Hi everyone:) I don't post that much, but having a couple of weeks off for the holidays has given me some time to think. I was sitting here with my fritos and an icy diet coke when I came upon a brainstorm (or perhaps it only feels like that since it's past midnight). Lol ;) I know a lot of us (EDA's) are involved in the creative arts in some way. I've heard many on here mention they were singers, writers, artists, etc. I was thinking maybe the EDA's could create something as sort of a collaborative effort. We should come up with a way to share our talents with each other, and perhaps others as well. I know Jewel has touched so many through her art. Maybe we could inspire each other, as well as others, in the same way. This is just an infant of an idea, but I wanted to share with it everyone. It's exciting to consider the possibilities. I know many of you have jobs and busy schedules (as do I), but if we could find a way to fit this in, it would be wonderful. The world could use all the positive influence it can get. And I think I know some EDA's who might be up to the challenge:) If anyone would like to reply with any feedback, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks everyone :) Love, Sari ~the angel with crinkly eyes~ " What we see depends on what we look for." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Dec 1999 16:19:25 +1000 From: "Marissa Edwards" Subject: * Re: Something Jewel said From: Sean35RL@aol.com > > Jewel: "When one person loves you its a compliment. I also agree with what was mentioned a few days ago, I think, about people becoming obsessed or fanatical about celebrities. I love Jewel's music, I love the positive messages her music and her messages to fans express, but I'm not fanatical about her. In my opinion, it reduces her, and packages what she represents. This is one of the things that bothers me sometimes, the way people go on about her as though she is superhuman. She isn't. She is exceptional, someone who has made a huge difference in millions of lives, but we can't love her for who she truly is... she addressed this in an interview (rolling stone) and said how she wants to be loved for what her mother and boyfriend would know her for "for more than my voice". We aren't in a position to do that, and shouldn't fool ourselves that we are. Love from Marissa *~*Crushed Angel*~* "It is a reciprocity I feel with all of you. I know this because I put it on the card myself. This was the last message that I received before the card was finished. Hope you all like it. - -Stephanie The card read: "Dear Jewel , The positive influence you've had on us is immeasurable and is manifested in our thoughts and actions. Your selfless giving of your income and positive use of your status has already changed many lives. Your words, music and actions have inspired the EDAs to follow your lead and give back to you, the Earth and people in need. We sincerely appreciate all you do for us: Acknowledging the EDAs, the opportunities to see free performances (Sessions and Storytellers) and pouring out your heart and soul in every song. Therefore, we want to give something back that shows our continual support for what you are trying to achieve through HGH/Clearwater Project. The result is our group donation to Higher Ground for Humanity/Clearwater to help other communities have what we all take for granted-clean drinking water. In addition, we hope to adopt a community where the EDA's can continually give donations and possible offer physical help to improve the living conditions." Inside Spread: "Please accept our gift to show how much we appreciate your kindness and to reinforce that there really are everyday angels here on Earth. Please view our donation project as a gift and thank you for all of your efforts toward improving the world in which we live. Thank you , Jewel ! You can love her >MUSIC, but you can't love her. I could not disagree more with this. For crying out loud, the word "love" has MANY different levels of meaning. Sean's example above even works AGAINST his point because of that fact. How on God's green earth can a statement like "you can love her music but not love her" be true? It's not true at all. You can love her music on one level and love HER on another level, the casual level. I deeply love my boyfriend Keith. Deeply. I could never Jewel's music on that level. No one could. If you know Jewel and know her really really well, you can love her too, the way brothers and cousins and aunts and uncles love each other. From working with her to some degree, I am certain even MrBB loves her on one level. Of the billions of men on this planet, throughout time a handful of men may be romantically involved with her and love her on yet another level, the best level. It's quite obvious that when people in the crowd yell "I LOVE YOU JEWEL!!" that they don't really love her in the deepest meaning of the word. They "love" her on a variety of different levels. Of course some of them are obsessed and think they deeply love Jewel, but people in that state of infatuation are likely a handful in the concert hall that holds from 7 to 15 thousand people. I love shrimp salad I love my puppy Beauregard I love sunsets I love my new IBM laptop computer I love Keith and I love Jewel No one can tell me that I don't love each and every one of the examples above, because I truly do. Just on different levels. I say "I love my Doc Martiens!," or "I love that song!". The truth is I don't actully LOVE my favorite boots, and I don't really LOVE the song All the Animals and yet, I find myself saying it. The fact is nowadays, the word love can just mean that you are sleeping with someone or that highly enjoy an object. To some people love is not as extreme to others, thus, if someone says they LOVE Jewel, well... Maybe they just don't use the word as seriously, or think it so imprortant, that they feel they can use this word with such freedom. So- maybe by someone's def. of LOVE of Jewel is thinking her voice is that of an angel, or maybe someone just loves the cloths she wears, and so on. Maybe, someone's def. of LOVE is something that aught not be used on a musican, no mater how much you enjoy them. So lets not be harsh on those who say they LOVE Jewel, cause hell! Mabye by their def. they do. Later Angels!! I was watching tv the other night, when the baby (18 months go figure) turned the channel. just as i got up to yell at her for touching the tv i looked up and there it was... sessions :o) i had not yet seen sessions, and in my many pursuits to call pbs noona had a clue what i was even talking about. So i stuck in a tape, and only got the last 5 minutes (her singing hands)So, i ran to check the tv guide, and it was on again Christmas night. So i planned to watch it then, Well Christmas with the baby was real hectice so much more than last year when she wasn't mobile, so to make aloooong story short i missed it again. I was wondering if you wonderful eda's have it on tape and could make me a copy, since im sure it wont be on again. (holiday shows are more than likely over) I have a little bit of angel food, and some other stuff im willing to trade. IT would mean so much to me. Subject: * Jewel's letter Ok, so I just read this...it's very interesting. She's almost talking like she thinks she should quit the biz...at least on the scale she's at now...yet near the end, it's as if she's going on. I don't get it. If Jewel has enough money to retire on as she says, then why not go back to playing coffeehouses and small clubs rather than 20,000+ capacity arenas? I'll believe money and status aren't an issue for her when she DOES revert back to these smaller venues. Till then, actions speak louder than words. She's human, like we all are. And money IS nice to have if you can get it. For her to throw all this fame and pop icon status down the drain would be silly...both financially, and logically. She won't fizzle out until her sales have almost dropped to zero. When she can then make more money in clubs, that's when she'll go back to doing that. Nevertheless, it was an interesting letter...the start was nothing like the end. I was hoping that was like a "so long to fame" letter....but that would be too good of gift. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Dec 1999 11:27:12 -0600 From: Big Sexy Angel Subject: * Re: Something Jewel Said Lemme clarify what love is among fans. We the fans say "I Love Jewel" really you're saying "I'm infatuated with Jewel." It is, as Sean said, impossible truly love someone you don't know. You can give your heart to her but it's like loving someone in a coma, they cant even see you there. Not meant as a mean post but a reality check! There are very few people on this list that actually know Jewel and are considered a real friend of hers.
