I am pleased to invite you to a special concert taking place on November 20th. This show is special because of the artists and the enviroment in which it is presented. On November 20th at 3pm we are pleased to present an afternoon show with Canadian songstress Sarah Slean. This will be Sarah's first ever appearence in Boston. This concert is part of a homegrown series called Longfellow St. Concerts. Longfellow St. Concerts is a series of shows held in our home. Our goal is to present some of the best acoustic musicians in the business, in an intimate, comfortable enviroment. This type of show has long been the standard through the middle of the country where folk clubs are few and far between. For years artists like Greg Brown, Christine Lavin, and others have opted to play shows in peoples homes rather than risk playing a show in a local bar. Because we live in one of the richest music enviroments in the country we have been not been given the privelege of seeing artists in such a small, intimate setting. Because we saw how special some of these shows are, we decided to bring this unique experience of live music to the city. Our concerts have an attendace limit of 30 people making each show a special experience for audience and artist alike. It is very hard to describe how special these shows are. The only way to know what they are like is for you to come one. Once you have seen the joy in the artists faces you will never want to miss a show. "Sarah gives you a window into a soul that is both fragile and resilient. Above all, there is always a sense of hope" - Chart Magazine "I describe her as Tori Amos with all the emotion and power but none of the over-the-top-ness. The best news is that she's just as musically inventive...she's doing her own thing." - Online review "Her shows tend to be characterized by a lot of storytelling and a remarkable amount of self-disclosure. Sarah has gotten to the point where she has so many terrific songs that it is impossible for her to play all of them at any given show." The secret of this artist's appeal is her charisma on stage. Whether Sarah is telling the story of lost love, new love, evil gas companies, being shunned by her favourite rock star or taking a joy ride with JD Salinger, Sarah succeeds at allowing audiences to take a small peek into her life. She reaches out to listeners in a way that makes each and every person in the room believe they are sitting in a small cafe with her swapping tales of joy and/or woe over a steamy, whipped cream topped bowl of hot chocolate. Audiences clear across Canada have been hearing her name roll off the lips of Our Lady Peace frontman, Raine Maida, right before he launches into her piano-based, heart wrenching take on his own "Julia". Her song "I Know" appears on Women & Songs 2 alongside female artists such as Tracy Chapman, Chantal Kreviazuk, Jewel, Natalie Merchant, Paula Cole, Billie Myers, Bonnie Raitt and Sarah McLachlan. Sarah has opened for the likes of Guster, Collective Soul, Susan Werner, Oh Susanna, and The Cowboy Junkies. She is currently opening a few shows for another great canadian act, Moxy Fruvous. So if this artist, and the upcoming concert sounds of intrest here are the details once again. Please remember to make reservations ASAP as these show do fill up. Start Time: November 20th, 3pm Location: 39 Longfellow St. Boston, MA Performers: Sarah Slean Admission: 10 dollars To make reservations, and for directions: e-mail gegertha@tiac.net or call 617-288-4381 If you have any other questions about the show please feel free to e-mail me. This should be a great show, and a nice preview to her opening for Mxy Fruvous the next night at The Somerville Theater. I hope all is well with everyone reading this. Its about the movie. There was part in the magazine and part on-line this is the part online.... There is more in the magazine. The issue with Christina Aquilera on the cover In the spring of '98, 16-year-old Katie Hosack's diary got very interesting. That's when her family's Black River Ranch in La Cygne, Kansas, played host to Ride with the Devil, a Civil War epic starring Tobey Maguire, Skeet Ulrich and Jewel. Here are excerpts from her diary. Wednesday, May 27, 1998: Dad, Nick (my 11-year-old brother) and I went to our farm, Black River Ranch, to see the sites today. There were a few men there working. They are building wooden platforms to put tents on because "Hollywood doesn't like to rough it." I met several equipment coordinators.... We showed them all where the big lake is located, [and] they're all excited about going fishing. They told us they don't get to fish much in California. I was pretty amused by the whole thing (imagine being thrilled over a lake!). Friday, June 5, 1998: Skeet Ulrich came over and stood by me. I felt myself turn red, and I felt really hot. If he only knew how many posters I have of him in my room. He started putting on a different jacket. He had his arms outstretched and he accidentally hit me. As he looked at me and said, "Excuse me, I'm really sorry about that," all I could say was, "That's okay." Wednesday, June 10, 1998: Dad decided to ride Tequila [one of our horses] down to the set. When I got there, the actor who plays Pitt Mackeson came over and grabbed my hand and said, "I saw you riding earlier today, you were excellent. I'm Johnny." Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, an actor out of Ireland, I later found out. When I told him that I was Katie Hosack, he hugged me and said, "This is your land?!?!" Such a nice guy. And *swoon* I've been hugged by a movie star! Friday, June 12, 1998: Today was the best day yet on the ranch!!! Almost a dozen of my friends and family joined us for lunch. We got to pick between Cornish game hen and steak. Soon the actors started coming in. When Jonathan Brandis came, [my friend] Will went crazy. Jonathan had been like his role model or something ever since he did SeaQuest DSV. So I said, "Jonathan, I've got some friends I'd like you to meet." He said, "Hey Katie, how are we today?" and put his arm around me. Then we spotted Jewel. When I first saw her, I thought she was her double. She told us that people come up to her all the time and say, "Wow, you look just like Jewel." She said she just responds, "Yeah, I've been told that." Wednesday, June 17, 1998: Johnny came over and wanted to ride Dakota [one of our horses], so I let him. He took him around a couple of times in a canter and then gave him back to me. As he handed me the reins, he kissed my hand. I was shocked, but tried really hard not to let it show. Then he said, "Thank you very much," and kissed me on the cheek. I told him that he should come riding on the ranch sometime, to which he responded that he would love that, and would I give him my number? I said that I would and he kissed me on the lips and left. It wasn't a big kiss or anything, and I have forced myself to put it off as an "Irish tradition." Yes, that's what I had to tell Dad that it was, just a common ritual that the Irish perform when they are extremely grateful. Read more of Katie Hosack's film diary in the Dec./Jan. issue of TEEN PEOPLE, on stands Nov. 19th.
