We arrived Thanksgiving night and stayed at Iris and her sister Hale's house (thanks again:). We got up early and took the Subway to Rockefeller Plaza for the Today Show, but I guess we weren't early enough! There were already lots of people there so we could barely see Jewel and decided to stay for only one song so that we could get a decent spot in line at Coconuts. I lugged my guitar with me because ever since I got it, I have wanted Jewel to sign it since she is the reason why I started playing in the first place. We waited in line for over 3 hours but it passed quickly and while I was waiting I said hellos to some EDA's in line ahead of me which was nice. I was also deciding on what to say to Jewel and I had it narrowed down to something like this:"Hi Jewel. Your music means the world to me, and you inspired me to play the guitar. Could you sign it for me?" blah blah whatever right? Well, once we were close enough to Jewel, I had to take my guitar out of its case to get it ready since the rude people were rushing us. These teenage girls behind me asked if I knew how to play Jewel songs, and I said, "Oh sure" so they asked me to play them a song. I played the first few measures of YWMFM and they were really impressed:) Anyways, Iris, Hale, and my sister Pauline had all gone through to get their autographs from Jewel, and it was now my turn. I was so nervous it wasn't even funny...Jewel was talking to the man sitting near her, and I just shyly placed my guitar on the table in front of her. She was STILL talking to that man, so I didn't ever cut in to say anything besides "Thanks Jewel!" right after she signed my guitar. I quickly walked off and that was it. I blew it yet again. Do you know how many times Jewel has been right in front of me and I failed to say anything? Well...only two times I guess but still. I am always too stupefied to say anything since I look up to Jewel so much. Oh well...my only goal was to get my Taylor guitar signed by my inspiration, Jewel. It happened and I shouldn't complain although I still feel a bit of dissatisfaction inside of me. I am now at home in RI with sore shoulders and a sore arm from carrying so much baggage with me around the city, but it was a great adventure, of course. I almost gave in to the man on the street who wanted to trade a trash bag for my guitar, but I resisted the temptation:) But anyways, I want to say hello to all of the EDA's I saw at Coconuts, and I held conversation with an EDA who was really shy and never gave me her name:) You were with your Mom and we were standing near the elevator hoping to catch a glimpse of Jewel...email me ok? :) Also, if anyone taped the Today Show and/or Letterman and would like to send me a copy, email me and we can trade or something nice like that! I plan on going to see RWTD again when it comes out in my neck of the woods, and for those of you who have to wait until December 10th or whenever...it is definitely worth the wait. - -Nicole:) angel on horseback ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Nov 1999 01:00:55 EST From: JusAgapAd@aol.com Subject: * my experience at the today show and the signing....a bit late but worthy To: jewel@smoe.org Sender: owner-jewel@smoe.org Precedence: bulk hello fellow edas, despite the rain and incredibly rude people i would just like to say that the whole today show/ coconuts signing was the experience of a lifetime for a hardcore jewel fan like myself. let me share the story with you if you weren't able to go or if you didn't catch the things i saw when you were there....there was one thing missing from the stories of others....i must be the only one who saw this!!!!!!!! ok i realize it was thanksgiving and all but i live in pa and i had to get a bus at 4 am to be in nyc by 6am....so i left dinner at 8 to go home to sleep.....too bad i never quite fell asleep until 1 .....i had to get up 230 anyway....so i worked on an hour and a half all day in nyc...it was insane.......anyway got to nyc at 6 and i decided to take my 14 year old sister w/ me (i was the girl who was going by herself to begin with) and for some odd reason i decided to pass the abc morning show just for the heck of it......98 degrees was doing an early soundcheck.....my sister got to meet them and get pics taken.....that made her day since she was really only doing me a favor by keeping me company in my adventure to see jewel. Anyway i really thought that going as early as 6am would ensure me a very good view. obviously i underestimated fellow jewel fanatics. there was about 100 or so in front of me......me being me managed to move up about 50 ft within 2 hours just in time to be close enough to hear her do a souncheck. god she was looking even more beautiful than usual. I started snapping pics at all angles........i feel like the real paparazi now....he he....so while i'm doing this people are getting mad at me...people over 35 who were there to see katie and matt......i started to feel guilty but then i realized that i would never see them again so i continued snapping........I mean it was only a role........... All in all she sang absolutely beautiful......every song was perfect.......but it rained...hey did anyone notice that it poured after she left the stage each and every time.....and stopped when she came back on....i find that ironic.... i'm also very embarrassed to say i was also one of those shouters...i'm curious to know if a very very loud "I love you Jewel" got on tv...matt lauer heard it i know that much b/c he said "....jewel who has some pumped up fans...." or something like that right after my huge shout....(i know she hates things like that and it gets her embarrassed but i did it for the fun of it- she made a face when he said that) ......then here it is..the one thing no one mentioned ...DID ANYONE SEE HER FALL DOWN THOSE STAIRS? it was the end right after the later today taping and she was on her way to coconuts...the stairs were wet and she had heels on.....i turned my head and heard the crashing noise of heels on metal...i turned and i saw her tumbling down the stage stairs...she landed in a huge puddle and hurt her left elbow....she was down for about 5 seconds and she cutely jumped up with hands in the air and shouted " i'm ok....i'm ok" then her boyfriend (who doesn't look like her boyfriend Ty) picked her up and gave her a kiss and they went back inside the studio. I got sooooo scared b/c it looked and sounded awful...i was wondering if i was the only one who saw this since I was in the front hanging on to the fence.....i had a good view.....it was awful. so now for coconuts: the people who ran the thing were rude. c'mon we are fans why can't they expect us to be excited to meet someone who we are a fan of? they weren't nasty to me but i felt like a cow being herded...and it felt rushed....but the worst were the kids who were butting in line. that really angered me......worst than securiry. Well the line moved fast enough and meeting her was surreal. she looked like a real person just with alot of tv makeup on. she signed my two cds and a picture and i told her what an honor it was to meet her and she was soooo gracious and sweet. the whole thing was overcoming so i cried as i left the store....tears were running down my face.....by the way the security guards were so mean they told me to hurry up while i was putting my cds in my bag....i could'nt hurry up b/c i was crying and in shock.....i hate them.....they were so mean...like it was nothing and meant nothing....i'd also like to voice an opinion on the guys who were there to sell her autograph...i think its sickening...truly sickening that people would take up the fan's time to do that...not like you could do a "fan screening" before entering but it still makes me mad.........also i never taped the today show ...if anyone is willing to trade me for a jewel tape i would be ever so grateful....please email me about that...... too bad i never got to meet any of you fellow edas....i seemd to be surrounded by all families yesterday who were vactioning in nyc and happened to stumble upon jewel for the day...thats too bad.... bye all...sorry so long sarah *the sentimental angel* ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Nov 1999 00:25:43 EST From: Telisa827@cs.com Subject: * Re: Sessions!!!
