The Philippine Daily Inquirer, which is the country's number one broadsheet, had a NetAid feature right under the headlines(which I really didn't care about at this point). The biggest picture showed Jewel singing with Bono. It irked me that her comments weren't included in the article. However I did catch her on a CNN news item on NetAid. She spoke about not really knowing what to do in the past ("What could I do? Join GreenPeace?") and being grateful that now she knows what to do. I have not posted here in a while... I wonder if anyone out there remembers me? Ahem, down to buisness...Well, I was gone all of Saturday and set my VCR to start rollin' at 12 cause that's what the commercials kept saying...then I pop the tape in today and have to fast forward through 3 hours of SNL!!!! Anyways, Jewel was incredible! She could sooo give Maria or Celine a run for their money, but she's a nice girl, right? We're gonna need a Titanic 2 theme from SOMEWHERE, right? Now some of you complain that Jewel didn't get enough songs, agreed! I would have cried if she did YWMFM or something. But....how about our irish buddy, Bono? If it weren't for him Net Aid wouldn't be here brotha! Well maybe it would...i dunno, he played a humongous part...but, he got one song (the song was ''One'', no pun intended...well okay maybe) and alright maybe ''New Day'', but that's practically the theme song for Net Aid. When you have the lead singer of the biggest and best band in the world (I can smell the burning of flames already!! I dare you, go for it!) and a 30-peice orchestra at your disposal, you gotta make use of it! AHh why am I talking about Bono on the Jewel list, lol. Well speaking of both of them, did you see Bono and Jewel singing together?? Was that cute or what? Anyway, did Jewel have the 30 peice orchestra? I couldn't tell...although she could have went out there with a Banjo and I would have been happy. Okay I'm imagining a Banjo version of YWMFM...slap me now. Anyway, was it just me or was the coverage on Vh1 sporadic?? You have a bit of THIS song, half of another one... Well, such is life. We got to see Jewel, isn't that enough? Well I've chewed up enough of your time, so byebye for now! Yo, it's the really annoying angel you guys haven't heard from in a long time... miss me? Eh, i thought not. Anyways, i just wanted to inform you all about a lovely little excursion a couple of us north carolinian EDAs had over this weekend, with a lot of nifty twists and turns that nobody saw coming (twists are like that) and some other nice little things. For all of you who scan through the digest like the bad little rat race EDAs you are, you might have missed seeing Rebecca Smith plan out a great little concept: go clean up the Wrightsville Beach! Make the coasts a little nicer to look at. It all started out one Saturday afternoon, when Nathan, the van living EDA - he lives in a van, and no this is no rip off of the Jewel lifestyle, it was HIS idea; she probably ripped it off from him, who knows - came by my place in Wilmington to pick me up. The plan was to meet at Rebecca's house for netaid, the huge event that gave a pretty tiny amount of coverage to Jewel (fooey on them, i say) and pizza and some other stuff... like really bad late night movies with white wine that put us all to sleep. But this was a good thing. We were nice and rested for the next day, you know. Anyways, gracias to Rebecca for being kind and gracious (or naive and too trusting? you be the judge) to lend us her place to stay. Your floor is mighty comfy. :) And if you find anything broken it was all hannad (i know i'm spelling your name wrong). He gets surprisingly violent at night, it's quite a sight. So Rebecca has these dogs let me tell you... first there's the scruff, i forget his name. He's fun, he's got a tongue like Gene Simmons from KISS, it goes every where. Then there's sanada (spelling?). You'd never be able to tell that big gold lab is a stray, she hardly moves. Really sweet dog, if you're ever in the neighborhood and feel like nabbing somebody's dog, nab that one. It's a nice one. And Elton the cat who sat on my book while i was trying to read. Smart cat. He got the attention he wanted. But that's just cuz he pretty much left me alone the rest of the time. Just a warning for future EDAs Nate's allergic to cats, he sneezes til he's practically bleeding from the nose, poor guy, so you gotta ground your kitties to one room if he stops by. I know he'll appreciate me sharing that with everybody. Anyways, so enough about Becca's pets, let's talk about the other animals: Nathan McCormick, the NC state student, he's the gorilla, then Becca's like the puppy dog, except she takes jujitsu, nasty martial art, then i'm like the cat, i guess, and hannad (who i'm going to call duke boy now cuz i know i'm spelling his name wrong) was the mouse. We sleep at Becca's (very nice place i might add), wake up the next morning, eat a BUFFET breakfast (woo hoo!) head out to the beach. We were supposed to meet (ah i forget her name too...) the 14 year old EDA but i guess you could say she's the chameleon cuz she sure hid well, we didnt' find her. So we spent maybe a good hour or two cleaning Wrightsville Beach which is pretty hard to do, actually, cuz it's already decently clean. We found a lot siding and roof shingles... broken pier wood... a brick... some dog doo doo... electric underground wiring... a dead bird... but Becca gets the crown for finding a (hummmm) golden cup. Which she gave to the photographer who took a good group photo shot of us. Eh, she deserved it. After that a little tour of downtown Wilmington where Becca promised us we'd meet the entire cast of Dawson's Creek. We were stoked, but not too disappointed when none of them appeared, i dunno how Becca was planning on conjuring them up anyway. So we hung out in record stores where, thanks to the ill restraint of my companions, i spent all my money on music (can't be helped), but Nate picked up some cool stuff. We ate in a nice little mexican restaurant, where Nate showed off his brilliant espanol (so brilliant in fact not even the native mexicans understood it). And then we said our sad goodbyes, which Becca forced us to do in hugs. Very affectionate one, she is. I even had to hug Nate and Duke boy. I'll recover. All in all a grooving little time, i honestly must say i can't wait until our next gathering. More people better show up too dammit!! We missed all y'alls. Oh and yes, cannot forget: For some amazing stunning skills in photography which capture such things as: - - my really stupid faces - - nate's amazing gymnastic skills - - hannad's stunning model poses - - becca at the beach (gotta love that alliteration) check out scott, another north carolina EDA, his website which he will be building just for this event, which i hesitate to call historic, but i will say memorable. I haven't quite got the URL yet... bug me, or better yet, bug Becca for it, or even Nate, they keep more updated with this sort of thing. I tend to just clown around i guess. I don't pay attention to stuff much. Learn more about us and join us... join us... it'll be cool. Next up is the movie premiere in Charlotte, i do believe, around december, early on. If i'm lucky i might be able to get a few peeps in free, but don't count on it. I'll look into it though. Also keep stuff in mind for us to do in the future, if you're a local EDA. Look for volunteer events in your area, community events, that sort of thing. Anything a good natured EDA or Jewel would appreciate or go for. Nate came up with the idea of doing some sort of donation thing for Clearwater, perhaps door to door. Y'know, but anything that's helpful is cool. Alright i apologize for the ramble, i hope you get SOMETHING out of it. I know i did. Lack of sleep. Sheesh. Take care everybody. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Oct 1999 08:23:43 -0400 (EDT) From: alan@jeweljk.com Subject: * jeweljk.com email is back up Hi all, The email addresses at Jewel's website are back up & running. For those who recieved email error messages the past few days when writing Jewel, me or especially customer service at JMerch, please try again & you should have no prolem getting through now. Prior to NetAid & the launch of the new HGH website, we moved all the sites (Jewel, HGH & Clearwater) to a new dedicated server & in that process, a few bugs happenned including the email system going down for a few days. That has been fixed. The upside is that you'll find all the sites working faster & better than ever now. (Steve Poltz content) Hi all..... I have a plea to make to all the Australian's on the mailing lists out there.... During Jewel's tour and subsequent mini solo tour, most of us had the opportunity to see Steve Poltz live for the first time in Australia. I personally found the experience amazing and something I would dearly love to experience again. Steve is slowly but surely gaining exposure in Australia, and when he was here in April it was hoped that he would possibly come back out here towards the end of the year. This doesn't look like happening. Recently I received an e-mail from Catherine, Steve's Australian manager, about the possibility of Steve doing more shows here in Australia. She has asked me to pass this on to every body: "Steve is currently touring the U.S with his own show. At this point in time he will not be returning to Australia due to complications with the record company. He has asked me to request that anyone enquiring about his return to Australia should write a letter to: Tom Enright, Universal Music Australia. he letter should include a request to see Steve back in Australia. The more letters we can get sent, the more likely it is that we can get him back for some shows. Your help in this would be most appreciated - spread the word. " So spread the word I shall. What I propose is for everyone who would like to participate can follow one of two options. You can send your own letter to: Tom Enright, Universal Music, Munns Reserve, Millers Point, NSW 2000 OR alternatively, I am setting up an e-mail address for the purpose of this little campaign, Send your letters to the address and in the first week of November, I will print them out and forward them as a package to Mr Enright. The address is: stevepoltzletters@bti.net.au I will accept submissions after that, but I will send the first lot in the week in November. Thanks everyone for your support....... I hope we can get Steve Back out here soon. regards Phil Edwards P.S. If any one wants some more info.... Please feel free to e-mail me privately. P.P.S Pass this on to anyone whom you think would like to participate. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #607 ***************************
