I don't know if Bob posted this yet, but here's a list of all locations in South Florida that distribute Exposure Magazine. If you live in South Florida or will be visiting soon, hurry and pick up a copy, because it's the October issue, and as you may have noticed, November is creeping up fast. If I get over to any of these places in the next six days, and any copies are left, I'll pick up some for wanting EDAs, however, I make no promises. W/o a car, it's such an inconvenience leaving campus, you have absolutely no idea. This isn't NYC. If you're a pedestrian, you're screwed, basically. One of these stores, however, sounds familiar, and I think it may just be a short walk from here. I'll see what I can do. - -Matt, The Philosopher Angel Exposure Magazine is available for free across South Florida. It was a cold evening and I was waiting in front of the "Villa Berg"-Studio in Stuttgart/Germany. It was one of Jewel's badly attended European concerts, but it was sold out anyways because of the many press-people who went there. So I was the only person who waited for her outside. And then she came, walked ast me and I couldn't believe it. I said "Jewel?" and then the young woman, I was so surprised, actually turned around and said "Hi". It also tells you how you can get tickets to that show and the rest of the tour...it seems relatively easy actually and its at all the major cities in the UK. It had a piccie of the cast from RWTD and it said something along the lines of..'playing the innocents getting wisdom through hardship and horror, is a suberb young ensemble led by Skeet Ulrich, singing star Jewel and Tobey Maguire who cut a romantic dash with touching conviction..' One of them was explaining that her cousin went to Interlocken with Jewel. I was a little dissapointed when she explained that Jewel was a stuck up you know what. I have a hard time accepting that.. Anyway, I asked her to get the yearbook from her cousin.. not that I didn't believe her at all... And there Jewel was.... It is just kinda neat that I got to see that actual yearbook from Jewel's senior year. Just a little something interesting to share.. Cindy Lee will be venturing into the strange & hilarious world of Michelle Domingue by reading from her new book "Memoirs Of A Female Messiah" at Ducky Waddles Emporium & Bookstore at 414 North Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas, CA. Thats November 6th at 7:00PM. (The bookstore is adjacent to Lou's Records.) I'm also looking for someone with a reliable camcorder who would be into videotaping this performance for CLB's archive. If you can help with this, please contact me directly at ABershaw@aol.com. I'll make sure you can bring your equipment in & have power if needed. Copies of CLB's book will, of course, be available & she'll be happy to personalize them for ya. She also said she'll be playing a few songs. SoCal folks should make a point to come out, show your support & enjoy this event! Wish I could join ya! So one year ago, they already know which of the songs are going to be the singles..and by they I mean the people from Atlantic...when I first heard the CD I never thought Jupiter would be a single, do you think that Jewel knew at that time, that a new version of Jupiter would be recorded ? because the Jupiter version on the album couldn't have been a single, I love that version too, but you know, it's like a lot of great Jewel songs which could never be a single... and does anyone know who is the director of the Down So long video ? take care Emilie http://www.multimania.com/stevepoltz ICQ #44198706 AOL IM : Emilie EDA ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Oct 1999 18:44:49 EDT From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: * AOL site for Jewel's "Joy" album Hey dudes for all those who have AOL there is a new AOL site up today for the new album "Joy". they have 5 30 second sound clips from the CD (Ave Maria, Winter Wonderland, O Holy Night, Joy to the World and Hands christmas version) up right now but it should be updated soon with a review and some new pics (probably from the inlay). Go to AOL Keyword: entertainment then click on the big blue "music" and you'll see the link to this page. (to those that don't know, this site ican be accessed by AOL subscribers only) currently on Amazon's sales rank Joy stands at 190 and surprisingly Life Uncommon stands at 677. without any promotion that seems to be selling quite well.. so that's really good.. especially for the clearwater foundation. i also read that Pieces of You was certified 11 times platinum. the last time it was certified was in March at 9x. it's weird that pieces should be selling faster than Spirit even though pieces isn't on the billboard hot 100. curious. i suppose that includes catalog sales and such. anywayz.. thought i'd share all that steve ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Oct 1999 20:08:50 EDT From: Kalen81@aol.com Subject: * I taped it. It has taken just six years for her nomad days of living in a van with her mother to transform into a luxury career rig tooling down a four-lane highway of artistic expression. She tours the world singing to packed arenas, models fashionably, writes best-selling poetry ("A Night Without Armor") and has been quick to put her resources and talent to use for humanitarian causes. At the top of her creative game, Jewel has managed the feat of keeping an open heart. The latest expression of her sharing spirit arrives gift-wrapped on a new CD called Joy: A Holiday Collection. In it she serves up a baker's dozen of Yuletide musical chestnuts ranging from a pure "Silent Night" to a jaunty romp with "Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer." It also features a medley combining the classic "Go Tell It On The Mountain" with her own "Life Uncommon" and the song Bette Midler made famous, "From A Distance." It's not surprising that a wintery theme should appeal to Jewel, since she spent most of her life growing up in Anchorage, Alaska -- home of the brave, land of the cold. Hers was a musical family. She learned to yodel expertly from her father and she discovered the intimate beauty of vocal harmony from her singing mother, Nedra. A life-changing experience happened when Jewel was "adopted" into an Ottawa Indian group and was allowed to participate in sacred tribal ceremonies. There, her confidence that she had gifts to share with the world was sparked in a way that has since been realized. Jewel focused on voice classes with opera training and also studied art, writing and dance. She even landed the lead in a college campus production of "Spoon River Anthology." In the early '90s, Jewel moved to San Diego with her mother and worked as a waitress. Soon she began playing regular gigs at a coffeehouse where she would tell stories and sing songs in what were sometimes 3-hour sets. Then she got a chance to perform with a band called The Rugburns, where she met her sometime writing partner Steve Poltz. It wasn't long before the ripples of her growing popularity eventually blossomed into a recording contract. She has since released three studio albums. She recently added professional acting to her list of credits, playing a role in the Civil War epic Ride With the Devil, directed by Ang Lee. Jewel has also taped an upcoming Yule-themed PBS special edition for its ongoing musical performance series, Sessions at West 54th, which will air on TV throughout December. As an added good deed in keeping with the season, Jewel issued a not-for-profit single of her "Life Uncommon" song with all proceeds donated to the Clearwater Project, which helps poor people get access to clean water. Like Jewel, it is a warm sentiment in a sometimes-chilly world. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #640 ***************************
