I loved it...i would go into detail about it but I would sound like the obsessed fan that I prolly am ... It was great... She looked great, she sang great, she was a smart-ass, and.... well, it is the first time I got exiceted about seeing her on tv since I saw her in concert this summer... I had friends over, and had to explain my moans of joy... (and when I started arguing with the tv when she almost said that she was born in Alaska... and they all laughed at me!!) I admit, I would have loved to have seen this interview with other EDAs (Luna, amber, amias!!!) Anyway, the show is still on, so...... sweet water and light laughter.... Thanks to all who came out to SLAMfest on Saturday, and the pre-show gathering. Ok, and the 2pm Sunday breakfast too. :) If you didn't already hear, it was a benefit for the EveryDay Angles Foundation. Being the promoter, I have to say it went alot smoother than the last SLAMfest. The bands rocked, the food was good, and the EDA's and general crowd were really cool. S.L.A.M. stands for Support for Local Artists and Musicians, and we also are in search of more writers to review concerts and CD's, regardless of where you live! I will mail Cd's out to you (for free), and e-mail you a list of concerts in your area. We were talking about Jewel, and why the public doesn't seem to take to her as well as apposed to Brittany Spears, or Backstreet Boys. And she said something that I've been chewing over in my mind. Jewel has the great potential to become a great big superstar, if she does it Hollywood's way. And she has refused to thus far. She has remained true to herself from the beginning. Yes, she could sell out, and make more "FG and YWMFM" like songs, but she chooses to do what her heart bids her to do. She gets activated in worthwhile causes, and supports them with singles, but, it's not highly advertised as such. It seems to me, that a lot of stars get involved with causes for the benefits they can receive, not the abused children, or the homeless teenagers, or the common good for humanity. They do commercials, attach there names to the organizations, etc. Jewel on the other hand, said at netaid, to buy her single to support Clearwater project. And that is all that I've seen so far. She didn't make a big deal that she's a supporter. She just asked for our help, to help ourselves, and left it at that. That is why I love Jewel, not because she wore this, or looked tired. But because she does what her heart tells her is the right thing to do. And then, doesn't go out of her way to get acclaim for doing so. I appreciate everything Jewel has to share with us, because, I am a lot like her, I can relate to her. I can understand where she is coming from. And I ask of her no other from her than to be herself. To remain true to the heart that has lead her to the lime light, the same very heart that lead her to her van. I like that. I loved when the showed the movie clip, this is something that none of us have seen before from her and it looks like she can act pretty good! Can't wait 'til the movie comes out...what can't she do?? I relate to the part when she said that she gets bored very easily with things that's why she tried something different like acting. She was super funny when she was talking about how she got picked for the role, she said that the director told her she had period teeth and that's why he picked her LOL. later...and have a great day y'all Lucky Dog Angel.. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Oct 1999 22:01:54 +0100 From: Debbie Subject: * just jewel site Hi all Ok, so my site just jewel will be offline for a month now......change of plan, it needs to be updated, relinked etc etc & I also need a new internet account to be able to have 2 URL's one for the Steve Poltz page & one for the Jewel page. She'll also be chatting again on Thursday, November 8th on the Alloy website. I'll have the Alloy timing for ya soon. Check the website calendar periodically for accurate updates. Subject: * Kilborn review OK so this was better than Leno, but that was to be expected as Craig actually talks to the performers some...what a concept. Even before they perform. Jewel looked alright and was being her normal self. The only thing I noticed she said that wasn't true was that she was born in Missouri. Where did she get this from? Anyway, after Craig told her he thought she was born in Alaska, she then corrected herself saying she was actually born in Payson, Utah. Which we all know is still wrong, as it was really Payson hospital (I forget what town that's in). List Moderator Note: she was born in St. George, Utah But anyway, all in all, it was ok. The 5 question thing was silly, they could have given her tougher questions. I liked the fact she played big blue. I thought that guitar was retired (since it was too difficult to travel with)? Maybe not. I liked the fact that she was solo...that's always better. She seemed comfortable with things...especially with that being her first time on his show. It was funny (and very ironic) how she played on the movie title setting up the movie clip saying it was of her "Riding the Devil". Ironic since just yesterday I stated that her "healthy" stomach just means more cushion for the pushin'. So I'd give this appearance about a 7.5 out of 10. Which is extremely high for anything in 1999. Looking forward to seeing the video. LuV Skye The Fumbling Angel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Oct 1999 21:29:21 -0500 From: Khanh Duong Subject: * Jewel on Craig Kilborn(whatever it's called) Man, it was such a great show! She was so friggin funny and cute and gorgeous and beautiful and wonderful! She was soooo funny on that show! If I can make up a transcript, i will. The version of WSIT she sang was even better(in my opinion) than Leno's. She did it solo too(yayyyy!). They talked about Joy and the songs, and how she wrothe Silent Night and Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer. Then, the guy had her read this really funny poem, and they talked about her movie, and showed a clip. She was supposed to set it up, but the looked at the camera and goes"Umm, set it up, ok, setup?" Then the guy said she was supposed to describe the character. She goes"Ohh, I got the chick part, I'm the lead female, and umm, I sleep with guys, and I'm trying to get this guy to marry me" The clip is her and some guy in front of this house and she turns to him and says"So, you wanna marry me?" Dude, man, hes so retarded, hell, I'll marry her, ok, off the subject, he says"Nope, nope, too bad". The Jewel looks kinda angry and goes" Well, I wouldn't marry you for a wagon full of bricks" in this really country accent. They came back after the commericial and asked her 5 questions. Ok, Question 1: If Alaska is the larget state, whats the second largest? Of course, Jewel being the smart person she is, answers with Texas. Question 2:Cream soda or strawberry (umm, stuff, i forgot that part). She said creme soda. Question 3: he asked for 3 singers or artists that have one word names. The said 10, catergorized by 60's and 70's female singers(I forget what she said), Rappers: Coolio, Eve, Eazy-E, I forgot the other, and umm, sissy boys that wear high hels and make up, and she said: Liberachi(that's what it sounds like), silvester, and prince. Question 4: Use the words "Jew" and "well" in a sentence. Being so bright, she said" Jewel went to the well". Then he said it was "Jew", so then she looked at the cards and goes"Jew, oh, hahaha(in that sarchastic laugh of hers)" and said "The jew went to the well" Then, question 5: Will you sing for us? She said "yes" and had this kinda "duh" look on her face. So the grabbed Big Blue and sang WSIT. Man, it was a great one. I hope she does more long interviews in the future, becauseI really enjoyed it, and anyone that missed, shame on you! Try to get a tape. Oh, I know I missed out on some things she did, so if you would be kind enough and fill that in those who saw a remembered it. ok, bye angels! ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #638 ***************************
