Howdy Angels, If you know who Charlotte Church is than you know she has a beautiful voice! I was just thinking how awesome it would be to have Jewel and Charlotte do a collaboration! Rather than the 3 tenors, it could be the 2 Angels! There are so many possibilities with that duo! Also, i want to be the 1st to make a prediction about the Jewel present idea! I predict that because everyone loves this idea, they want to contribute what they and confrontation will once again break out! But then again, doesn't it always? Thanks! So much so that the Alaskan singer is all excited about her first Christmas album, Joy: A Holiday Collection which was released last Tuesday. The album is packed with all-time favourites like Joy to the World, Silent Night and Winter Wonderland. "Christmas has always been a beautiful holiday," said the 25-year-old singer-songwriter in a telephone interview with Life! from New York where she is touring this week. "To me, it's all about the spirit of giving, joy and happiness. And as a singer, I've always wanted to do a Christmas album." She recorded the album within three days in July. "I picked out all the carols in the album myself. They are actually my personal favourites. That's why I enjoyed doing the album. It was fun and there was no pressure at all." Although it was only about 8.30 pm in New York, she sounded exhausted. "I've been having interviews for the past four hours," she explained, her voice soft and high-pitched. Still, she managed to remain cheery throughout the 10-minute interview, sharing with Life! the tidbits about her past Christmases. "As a kid, it had always been about presents. But it's more than that when you grow up. Now I'm just grateful that I get to spend the holiday with my friends and family." Born Jewel Kilcher, the talented chanteuse grew up in Homer, Alaska on a 323-ha homestead where her family led a simple life. They had no TV or running water and as a child, Jewel often helped to tend to the horses they raised. Singing has always been part of her life. By the tender age of six, she was already performing with her parents who were a singer-songwriter duo. And when her folks divorced when she was eight, she continued to sing with her father in various pubs in their hometown. After high school, she left for San Diego where she honed her singing skills and made slowly a name for herself by doing the pub circuit there. In 1994, her big break finally came with a contract offer from Atlantic Records. But even with two albums -POY (1995) and Spirit (1998) - which sold more than 17 million copies, she has not forgotten her humble roots. "I grew up in a poor family and I've always been taught to make gifts rather than buy them." This explains why Jewel who was here in April for a gig at the Harbour Pavilion, still creates Christmas gifts for her close friends and family. "These gifts cane be anything," she quipped. "Sometimes, I'll write a book or just make little CDs of my own songs to give away as gifts. This way, the presents are more personal and meaningful as there'd be more of me in them." Last year, she was invited to celebrate Christmas in the Vatican City. "The experience was great and I felt honoured to sing for the Pope.: And where will she celebrate Christmas this year? "I don't know yet. I guess wherever I am, or at home with my family." - ----------------------- Meanwhile, a little gripe... I find it rather disgusting that I've got to pay an extra $7.00 for the enhanced version of Joy over here! Regards, Jeanette - ----- start of inane commercial ------- Are you a South East Asian EDA? One time in Australia, I forgot about half of > the show. I just forgot the words to the songs, including "Foolish > Games." I was rather pissed at myself, really. I finally brought two kids > out of the audience, and told them I'd serenade them if they'd tell me > the words. I was at that concert!!! Damn she was funny!! And she did looked totally pissed!! But she didn't pick me to serenade!! NO FAIR :( But she forgot about 6 songs that night. But she did sing Nikos for an encore which was great coz it's one of my fave songs, but she forgot every verse of it!! I had to prompt her :) That was awesome fun. I was sitting front row and she was just looking at me the whole time pleading me to tell her the words. When I forgot them for a second she goes "What's next? C'mon darling I need you. You're great." So she got through that song with my help. It was her last one for the night but she didn't come back out for another encore, I was pretty disappointed her finishing on a song she couldn't even remember :( After all her stuff ups through the show she could have at least come back out and yodelled for us...she musta been REAL pissed...just wanted to share that with ya'll...one of my moments of glory...lol Take care Angels, Louise ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Nov 1999 22:09:56 +1100 From: "Jennifer" Subject: * I'm up to 50 obsessions! Look at this "they pick on what you wear and how pretty you are or aren't" you know what's scary, it almost sounds like she's talking about us, I think that everyone should think about what they are going to say next time before you say..... don't say anything that you wouldn't say to Jewel's face, because you never know who is going to read it. Have a good one - -Megan What Jewel thinks about the press: "they pick on what you wear and how pretty you are or aren't. And I find that very tiring. But one of the best things. One of the things I'm most proud of as an artist is learning to turn a deaf ear and write simply for the joy of writing. As I had done before I got into the business." -Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Nov 1999 20:15:37 +0200 From: Koos van Zyl Subject: * Jewel on BBC World Howdy! I saw Alex Oudshoorn's post today, and realized "Hey, Jewel will be on TV in less than an hour!!" :-) I wanted to tape it, but Dad hadn't fixed the video recorder's remote yet (he's going to hear from me tonight....). Anyway, the guy from Talking Movies (Tony somebody?? Can't remember...) had the interview with Jewel, which was longer than I thought it would be. He asked questions like what it was like for her to see herself on the silver screen, why she decided to act (it's something she always wanted to do), if she'll act again (definitely! It's a tremendous learning experience). Actually intelligent questions, unlike some talk show hosts I know....:-þ I liked the way Jewel answered the questions. The last time I saw her on TV was during "10 of the Best" on VH1, and she really looked as if she didn't want to be there...(when I saw the "10 best" videos they played I understood why she didn't want to be there....:-þ). This interview was quite in contrast with that. At the end they played a short extract from WSIT, which looked really nice. And I didn't see a single bit of BLUE!! Wow...:o) Just before the interview they showed small clip from "Jupiter" and also showed a clip from RWTD (naturally). Anyway, I'm glad I could catch that bit! I just was amazed with the beauty of the videoclip. It was just like Jewel was Sue Lee Shelley and i really was thinking that this new video was a fairytale . I think far the best videoclip Jewel has made. I just want to say it's one total refreshing video in comparisation with the previous video. I loved the scenes in the video where Jewel was romantically involved . That truly shows Jewel beauty and honesty the best. I am joining the army this Sunday (I live in Israel and it's mandatory here) which means I will only be home on the weekends and won't have very much time for my email and things like that. You can still post poems for my EDA poetry page by emailing me, but it may take me a little while to put them up. and thanks to all the talented people who have already sent theirs in. So, it would seem that it is "my time to go". Here's what I have to say :) This list is great, I love it, and I love you guys. I hope you won't change too much without me. I hope this group will stay as supportive and warm as it has always been. I will never forget how much you guys helped when a teacher I loved very much died. I know there are often struggles and fights, but at the end of it all, we are still each-other's angels...
