When did Jewel say that she was going to do another movie? Last I heard, she was probably going to tour next year unless she saw a movie script that she liked, and that little Brad Pitt movie thing was just a practical joke (just click the full coverage icon at that site). On VH1 they had a clip of Jewel and she was singing WWSYS on SNL in 1997. Then they had some lady making fun of her.. she was playing WWSYS and then was saying that she lived in an igloo and they had to run around so they wouldn't freeze to death. She started singing Foolish Games and turned into YWMFM and the guy started yelling that she can't tell the difference between her two songs or something... and then he called the Alaskan airlines and they played WWSYS.. it was like this whole thing making fun of Jewel.. it was kinda mean but they were kidding. Did anyone else see it? *Jade* - -Tiny Angel ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Nov 1999 20:59:21 EST From: ZZdeMosq@aol.com Subject: * Coconuts & Devils Hi All, Well I hope all you guys enjoyed your turkeys. I spent the day after Having my "Jewel Day". I got up at 6AM & headed out. Saw the line starting to form at Coconuts. I decided against going to Today show & just stayed put. Long story short, I have my signed Jewel picture & I can die hapy now. I even got to sell some of my 8x10s. If anyone who was on line with me sees this drop a line. I went to see Ride with the Devil afterwards at the luxurious Sony Lincoln Square. Nice flick. & a good day. I'll drop a new post one a these days. I would like to know more about them. Anyone? I, personally, never heard of the Atlantic test pressings of POY... but I guess it's gotta be geniune if the tracks are actually there, and not some imposter pretending to be Jewel. I know some record companies do do those test pressings... Last year Wind-Up Records sent me an Advance Copy of Julia Darling's CD "Figure 8" (then yet to be titled). They did it so they could have an idea of how people would like it. After feedback from those they sent the CD to, they made the actual CD and promos for radio. I think its a really cool thing. Not only do you get to hear new music before anyone else, but you can help them decide if its likeable or not. Consumer opinion is a great help. I never heard of this >before & I can't find it listed in any Jewel discographys as a promo or >anything like that. I would like to know more about them. Anyone? Ah! You've definitely found a true rarity. I know exactly what these are. They're early pre-production "reference mix" CDs of the "Pieces Of You" album & include several mixes that were rejected in favor of the ones later used on Jewel's first album. The one thing you didn't mention is that "Little Sister" isn't included on these CDs. These early test pressings were only made for a few people back in 1994 & as far as I know, have never circulated. The most noticible difference (other than the missing track & different sequencing order) is a very different mix of "Who Will Save Your Soul" that does indeed have a very prominent organ track that was deleted from the final mix. The version of "Near You Always" is actually the same live take on the album but a different mix & has the clapping intact. You'll notice that most of the live tracks have more crowd noise left in on these mixes. String arrangements on Foolish Games & Painters are also slightly different. Other than the version of "Who Will Save Your Soul", there's nothing revelatory about this test pressing, but it is interesting to hear the subtle differences in a few of the songs. Most songs are exactly the same mixes as the released album. I'm not sure what they'd be worth to collectors, but probably quite a bit, considering few of these exist & it's such a hugely popular album. A very lucky find & amazing that you found two! You'll probably be swamped with tempting offers. Enjoy! Alan ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #712 ***************************
