Hello fellow EDA's!!! It has been a VERY long time since I've posted but I always keep a watchful eye (sometimes two!) on what's going on here. Louise's post inspired me to finally post again. I want to say I am one-hundred percent in favor of donating to HGH. I would love to do more than 5 dollars, but that's about all my little budget will allow. I'm glad to see there's a positive response to this! I imagine (don't claim to know her or anything!) Jewel would be quite pleased with this kind of sentiment and support for a cause so dear to her heart. It would alsl do a lot to show our true interest in her and what she believes in. We know how much she prefers the EDA's and her fans in general not to idolize her as much as become inspired and motivated to creating positive changes. So Louise, thank you very much for sharing your idea with us! : ) Come on EDA's, as many as possible, make a contribution in the spirit of "Joy" (Ha, no pun intended there!) and the giving season, and donate five dollars to a cause you know is worthy! This is part of what being an Everyday Angel is all about right? Love to you all! It is snw1977@hotmail.com I live in Cincinnati and have talked with some of you before....Kerri, Amanda, and Bob.....also, to Carol who welcomed me to the list!! Hello to all of you. =) Okay, now to the point of this post....I tired to tape TRL yesterday, but either the tape or the vcr is messed up because I ended up with a blank tape, when I thought that it was going to be TRL. I am really disappointed because I wanted to see her new video. Anyhow, I was wondering if any of you knew when there was going to be a repeat or if not, did anyone tape it?? If so, could you email me privately to let me know?? Thanks. Last but not least, Joy is so awesome. I feel a little funny listening to Christmas songs so early, but it's Jewel...that's what makes it different. I'm so glad that the critical comments have stopped being posted to the list...it was getting quite old after awhile. Jewel is so beautiful and talented; it's really beyond me how anyone could say anything negative about her. She main gain weight or look tired sometimes, but she's human... Who doesn't gain weight or get tired?? It's part of life. The Christmas album is the best and now that I've seen the video; I believe that "Gloria" is my favorite. Oh, one last thing...is there any way that I could get a transcript of the chat with her??? I don't have AOL, so wasn't able to participate. Okay, enough rambling...bye angels. I hope that you all have a safe and wonderful weekend. - -Shana (the angel that hasn't chosen a name yet) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Nov 1999 17:48:47 EST From: WASoccer25@aol.com Subject: * I'm Sensitive Hey guys! I don't know if you all already know this but I was watching The Other Sister last night with some friends and about half way through it they started to play I'm Sensitive. It's in the movie! I was so excited because I wasn't expecting it at all since it's not on the soundtrack or anything. I just thought some of you might like to know, talk to you later!! Well, here's a snippet from an article to answer that: She is happy to be in London for the film's opening. As she said in an interview with The Guardian: "In England, they're a less sensational fan group that's well educated, but I find Europe that way in general: much more informed." Sorry to unload another Joy review on ya'll but I can't help myself. Well in case your wondering if it's as good as everyone says... it is. For me the highlights of this CD were O Holy Night and Gloria. O Holy Night is probably my favorite Christmas carol ever and Jewel does a fantastic rendition of this classic. She really shows off her operatic training. She really sound angelic and almost brings tears to your eyes as her voice rises and falls with the hypnotic melody of the song. While Gloria is not the traditional standard version of the song it is a fantastic rendition. Once again her operatic training really shines through on this song. She gives a knockout performance. Really folks if you haven't picked this CD up go out right now and do so. You will never forgive yourself if you don't. - JD ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Nov 1999 18:19:51 EST From: Goddess3333@aol.com Subject: * Question about Giving back to Jewel How do we all know that this is actually goin to get to her? It's ingenious using our donations to adopt a new Clearwater Project location. I've got an idea to add on to this. If we get this new location started, we could make a banner to put on Jewel fansites to support this specific place, and keep it an EDA thing. Well, that's just a thought, so.. Hi everyone! I think that this Christmas card idea is brillant. I was tempted to donate money through the HGH website but it just seemed so... inpersonal. This idea is much better. Think of what alan/mr.bb said: >If that actually happened, the EDAs would be well on the way >to setting up a clean water system that would dramatically >improve living conditions for an entire community in thier >adopted location. that just sounds spectaclular! Think of how proud Jewel would be of her EDA's if we could help living comditions for a whole community of people in our (choice?) location. So about five bucks each is all it would take. Those who need to stretch their money could donate a little less, and those who can afford to do so can donate a little more. As far as the card goes in response to that question, we wouldnt all sign it personally but the card team would write all of our names on it. I think it would be really nice if the group can write all of our names as well as possibly our angel names and do it in some nice calligraphy, it would make a really great impression.. But i think we need to get this rolling and decide who is going to be in charge of handling the money, where we are going to send the money to, how we are going to send the money (dont need it to get lost in the mail), who is going to be involved in the card making process, and what the deadline would be to submit money so your name would be on the card. I think this is great and we could really raise a lot of money and just think of how many people we would help!!!! Kind of like the adopt the highway program....but for a much more worthy cause :) Well lets get this rolling...if anyone has any ideas, or wants to get involved in one of the above mentioned positions then lets keep it updated on the list. STORMING TIMES IN DIXIE. RIDE WITH THE DEVIL (15) Verdict: A thoughtful western epic, but overlong & sometimes dull 4/5* Not many large scale westerns get made today; but there is always something about wide landscapes, galloping horses & suicidal cavalry charges that raises the spirits. Let Ride With The Devil wash over you, & you'll feel you're in the presence of a real film. It is an intelligent epic which will rightly be acclaimed by critics, even if it underwhelms the public. Director Ang Lee & writer James Schamus, who made the excellent if cerebral The Ice Storm, have created an equally thoughtful film on a far larger scale. It depicts the American Civil War from the unexpected point of view of some confederate teenagers fighting the Yankees as a guerilla force. One of them, Jake (Tobey Maguire), gradually falls out of love with his own side & with warfare in general, partly because he becomes friendly with a black southern slave named Daniel (Jeffery White) Along the way, Jake has an edgy relationship with a young widow (played by singer songwriter Jewel) who is attracted to the hero's more handsome pal (Skeet Ulrich) The film works well as a rites of passage movie for Jake & the young widow. Schamus's script has some great lines for Maguire & Jewel who give touching performances as they spar & grow up. Both must be in with a chance of Oscar nominations. Jeffery White has a more thankless task as a black man defending the South, truly a Daniel in the lions den. Though this is Daniel's story as much as Jake's, the script doesn't really get inside his head & allow us to understand him. The film suffers from excessive verbosity, a lack of action in it's first hour & some curious casting decisions. Too many of the younger cast members are hard to distingush from each other. The leader of the Confederates needed to be much more charasmatic. Good actors are wasted on minor roles (Tom Wilkinson turns up briefly, but has almost nothing to do). Moreover, it's praiseworthy refusal to deliver a conventional action climax will dissapoint the young audience that might otherwise have flocked to see it. All the same, Ang Lee shows his usual mastery of landscape, helped enormously by Frederick Elmes's excellent cinematography. They & the assistant directors manage some suberb action sequences, even if they come rather late. This is an almost great movie that requires it's audience to be patient & alert to it's creators intentions, which were to probe the psychology of those engaged in the civil war. It's sensitively handled & a burning topic in the decade of Bosnia & the break up of the Soviet Union. There is an awful lot to admire in this film's scale, intelligence & humanity.
