It looks so much better, and is alot cooler, yuo even get to hear Jewel while your looking around. GREAT JOB ALAN! Also, I was wondering if anyone has any live Sarah Mclachlan stuff, The song I'm most intersted in getting is "Elsewhere". I had a free download of it but it expired. So if anyone is intersted in trading, please write me. Thanks, Kyle PS RWTD isn't playing in any of Buffalo's 30+ theatres either, this sucks. ===== So Close To Heaven: Kyle's Jewel Page http://soclosetoheaven.tripod.com/ Kyle Adema Photography http://ademaphotography.tripod.com/ "Our fears are not undefeatable by their nature, but by our approach." - Jewel Kilcher ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Dec 1999 23:25:18 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: * RWTD scarce acorss the USA I have no idea why this movie is hardly showing anywhere. I mean, it's not exactly an "indie" film. And I was under the impression (as I'm sure many others were) that it would be in a few more theaters than it is. Being that it was pushed back a few months for the release date, you'd think they'd make the most of it. After searching over 20 phone listings, and 20-30 theaters on the internet in this area (Houston) I discovered it was playing at ONE theater. I went to see it today, and verified with an employee there that this was indeed the only theater in the 4 million+ population city of Houston that it was showing at. Makes no sense to me. There are plenty of big name actors and a big name director. You'd think it would be showing in more places. This movie theater *was* a larger scale complex. So to go against what another EDA said (I forgot who) this isn't only being shown at small little theaters. This one had 10 screens I think...maybe more. It was 3 levels. Anyway, about the movie...I found most of it quite boring. Jewel didn't show up till about 1/3 of the way through. Her parts were so-so. I mean, she did well with the script she was given, it's just that her "part" could have been better. It was pretty low-ley. Not really much to do. But she held her own. If she weren't in this, there's no way I'd ever have seen this movie. But since she is, and we're all supposed to be dedicated EDA's, then if you happen to find a place that's actually showing it, might as well go see it. There's one or two borderline nude scenes which woke me up from the daze I was in. But she never shows anything...really, REALLY close to that though. Tobey is one lucky guy! Skeet too for that matter, he got to kiss Jewel. So there's my summary. I met up with another EDA (hi Amber!) to see it today. I drove about an hour, and she drove closer to 2 to get to this theater near downtown Houston. (Neither one of us live in Houston) I guess we're lucky that it was at least within driving distance for a one-day drive and back. We also saw the movie Anywhere But Here with Natalie Portman and Susan Sarandon. It was a cute show...many funny parts, and many emotional ups and downs. But it kept me awake at least. It's a good movie in my opinion. Natalie is an exceptional actress for those who haven't had a chance to see her work yet...aside from Star Wars (not a good example!) Well there's my summary. I guess RWTD won't break any blockbuster records, that's for sure. Jewel sang only 4 songs, which was a little disappointing. She said she had lost her voice in the middle of a previous gig. Sounds like she got it back for San Diego the next day (you lucky people). I met her at a "Meet n Greet" pre-concert party and she did seem under the weather. By the way, I'd put her at about 5" 5" high. For those who need to know she wore blur nylon over pants (the kind you might ware skiing) and a black short sleeved top with "Rodeo Whore" written in glitter on the front. She borrowed a guitar from The Bare Naked Lades. When the BNL came on to close the concert they told the story that Jewel thanked them for the guitar and mentioned that she lost her voice in the middle of a song and one of them said that he had "crap.." his pants once in the middle of a song. He then said that as soon as the words came out of his mouth he wished he could have taken them back then he explained that he had had food poisoning. It was pretty funny (especially if you are familiar with BNL. I'm just going to respond to this email, because personally I dont agree with you. There are some people in this world, that are truely touched by some people, and there are some people that can touch another persons heart. Everyone needs someone to look up to in life, someone they can relate to, either spiritually, musically, or etc. I personally believe that it is perfectly healthy. As for your little card paragraph..if someone wants to send a card or a letter, why does it make any difference to you? Not everyone is like you and not everyone is like me..and maybe they feel that they are doing some good by sending her a card or etc., maybe it makes them happy. People do things to make themselves happy, and to make other's happy and feel appreciated. In conclusion to this email, I would like to state that yes people would still be alive, and yes they would still grow spiritually...but if they want someone to be a part of it, why would it matter to you..maybe it makes them feel good inside, and personally I feel that living a wonderful life, filled with wonderful people that you care about, is all that matters. Maybe some people feel that Jewel is a part of their lives..its not silly..they look up to her as a person and what she has done in life. soo.. You might as well smile, 'cause there's no point in being mean, guess that's just what you get, when you forget to dream. sorry if I offended you in anyway.. I respect your opinion and I hope you respect mine. >From: HisLittLeEvaNgeL@aol.com >Date: Sun, 19 Dec 1999 12:11:52 EST >Subject: * Of spirituality and idolatry >To: jewel@smoe.org > >Hey guys, it's been awhile since I posted anything, glad to see you're all on >the same notch I left ya guys on. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL AND THAT YOU ALL HAVE A "JOY"OUS CHRISTMAS AND A JEWEL FILLED NEW YEAR :o) I was devastated yesterday when I went to watch a Jewel special that was on Australia's Channel V on 12.9.99 it was some live footage and all of her clips, anyway to my dismay I learnt that a so-called friend borrowed this tape and taped over it.. to say the least I was not impressed and my only hope was to turn to the trusty list in hopes that some kind Australian EDA can copy this for me?. On a brighter note I have not yet got Joy, as it's a Christmas gift and I was very pleased yesterday when Sydney radio station 2Day FM played Silent Night. I thought it was beautiful, ahhhhh what a wonderful way to get into the spirit of the holiday season. All -- It's been great fun being a part of the Jewel fan network known collectively as the EDAs. You're quite remarkable -- even the ones I haven't yet had the opportunity to meet. However, I just can't keep up with the posts (even at the Digest-format). So, it is with great sadness that I am severing my connection with the ML. But, I will still receive the News updates, so we can keep in touch that way. Plus, I will leave my ICQ # at the end. All are welcome to keep in touch.. Now, for my review of the video of _Sessions.._: Back in Sept., I was one of the lucky ones who got picked to go to the taping of Jewel's Christmas special for _Sessions At West 54th_. And, as has been said by many, the mood inside, once it got underway, was so Christmas-like, I was surprised to not find snow and boughs of holly outside afterwards.. :) And, like the taping, the video was just as joy-ful an experience. The editing was quite good --- capturing all that I was unable to pick up on as I was trying to burn everything poss. into my Conscious Mind (an unrealistic task, I must confess...). I even was able to see 3/4 of my face and head & shoulders during her rendition of "Ava Maria"! I had heard a lot of complaints from EDas, regarding omission of some of the songs we were party to. Yes, I was slightly disappointed, but knowing that at least we got to hear/see them was better than never at all.. And, for me, one of the notable features of the video versus being at the actual taping.. Some of the songs are deep and emotional. Add in Christmas (and all the memories that go with it), and well, it was bloody tough not to cry at the taping! But, with the video, I was able to sob and sniffle through "Ava Maria" w/out having to explain myself.. :) So, my rating? Aw, heck, it's Christmas, so 10/10.. 'Nuff said..
