["Carolyn Lake" > Well, there's a good reason for that! It's because Jewel is nowhere near NYC tomorrow & was never scheduled to be on that show. Why is it advertised everywhere? Beats me... The only outside chance (& I doubt this, too) is that Jewel taped several interviews for NBC weeks ago & perhaps they could be airing one of those. You can always watch or tape it to be 100% sure. Jody Applegate is kinda cute, so it shouldn't be too painful if a Jewel segment doesn't air on this show. ;-) Now, onto all the "WSIT" info. As I announced earlier this week, a new single for "What's Simple Is True" will be released tomorrow. For now, its a radio single only & it should begin getting airplay beginning Monday. You should be able to request it then & have the stations know what you're requesting. This version is the same version that will be on the "Ride With The Devil" movie soundtrack CD which is released on Thursday, November 23rd. And yes, it'll be released on Atlantic. On Tuesday Jewel shot the new video for it & as I also previously mentioned, that's now in post-production. This video was shot outdoors in a canyon in Los Angeles with Matthew Ralston (Jupiter & YWMFM) producing. Subject: * Net Aid on TNT Wow, looks like I'm the first person to post about this! Kind of surprising. Anyway, what did everyone think about the broadcast last night? I had this strong feeling the one song they'd pick to show of Jewel would be Hands. So now I think that was my 23rd (or maybe 24th) live taping of her performing that song...will it ever end??? You'd think they would have shown Jupiter or What's Simple is True (if she played those) since those are her latest singles...but that's the media for you. Guess there's not much to say about it really...the orchestra added an interesting twist to the performance. Jewel seemed content...and I liked the part in the beginning where it showed her dancing and singing briefly with Bono of U2...that was different. She sure stood out in the crowd though...wearing that light blue top...with everyone else wearing darker colors...and of course her dancing was different from all others. In other areas of the show, I thought the Corrs performed well, and enjoyed Sheryl Crow's performance as well..she seemed to have the most energy of all the acts. And it was cool seeing the Robinson brothers (from the Black Crowes) up there on stage with Jimmy Page. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Oct 1999 14:56:03 EDT From: Fairy2884@aol.com Subject: * RELIGION....give it up all ready! ok wait. don't yell yet! i'm just saying....i have no concern in jewel's religion...i like her music, who she is, etc. who cares what religion she is. so ya know what i've been doing? ignoring the religion posts! god people. don't complain about everyone discussing her religion, if you don't care or don't want to hear about it....then ignore it! it's that simple. xoxoxo Amanda ~the angel with the screwed up teenage life....but adult perspective on stupid people~ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Oct 1999 13:50:44 -0500 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: * Touring? Does anyone know/has anyone heard anything about Jewel possibly doing a mini tour in support of her new Christmas CD? I know she's making the rounds with the media, so I was curious to see if she would be doing the same for her fans...at least on a smaller scale than her Spirit tour was. I checked the web page and there's nothing there regarding this info yet but I'd think if plans were in the works for this to happen, then "someone" knows right now...time is running out since the release date is less than a month away. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Oct 1999 14:57:42 EDT From: "Greg Butler" Subject: * Jupiter at CDnow Hi all, Some people (like myself) might enjoy this information. I love the single, it's a pity that there is only one song on it though. My two cents on the religion discussion. I think we are allowed to discuss Jewel's religion. She expresses it in her music and in her poems. I think she is christian. She told she was a Christian to Oprah Winfrey anyway in a show a long time ago. Anyway I think that we should discuss her religion but that we should refrain from saying we think that she's only that religion I think her music is open to interpretation. And we definitely shouldn't write to the list that we don't like her being christian or the other way around. I think we should try to prevent insulting people which has evidently happened. I agree with the EDA that said that all denominations lead to the same way, I even think that Catholics, and all other Christian denominations and the Islam and the Jewis Religion all pray to the same god. So there is no reason to disagree about the message of Jewel in her poetry and songs. They're so awesome! Today I got, as I'm sure many of you have, a new JMerch folded catalog and a thank you note from Jewel printed on a postcard. The postcard is the same as the picture that comes in the frame available for sale at the store. The catalog showcases all of the new Spirit tour merchandise and is set up really nice.. It has some nice pictures of Jewel, too.. A silhouette of her playing guitar, an iamge from the DSL vid.. Very nifty.. I hope JMerch keeps their excellent work up.. Here's what the note from Jewel says: Hi, As the Spirit World Tour winds down, I want to say thanks. I really rely on the encouragement from your letters, phone calls, and e-mails. Believe me, during this frantic year, your support has really motivated me. To those of you at my shows, thanks for coming out! Your presence makes such a difference in my life! (And there's a preprinted Jewel signature with a drawing of a heart with wings) I think anyone who entered the giveaways, sent fan mail, or made their address known to the J-Team at any point should have gotten this package. I agree with Barry and Amias. I think Jewel is extremely spiritual, but not Christian in the usual sense. She has said she finds God everywhere. (Of course, I also have a tape where she says "I don't believe in God"!). I think (and, yes, it's only an opinion) that her philosophy on religion is like that of the books Conversations With God where the message is that God is me and you and everyone and everything. There is no seperation; we are all one. I also think Mike Gray is mistaken in his interpretation of the following line from "Do You".... > Is it the Jewel who seemed to > suggest that she was sceptical about God ""God kills children with our very > own hands," or As children we are told that from god we fell." - or does she > genuinely believe that "We are God's hands"? The line is not skepticism about God, nor is it contradictory with the other two lines he cites. It's actually skepticism about people and their thoughts on/relationship to God. Look at the whole line....We shake our fists and say, "Well good golly we're mad That God kills children with our very own hands" We claim innocence and not to understand Or do we, do we?....What she's saying (I think) is that people are always looking to blame things on someone or something other than themselves. So rather than looking at the situations in our society and taking responsibility for them, we say "look what God has done"! That way we don't have to do anything about it, other than gripe and complain, because, after all, it's not OUR fault! At the same time, where she says "we are God's hands; we are God's eyes..." it's in the same vein of us being that sort of physical manifestation of God. At the site you can purchase an HGH Tshirt, HGH Sticker & the Life Uncommon CD for $15 total with all proceeds going to Clearwater Project. You can find this special along with lots of HGH information at: http://www.highergroundhumanity.org And speaking of great projects, for a possibly enlightening glimpse at many of the great projects that many of your fellow listmembers are involved in, I highly encourage you to take a little surf to the EDAF website and have a look at the book of humanitarian adventures that EDAs contributed to. The original was given to Jewel at the beginning of the US Tour as a slightly belated birthday gift from the EDAs. You can now view an electronic version of this online at: www.edaf.org/kindness/edakbook.html Enjoy the weekend, Alan ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #615 ***************************
