We were sitting in our 6th row center seats at the Las Vegas Hilton for the special, and it's about an hour into the show: Merle is singing. . .and right to the left of us. . .at the end of the aisle walks down this guy in a plaid garth brooks-like shirt and his cowboy boots and his black cowboy (I had seen some of the emails talking about a "new cowboy" and this "new cowboy" is adorable he looks like he's 22! but he's 30!) anyways. . .I'm enjoying Merle and my aunt goes "isn't that Jewel?" and I look over there and *sigh* my heart skips and I'm like "yes! it's really her" so 2 rows in front of me (perfect viewing angle) is Jewel just sitting there like I was. . .her and ty were holding hands and flirting a lot and she was smiling so much, he was making her happy! I could tell. . .and then Merle called her up from the audience and she's wearing this blue spaghetti strap slip like shirt and her black pants! she looked adorable with her purple eye shadow and red nails! so they sing their songs, and then, after waiting on the camara man to move, she gives him a playful push and pats him on the back before she sat back down with ty.( I enjoy Sliver Wings better than the other one! it shows off Jewel more!) Merle and Bonnie (the sweetest woman I've ever met. . .who sings backup for Merle and is his ex-wife) and the crew were finishing up the show, and Jewel at this point had come back from somewhere and was sitting down, She looked down the aisle and Ty was sitting with his friends, so she looked again, and then sorta sat far down in her chair. Then ty would look at her (maybe to see if she was missing him even though they were only like 5 seats apart) they'd miss each others glance each time, finally people started standing up and they did this cute little look (one would go in front then the other in back of people sorta like they were hiding?) until Jewel said "comeon, hurry up get over here" in a kidding voice and then they ran backstage. Since I'm from Nashville, Tennessee we have friends who are singers. . .so today at the last min we got our Invitation to the after party. . .so we go up there after we walk around and talk with people and down the far hallway was. . .Ty and i was like "oh there's her friend. . .oh wait she's down there too" so I'm wondering what to do. . .and we hang out and talk with more people and then finally Bonnie (whom we know) walks in on Ty's arm and Bonnie's like "these are Mark Collie's friends" or something so we shook hands and then we went over to Jewel and I was like "I really enjoyed Silver Wings" and she said thanks. This really rude lady pushes into our conversation and shoves two Spirit CD's in her face and Jewel says "I'm so tired of this" and then she does it anyways and smiles about it. . .then the lady shoved them back in her face and said "MAKE THEM OUT TO. . ." and said two names. Then. . .She took a picture of Jewel when she wasn't ready. I wasn't sure if it was a good time to get her to sign my frame (the one from the JEWELJK.COM store) but I already had it out and she mainly took it from me and giggled. I told her my name and that i was an EDA, when i said that her eyes lit up and she looked at me and said "oh really, wow that's cool(she giggled here)! make sure you tell them all I said Hi" (so there you go you guys!) then Bonnie was like "lets get a picture" so I go over there by Bonnie and Jewel while people took our photo (hopefully I'll get my webpage up with it soon). . .and then Jewel gave me a hug before her and ty left and I thanked her again and told her I'd get her message to you guys and she was like "don't forget" and giggled. My take on it is that the writers of the Popular show mention her living in a van by the river becaus of the Chris Farley skit where he is jumping around and yelling "I LIVE IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!" As someone who actually lives in a van I never hear the end of this. Every time (It seems like) I tell someone where I live they finish by saying "Let me guess DOWN BY THE RIVER" I get sick of hearing it. Sometimes, I just laught and say "yeah whatever". (Not to be confused with the NOCAL EDAs) We are going to do a beach clean up, of course. It seems like a traditional EDA gathering event now.
