First I want to agree with everyone by saying that a live album is a great idea! What Jewel should do is perform one show where she does all of her hits, plus a few interesting surprises and a few old EDA favourites ('Jessica', anyone?!), and put this show onto a CD and release it, maybe even also as a video too! It's been done by countless acts - recently Sarah McLachlan's Mirrorball and Usher Live have been pretty big hits - and I think that with Jewel's existing fanbase, and the one's she'll gain with her amazing qualities as a live artist, she'd gain a lot of sales, while she could be recording her next studio album! Now, I'd like to add my 2 cents on the cancellation of the Alaska show. I can't say that I am really on everyone's side with this - poor ticket sales, busy schedules, illness, etc, can cause an artist to cancel a show. Most artists usually reschedule these cancelled shows, but this *was* only a one-off really, so she's not exactly gonna reschedule her millenium concert to another day. I do feel sorry for people who have lost money on flight tickets and stuff, but how is Jewel to know about that??? And, hey, do you know what I'd do? I'd go over to Alaska anyway and have a good time without her! And as for Jewel touring Europe again any time soon - I wouldn't bet on it. She's got a busy schedule up until new year, and as she's said in an interview, she won't be touring at all next year if another good script comes up. See you later, Tom ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Nov 1999 16:55:57 EST From: Lseids@aol.com Subject: * New Year's Eve? Is anyone else out there upset about Jewel cancelling her New Year's Eve concert in Anchorage? I just cancelled my hotel accomodations, got my ticket money back and am in the process of transferring my plane ticket to a flight east instead... but I'm still out 300 bucks. I'm not angry... I'm actually sad because it would have been the best new year's eve ever! Now I'll just be hanging in my apt in LA watching the apple drop in NYC on TV. Hope you all have a great thanksgiving... Oh, I know I already posted, but again, this is tempting. And before, I had to restrain myself to only three songs... Now I'm going to be a follower and list a few more... :) Race Car Driver -- I love the way she says "I can see that you are not impressed by the way that you are fully dressed..." Carnivore -- "I'll take back all my songs and my poetry, and this time I won't be so easy to read..." wow. Nicotine Love -- I love the words and the guitar in this. Angel Standing By -- The reason I got Pieces of You three years ago. The song gives me the chills. Amen -- The only song I didn't like at first, oddly enough... But it's so very beautiful. Sometimes It Be That Way -- The first "unreleased" Jewel song I heard, on Hard Rock Live I think it was. Love Me Just Leave Me Alone -- Again, the lyrics, wow. And how she performed it live when I had the pleasure of seeing her.... eeh! So there's mine... Most of these thanks to the Jewel "Audio Only" website. I'm so glad that place exists. :) - --*niina a random angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Nov 1999 17:22:54 EST From: Mp0280@aol.com Subject: * Going to the Today show?? It will be opening wider in Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa on Dec. 3rd. This is contrary to the information on the official Jewel website but nevertheless this is what's happening! Jewel Encounters Hi everyone, I completely understand why Jewel had to cancel her Alaska concerts... I just guess that everyone who was planning to go, including me, is just bummed out. I'm pretty sure everyone understands, but when you look forward to something so much it's pretty upsetting when it doesn't work out. I keep forgetting to put my "three" favorite songs so here goes: In no particular order: 1.) Life Uncommon (this one's my FAVORITE) 2.) You Were Meant For Me (I LOVE playing the guitar for this song!) 3.) Foolish Games (I love playing the piano on this one!) 4.) Down So Long 5.) Live version of Who Will Save Your Soul 6.) Her "Minneapolis Song" that she wrote in *ahem* St. Paul. :) I don't really remember it but she made up lyrics on the spot and that was pretty cool. It was the first and only concert I've been to of hers. Also, I'm going to start a Jewel web page... If anyone wants to send me a story of a concert you went to, or if you got to meet her and etc... I'd really appreciate it!
