I Believe very few Angels are put in this earth by God, my mother was one of them. It would take me literally a couple of years to write all the good my mother brought to human kind,to those around her and those far from her, so I won't get into that. But I can tell you that around this time last year Spirit came out and I would listen to it in my car on the way to the hospital everyday, somehow it gave me strength to cope with the unimaginable, to this day I can't listen to Deep Water without immediately having a vivid image of me driving at 90 miles an hour to get to the hospital in 5 minutes. Spirit got me through the worst time in my life a year ago and today with the holidays approaching I am re-living the whole thing day by day again. When I put JOY today in my car tears started rolling down my eyes , even though I went to the Sessions taping and I heard her sing the songs live, it was different, I was surrounded by people and I was not going to let my feelings get in the way. But when I was in my car today and heard her I was in awe, Jewel's glorious voice singing the perfect choice of Christmas songs ,I just couldn't handle it . So this year , Jewel's album is going to help me go through it again and instead of feeling all gloom and sad I will get my Christmas spirit going and I will celebrate , I will put a Christmas tree for the first time in years, I will go and max out my credit cards and buy gifts for all my friends and on Christmas day I will celebrate the day that Jesus was born and I will remember the day my Angel joined him in the heavens and without a doubt I know both are looking down upon me and the world, with the most beautiful music and voice in the world to remind me of it. Thanks for telling the list a story about Jewel attending the premierre of her first movie in London, europe. I wished i could have been there to be honest. It was at the first of two shows Jewel did at the Beacon Theater in New York in March of 1997. It's one of the worst if not prob'ly the worst Jewel concert on record. It was barely over an hour long, she was terribly sick, her voice was shot, the crowd was atrocious, and she almost walked offstage when after playing(I think) All the Animals, a mysogynistic male screamed out "Take It Off" out of the dead quiet near the end of the song(she was still playing). She took her guitar off at the end of the song and had a very disgusted look on her face and perhaps even made a move to walk off, but instead an idea sprung in her head and she played Pieces of You, changing the first couple of lines from "ugly girl" to "stupid boy." The next night was somewhat better(although that night was during a horrendous rain/sleet/snow storm) but those two nights on the Tiny Lights tour were two of her worst, especially in terms of length, due to her illness. I always thought she should've cancelled and made up the shows when she was healthy. I've been to a few shows by other artists where they were sick or injured in some way and I am always one to say, postpone the show and do it when you're a hundred percent rather than have an audience shell at good money to get a mediocre or shortened performance. Just a quick reminder that TONIGHT (Thursday) Jewel will be in a live chat on America Online (AOL) at 7pm ET. (4pm PT) AOL Keyword = ????? (On the OFFICIAL Jewel website it says two different things. In "Headline News" it says the keyword is "live", and on the calendar it says the Keyword is "AOL live". It's best you try them both, but I would guess there will likely be a link to the chat on the main "Welcome to AOL" screen when you log on tonight) Also, you must have AOL to be able to participate in this chat. Those that have AOL Instant Messenger and *not* AOL cannot gain access to this chat (at least that has been the history with past AOL chats with Jewel) For those with regular web access, don't forget that Jewel will be having another live chat next Monday (the 8th) on the www.alloy.com web site. LOL that was sooo funny. I just hafta say thanks(I think) for the enlightenment on the firzbee incident. I wish I knew about Frizbee Defense Force Tryouts, here in Orlando I woulda been there in a heartbeat. That would have been fun just to watch LOL! But Alas, Jewel was a complete unknown to me at the time =( I first saw her less than 24 hours after Jewelstock. Man, I wish I coulda been there!!!!!!! One last thing, I think Jewel would still walk out of a show, but now because of her star status she couldnt without suffering some major troubles. Jewel is still the same person she was 3 years ago, just famous. Gosh, I'm just full of reminders today, ain't I? This is just another quick reminder that Jewel will appear live on MTV's Total Request Live tomorrow, Friday November 5th. The show starts at 3:30pm ET and lasts 90 minutes. Also, on the show will be the world premiere of Jewel's new "What's Simple Is True" video. As far as a repeat airing goes, while there has been some minor debate as to whether or not it will re-run tomorrow/Friday evening, the official MTV site lists it as being on again at 8:00pm ET (which is a change from the 7:30pm listing it had earlier in the week) Mike :-) * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand, * or have a burning question about Jewel and/or the list, * The Jewel/EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.quackquack.net/jewel * Many basic/common Jewel and list questions can be answered there :-) * * Need some Angelfood? Unfortunately Jewel didn't appear which was really disappointing. Ang Lee, Tobey Maguire and Jonathan Rhys Meyers did show though. The movie was great, perhaps a little overlong, very funny in parts, especially Tobey Maguire who I think was excellent. Hopefully Jewel will stick with just singing. A bonus for attending the UK premiere was that we all received copies of the James Schamus script, which I believe is being released soon. > How was the show This morning. So you didn't miss Jewel, but you did miss a real star there. A heavilly pregnant Emma Thompson who was wonderful, taking time to go over to her fans and sign autographs for them. Chris. Words cannot express how awe-stricken I was when I put this CD in my stereo the night I got it and put on my headphones and took a listen. Jewel's voice has NEVER been better, and it brings out emotions in you that you never thought you had. The CD start out with a loud choir singing Joy To The World. The song carries on sweetly, and Jewel adds her little improv spins on it near the end. O Holy Night is probably one of the "best of the best". Again, her voice sent chills up my spine when she sang "fall on your knees.." All of the other traditional songs were done very gracefully, not straying too far away from the original while adding a little Jewel flavor, especially on "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing". Now, let's get to what earns this CD five stars! "Face Of Love": WOW. That's really the only way to put it. It's such a sweet love ballad, with the most amazing lyrics: "Take my hand knowing with it I also give my heart wanting never to be seperate again.. let eternity begin" and "If you were a flame I would allow myself to be consumed completely" are just some examples. You can literally feel the warmth in her voice. The Gospel Medley made me dance. There, I said it. I couldn't help myself. Jewel's voice floats above everything and rips your heart out.. Now, let's talk about the last song: the Christmas version of "Hands." Now, please don't think 'CHRISTMAS VERSION?! What the h$%^ was she thinking??' It is an absolutely awesome version, with just a lil touch of Christmas spirit in it. She changes things around just enough to make it sound completely new, yet familiar all the same. And when she holds "they are my own," you know whoever came along with the idea for the CD struck gold. 'Nuff said.
