourselves and others. Scroll down to read the full transcript... ***************************************************** OnlineHost: Entertainment Asylum Music invites you to meet talented singer and songwriter Jewel. She is here chatting about her new album, "Spirit." Welcome Jewel! Jewel: Hello, Thank you. Question: What advice you have for teens today? Jewel: I'd say just to listen to your instincts and to your hearts. Pursue dreams intelligently and be kind to yourselves and others. Question: What or who inspired you to write poetry? Jewel: I guess life inspired me to write poetry. Divorce largely inspired me to write, and then in became an inextricable part of myself. Question: When will you be touring? Jewel: I start in Australia in February, but I won't be in the States until the summer. Question: What are you and your mom's foundation "Higher Ground For Humanity" all about? Jewel: It's an umbrella, non-profit organization that supports other non-profit organizations. Question: What inspired you to write "DOWN SO LONG?" Jewel: I was about 18 years old and was just getting out of living in my car, and wanted to not try and just focus on myself. Question: Is there an official web site, or vendor, where I can purchase large posters of you? Jewel: Yes, there is a Jewel website. www.jeweljk.com Question: How does it feel to have risen to the top so quickly? Jewel: It feels good, it's just strange, and I just try to write good songs. I think that there will be ups and downs, but hopefully fans will come to shows and I'll keep going for a long time. Question: Are you planning to pursue an acting career? Jewel: I am doing a film that should be coming out next year, with Ang Lee. Question: What is the greatest thing a fan has ever done for you? Jewel: My EDA is Every Day Angels. My EDA started doing community service instead of giving me presents for Christmas and birthdays and things. Seeing them give back is probably the most rewarding thing for me. I thought you would like to see that if you havent already, thats from 1998. ~Brynn (Just an angel) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Dec 1999 14:53:53 EST From: DmBear978@aol.com Subject: * NJC: January 15th Project Warmth Living Room Concert (So. Subject: * Jewel Euro promo CD I recently obtained a CD I hadn't seen before. It has 3 tracks on it, and contains samples of PoY, WWSYS, and YWMFM. The cover shows Jewel walking down a sidewalk playing her guitar big blue (a common UK photo and poster). The CD states it's for radio stations only, I guess so they can play the samples of the songs on the air. It was released in 1997 before her European tour. Does anyone have any idea how much this CD might be worth? If anything I mean. Also, I recently obtained an original Jewel promo cassette from her first tour with Duncan Sheik. The tape contains Race Car Driver, and 2 songs by Duncan. Anyone have any idea how much this is worth (if anything), or if this is even somewhat of a rare item? I know they were handed out free at her early shows, so the initial value was 0. But I was just wondering if it has any value now...other than something "cool" to have maybe. Also, Happy New Year to everyone! Since it's not really the new millennium, or even century, or decade for that matter, I'll leave it as Happy New YEAR! (Go check into this if you don't believe me...this really *isn't* the new millenium! The media has everyone fooled...so save all your partying for next year like I am...when the REAL new millenium is here!) It's simple math really. 10-1 = 9 2000 - 1 = 1999 (not 2000!). See, we started counting the years with 1 A.D. Not 0!!! Think about it.. 1 A.D. was preceded by 1 B.C., not 0. I'll admit, 2000 will be the last year of THIS millenium! So if anything, celebrate that. Don't be fooled by the commercialism...it's all about money...the sooner they can make the millions of dollars, the better. On that note, I'll talk to everyone next YEAR! Derrick ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Dec 1999 17:53:26 EST From: Wigglytooth523@aol.com Subject: * Jewel screen savers?
