I've been an EDA for a little over a year, but I have never posted before. I'm in my second year as a CIS major, and i'll try to expalin the question Jenni had about the CGI error. At the sake of sounding like a computer nerd, CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface. This executes programs between the server and your computer that process input, such as a customer request form of in your case an e-mail. So basically the language between your computer and the Jewel server wasn't compatable. I've never tried to email Jewel, but that is an error of the server and not your computer. I bet if you keep trying, they'll fix the server and you can get your e-mail off. Hope i could help, Cliff the loveless angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Nov 1999 23:33:36 EST From: Harrisbros@aol.com Subject: * Frisbees and Home Videos (aka, a review of "Jewel: A Life Uncommon") Today (Monday, Nov 1st) marks two interesting bits of Jewel-related news. First, the local radio DJ claimed that the Frisbee(tm) was released on this date... and ANY longtime Jewel fan KNOWS what the Frisbee-Jewel connection is! ;-) (Does Sinjin still have Jewel's EDA Frisbee Guard assembled and ready for action? :-) Second, as Alan posted earlier, the Jewel home video has been released a day early! Is it as good as MrBB claims? Should you buy it? Well, I'll share my first-hand opinions with y'all now. Alan gave some of us EDAF members a sneak peek at the Jewel home video titled "Jewel: A Life Uncommon" last weekend, so I've already seen the finished video. After a busy week running SoCal EDAs Jason and Sonja around the east coast, I finally have time to write a quick review... Now, I'm admittedly NOT the most avid Jewel collector, but this video has some very nice things going for it: 1) Much of it is composed of behind-the-scenes home video clips, featuring Jewel, her brothers, parents and longtime friend/collaborator Stevie P (Poltz, that is). 2) You get a glimpse of Jewel's sillier side as she horseplays backstage, on the road and at home. 3) There are several really excellent live songs performed on the tape. 4) The technical and aesthetic production values are quite good. (Nice work, BiBi ! :-) 5) The tape is only an hour long, so you can safely show it to friends and family without being accused of subjecting them to a "forced" Jewel marathon! I've been fortunate enough to see many Jewel performances over the past three years, and meet many folks among her friends and family, but there were still some interesting things I learned from "Jewel: A Life Uncommon". So, on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give this video a 6-7 for "normal" folks, and a definite TEN for anyone interested enough in Jewel to be on this list! :-) Now, I'd like to see some home video of Steve and Jewel's famous trip to Mexico, and in particular the photograph Jewel has repeatedly told us about -- the one they took with the federales, AK-47s and the half a ton of pot! I hope well. Just wanted to say that I got the christmas CD today and it's really beautiful - I like it a lot. It says it's a HyperCD, so I put it in and logged onto the internet and it took me to a screen that said "click here for a special bonus video" or something like, but I clicked on it and it says that the page doesn't exist...what up with that, yo? Oooh, and plus, remember when Jewel was on the cover of "Readers' Digest" a couple of months ago? Well, doesn't the cover of "Joy" look like the picture was taken from the same photo shoot? Hmm...I have too much time on my hands. Also, there's an article at Entertainment Weekly Online about Jewel. It talks about Jewel quitting music, which I frankly don't see happening. Here's the article, though: GIRL ON FILM Is Jewel quitting the music grind? Tour burnout drives the multiplatinum songbird to put acting first. By Liane Bonin Sure, Jewel has a new album of jingle-bell rock, ''Joy: A Holiday Collection,'' in stores today, but when it comes to hitting the road to yodel her tunes, she's sounding a little Grinch-like: ''Being on stage is always electric, and I love it,'' says the precocious 25-year-old, ''but the travel part is real hard for me.'' After slogging through a summer tour of Europe and North America with only a few days off, she says the pressure to please not only her fans but the media and her record label has done a number on her self-esteem: ''The constant homecoming queen, I'm-going-to-be-the- best-cheerleader-this-year contest is draining. Do I have legs as nice as Mariah Carey? Who cares? When you're on stage you don't think about it, but sometimes just getting to the stage is the hardest part, and I find it really tedious and overwhelming.'' Living up to Mariah's much-exposed gams isn't the only thing bugging Jewel, whose next concert won't be until New Year's Eve in Anchorage. She realized that playing and performing nonstop is a routine that has lost its luster. ''I'd grown complacent in music,'' she says. ''I'd been doing it for so long it was like a natural limb, and I felt the other parts of my creative body were starting to atrophy, which is horrifying.'' So she turned her attention to acting, snapping up a lead role as a Civil War widow in Ang Lee's ''Ride With the Devil'' (opening Nov. 24). ''I had zero skills at it, but I was desperate for the challenge,'' Jewel says. ''Still, that doesn't help you evade the fear. With music, if I fail, it's just me looking like an idiot. But with the film, I could let everybody down. So there was a lot of pressure.'' Despite her lack of experience, she says she discovered that acting and music are surprisingly in tune. ''As a writer, I get inside people's heads and deal with characters, which is the same thing an actor does.'' In fact, she liked the experience so much she's ready to try it again -- but producers take note, there's one part she won't play: ''I'm not interested in singing and acting in a movie.'' Too bad. With her blond good looks and yodeling skills, she'd be a natural for a ''Sound of Music'' remake. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Nov 1999 14:13:12 EST From: Sabato229@aol.com Subject: * EW Poll Results and Bonus Video ?? I was just at the store and the Entertainment Weekly is out and the poll result was Alanis with 24.2 % and Jewel in second with 15.3 % Shania Twain was like 6th and they showed her picture. I also got my "JOY" cd and it says on the bottom back cover Exclusive Bonus Video with this cd.... what's this all about? I can't watch it cuz my cd-rom thing is broken so if someone could let me know what it's of I'd appreciate it :-) And I ordered my LU video -- he said it should be here in 10 days What a BIG day for me :-) Can't Wait !! Well, I just got the CD, haven't opened it yet.. I'll post a review later.. But on the sticker on the CD, it says "Includes all of your classic holiday favorites plus the brand-new song 'Face Of Love'".. Since it's a Christmas CD, I would think it would only have one single released from it; and they usually say the current/future singles on the label, so who knows? maybe she was right at jewelstock when she precicted "..so I'm going to make it a big hit and piss her off!" p.s. (not really related whatsoever to Joy) Where does Jewel live? It seems in her early days she traveled a lot and spent a month here and month there and probably had a series of apartments, but does she have a house somewhere (besides the infamous Kilcher Homestead)? Maybe this is something I've overlooked or payed no attention to.. but I'm kinda curious.. where does Jewel live? Does she live alone, with Nedra? Hmmm.. Anyway.. I'm hoping for an answer! Jewel Kilcher plays Sue Lee Shelley, a feisty widow giving confederates comfort in the storms of the American civil war, in Ride with the Devil, the new Ang Lee film that opens the London Film Festival tomorrow. She is happy to be in London for the film's opening. As she said in an interview with The Guardian: "In England, they're a less sensational fan group that's well educated, but I find Europe that way in general: much more informed." Her book of poetry displays a somewhat eccentric view of the English in a poem called In the South of England Somewhere, which is all about a lawn-mower museum. - -------------------------------- The rest of the Guardian interview can found at http://www.newsunlimited.co.uk/arts/story/0,3604,98683,00.html Chris.
