All week long I've been reading posts from people who missed recording some or all of Jewel's TV appearances this week. Smugly, I thought, I had been smart enough to program my VCR a full week in advance, to get all of the appearances. Well, merry Christmas to me (not). For reasons I still do not understand, when I sat down today to delight in seeing all of her appearances, I discovered that I missed the Today show, the View, the CNN Showbiz thingy, and TRL. The only thing I got was the Jon Stewart show on Comedy Central. So: Grovel, grovel. If anyone taped those shows (especially the View) and would be kind enough to work a trade, I'll try to make it very worthwhile. Please?? Thanks, and Happy New Year! - -=-Larry-=- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Dec 1999 01:14:45 EST From: ButtercupGirl03@aol.com Subject: * O holy night Hey EDAs I hope everyone had a AWESOME christmas!!! Halo Angels, I wrote this long email trying to desrcibe my feelings after watching Sessions and renewing my faith in Jewel, humanity and myself. But I was speechless. And then Jewel's letter to us topped it all off, so I went away for a few hours and now I am back. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about something I heard on the radio. It was a Disney Christmas special hosted by Whoopi Goldberg and Mickey Mouse and the gang. It featured many different artists, musical, actors, famous people in general. They didn't speak with Jewel from what I heard, but they did play Go Tell It On The Mountain (just that part of the medley...cut it off before From a Distance) and then did a little plug for Joy: A Holiday Collection. Does any body know what I was listening to??? Was it that TNT Fox Christmas Special only on the radio??? It would be nice to know. Did anyone else hear this? Merry Christmas everyone! And Happy Y2K!!! Catch in the millenium! When I got it I just remembered this list, so I'm just going to hang this in my car mirror , I don't know , it felt like I got my own Angel now and that I'm officially and "EDA" , it sounds chessy but that's what I felt when I got it, I believe in little signs that God gives us everyday and we are to busy to ignore, for me this was one of those signs. :) I miss my mom more than ever and the fact that she died on Christmas makes it difficult, but instead of depressing my self I thought she would've wanted for me to go on with my life and try to be happy, which I'm doing and it feels a lot better than crying and ignoring the fact that Christmas is about Jesus and giving. So this Angel reminded me of that. By the way , loved Jewel's message, it's very touching inspirational, to think that she took time from her holiday to type this , probably with 2 fingers since she's not use to be typing or using computers makes it better. best wishes. I think that she means if one person comes up to her and says I love you, etc it's a nice compliment, but put yourself in her position. If you had millions of people telling you all the time how much they love you, when you're just a regular human being yourself, I'm sure it could get quite annoying...especially if a majority of the people don't even really know the true her. So you would kind of think to yourself why would all these people say they love me if they dont even know me? I know I would feel weird with it. I'm sure she didn't mean it in a bad way. Just picture yourself in her position. When 6 million people > love you it's annoying." > Does anyone have any more information about that? It made me sad.. I can't > believe she'd say that. Did anyone else read that? I sure hope she said that. Because she's damn right. And it isn't sad. Because those people don't really love her. I can't love her, you can't love her. It is impossible to love someone you don't even know. You can love her MUSIC, but you can't love her. And that's what's annoying to her. Having people say or act like they love her, when they know next to nothing about her personally whatsoever. It's like those scores of annoying concert-goers(most of which are young females) who feel it necessary to scream "I love you Jewel" as loud as possible in high- pitched squeals in the middle of her songs. That is annoying, not only because it is a disturbance, but because it is untrue. They don't love her. They don't even know her. Eddie Vedder had a great quote about this subject when once, during a concert he deals with a female fan who screamed out "I love you" as follows: "Aww, that's sweet. I love you too," Ed responds sarcastically. "You don't love me. You love who you think I am and the image you have created in your mind." He then goes on to tell her about how he's been with his girlfriend for ten years, etc. This also brings up a side-point about how Jewel needs to control her audience mroe strictly as she once did in the past, although back then it was easier to command respect since the audience was generally comprised of adults, and not teeny-boppers who listen to, well let's just say less than legitimate "musicians," since I know of Mike the list manager's policy of not dissing other "artists" on the list(as if those people, and we all know who they are, can actually be considered artists). But that's a tangent I'll go into another time, when Jewel gets back on the touring circuit. So, in closing, just wanna again agree with Jewel's comment about love, and that I agree with her wholeheartedly.
