Angles, Well, I am sick and tired of all the bockering I only have one thing to say....and that is a quote from the Who Magazine, where Jewel was featured as one of the sexiest women of the year: Neil Simons from the New York Times wrote: "The bridge on her nose has a little crook; there are blackheads in the indentation between her lower lip and her chin. But those imperfections and the fact that...she does nothing to remedy them just make her more perfect." I think we should all consider this fact. He really seemed to know his stuff, saying that Jewel is now the highest paid poet in world history and they joked about hearing Walt Whitman turn in his grave. They went on about her for the first 2 minutes or so of his interview. I had no idea baseball players read poetry! Also I was just reading in bed again tonight with the radio on in the background...I usually don't listen to the country station but was too lazy to change the station tonight and was generally ignoring the music anyways. But then I found myself sort of critiquing this song that came on...it seemed normal with a beautiful ladies voice I at first compared to Dolly Parton although resented that thought right away...then an older guys voice came on and it sort of turned me off of the song and I continued reading until my heart stopped beating after the song ended and I learned from the radio DJ that it had been Jewel's new duet with Merle Haggard. Ahhh!! Now I wish I had paid more attention. At least I know now that I should be able to find that Cd in the stores now, as I couldn't when it first came out. Gotta love Canada! Take care Angels, Erin (The angel who thought Jewel looked positively ill on the Leno show and would have been much more content to hear she stayed home in bed.) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Oct 1999 04:13:59 GMT From: "Lamont Cranston" Subject: * RE: What are "Period Teeth" A Long-winded explanation: When a movie is set in a specific time in the past it is a "Period Piece" This can be any time from now back as far as ancient Eqytian time or farther back. Film makers try to be as accurate as possible, they dress the people in clothes apropriate to the time, give them {in the case of this movie anyway.} guns and horses apropriate to the time period. In the context Jewel spoke of on the Craig Kilborne show. "They choose me because I have 'Period Teeth'" It means they liked the fact that she didn't have "Hollywood Teeth", like many people of the time, in fact. At that time they did modern dentistry, and as a result no braces. If your teeth came in crooked then that's how they stayed. So Jewel having crooked teeth, and being short was much better suited to play the part than a 6' supermodel with perfect teeth. Well anyway, I've bored you enough ~~fin ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Oct 1999 08:14:18 EDT From: "Carolyn Lake" Subject: * Re: a little dissapointed I have a question: Is Interlocken a high school or college? Figured it was time to speak up, make a few comments, rattle a few "trees", before things on the List get any worse.. First off.. To all of you whining about and critiquing Jewel's figure, choice of outfits, etc. What the hell?? Are you the same people who were responsible for assembling JewelStock...?? The same people who were offered the opportunity to attend Jewel's taping for _Sessions.._? I'm sorry, but being a fan or an admirer is supposed to make one less shallow, finding oneself seeking out other admirers to share a fellow love of an artist's work. What I am seeing, however, is a group of people who are nitpickers, seeking to shape Jewel in the image they "remember" (quotes are intentional). That's just wrong! In many ways, this list has become just like every other fan-based list I have ever gotten involved with. And, that's sad, as when I came on in August (when I actually learned of its existence), this was one hell of a discussion forum -- everyone sharing favorite reviews from the 'Spirit' Tour, favorite songs, etc. Now, I find myself considering unsubscribing, just so I don't have to see the comments and criticisms.. Maybe this is wrong to say, I don't know, but then again, I've always tried to say what was Right, even at the cost of isolation.. According to the trade organization, Jewel's bow ties Shania Twain's Mercury Records Nashville disc ``The Women in Me.'' The discs qualify for the RIAA's recently created Diamond Award, which tracks albums certified at the vaunted 10 million-unit level. Alanis Morissette's Maverick debut ``Jagged Little Pill'' leads the femme all-time and Diamond certifications at 16 million, followed by Whitney Houston's Arista Records offering ''Whitney Houston'' and Twain's ``Come on Over,'' which are both certified at 13 million units. Other Diamond certs for the month include Matchbox 20's ''Yourself or Someone Like You,'' the band's Atlantic debut. The Backstreet Boys' Jive Records disc ``Millennium'' and Britney Spears' Jive debut ``Baby One More Time'' are both certified at 8 million units, joining the Dixie Chicks' Sony/Monument disc ``Wide Open Spaces.'' The RIAA, which tracks albums shipped to stores but not sold through to fans, certified 43 gold (500,000 units), 23 platinum (1 million units) and 43 multiplatinum albums during the month. Santana's ``Supernatural'' topped the 3 million mark, becoming the veteran band's highest-certified album since the 1970 classic, ``Abraxas,'' which reached 4 million units. Lauryn Hill's ``The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,'' topped the 7 million unit mark. By doing so, the Ruffhouse/Columbia Records disc tops her old band the Fugees' best-selling album, ``The Score,'' which was certified at 6 million units. As he prepares to release his latest album, Michael Jackson's double-disc collection, ``HIStory: Past, Present & Future, Book I'' topped 7 million units, a level attained or exceeded by three previous Jackson albums -- ``Off the Wall'' (7 million), ``Thriller'' (25 million) and ``Bad'' (8 million). The Temptations receive over 30 RIAA certifications, with their first multiplatinum certification awarded for their 1996 Motown Records release, ``The Temptations Greatest Hits.'' The disc topped 2 million units. Two other albums by the group -- ``All the Million-Sellers'' and ``The Temptations Give Love at Christmas'' -- are certified platinum by the RIAA. The group had four singles -- ``I Can't Get Next to You,'' ''Ball of Confusion,'' ``Just My Imagination'' and ``Papa Was a Rollin' Stone'' -- certified platinum. The Temptations are now second only to the Beatles as the group with the most RIAA certified gold singles. The Beatles have 24, while the Temptations have 16 total gold singles. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Oct 1999 19:25:36 -0400 From: "Alex MacPhee" Subject: * Jewel mentioned on VH1's "THE LIST" today Today, on the list, the topic was "Best artist/band of the '90s".
