Personally, I don't care for autographs myself and wouldn't ask Jewel for one...however, I would take those few moments where she would've signed an autograph to express how much her music and her ideas have been inspiring to me. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Sep 1999 21:46:41 -0700 From: Bob Fortune Subject: * RE Jewel & CMA awards Well on the plus side, I work with a guy who IS country. He plays it in the warehouse ALL the time and not that crossover country either. Well, he heard her and Merle and he didn't like it. Whew. I mean the expert said he didn't like her so she doesn't have to do it any more, right? I guess maybe I'm grabbing at straws here, huh. Again, I would probably follow her if she started rapping but for now I'm keeping a positive outlook. I'm just wondering what EDA related events your talking about, Jewel never sticks around. If your lucky she may sign a few autographs before she bolts but that's it, the after show "interaction" at storytellers lasted maybe a minute. Jewel's not the stick around and chat type I dont think she ever has been. Trust me sessions was very normal. I think people have this warped idea of what these shows are like, for the most part we're just an audience, Jewel performs she leaves. The only reason she signed anything at Storytellers was cause she got mobed, and had to sign her way out of the room. I dont think there's anything wrong with that, Jewel just dose'nt seem to like crowds. NetAid will be broadcasting live from Giants Stadium in New Jersey as well as London & Geneva locations on Saturday, October 9th. You'll easily be able to tune in on this via TV (both MTV & VH1 are carrying it) as well as radio & the Net. For a lot more information, you can educate yourself at "headline news" at Jewel's website (www.jeweljk.com) & www.netaid.org, the official NetAid website. Also, we now have plans for two upcoming online LIVE CHATS with Jewel. The first will take place on AOL on Monday, November 1st. The second will be done on the Alloy website on Monday November 8th. Mark your calendars! Exact timing details are not yet available, but you'll know when to join in with plenty of time to spare. The commercial is for the "Bits & Baubles" target cd, Jewel is sitting with her blue guitar with a white screen behind her and it starts with her saying she's going to sing a song that she used to sing with her dad when she was young, then she starts singing "Chime Bells" then it cuts to a video of her singing "Chime Bells" with her dad when she was like 8 years old (i wish i saw this =( ) then it has talking... the new limited edition cd from target... then it cuts back to Jewel singing "Chime Bells" still (as an adult) and she says, oh this song's not going to be on the cd, or something like that!!! sorry that's all i know, like i said i unfortunatly didn't get to see it!!! =( Jewel is also in a couple magazines... - - Teen People October 1999 Pg.50 add for ANWA's paperback edition, with new afterword. - - J-14 (Just For Teens) October 1999 little pic on the cover, same pic but bigger on Pg.21,(it's the pic where Jewel's hair is in those knot things) it tells you how to do your hair like her's, for all you guys that were wondering!!! =) - - Collector's Edition - People Weekly 25 Amazing Years Pg.68 there's a few lines about Jewel and the pic of Jewel in the back of her van with her blue guitar $9.99 US $14.99 CAN keep a look out for the Jewel commercial!!! oh, if anyone is interested i have a have the "Ride With The Devil" press conference on tape!!! always, elana === "We compromised our pride, sacrificed our health We must demand more, not of each other, but more from ourselves." - Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Sep 1999 14:04:27 -0400 From: "Kelli Coppens" Subject: * About my "negative" post from sessions Angels, I received some "hate mail" from my "Sessions sucked" post. I would like to clarify myself. I never said anything negative about Jewel and her performance. I thouroughly enjoyed it. What I am upset over is how the staff at Sessions treated us. There are other posts that I've read from last week that completely agree with me on this. If there was not enough seats, then why invite so many. Like someone said in their post, we were used as decoration. Yes, I did have expectations. But, if we were treated with respect and all of us were seated with some kind of decent view; autograph or not; I would have no complaints. I feel very proud of what I did. Amy and I were the only ones who basically said "We are not going to let Sessions make us sit here behind the stage the entire time" and we were brave enough to get up and go back to the crew so we could at least see the monitor. What we did took courage and I am very glad I did. Everyone has their own right to their opinion. But personally, I will NEVER attend any performance at SESSIONS again. - - Kelli *the city angel* ( and a dedicated EDA) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Sep 1999 10:54:26 PDT From: "Eliot Lemoncelli" Subject: * NJC: EDAF activity Hey All, Ive been reading about all these EDAF organized gatherings and would love to participate but the nearest activity has been over 1000 miles away. I live in Florida. Can we have one here? Maybe at Dayona Beach or something. With our two hurricanes(Dennis and Floyd)and now Tropical Storm Harvey in less than 3 weeks our beaches have taken a severe battering. Volusia county, where Daytona Beach is located just asked the Federal Government for 5,000,000 cubic yards of sand to replace the beach lost in the last 3 weeks. Residents along the beach are in need of lots of help. Ok in rambling now.. sorry. If u werent here during the fires last year, signs were up for weeks thanking firefighters for their help. People were donating home cooked food to feed the 3500+ firefighters, and two eight year olds spent 200 dollars they were saving to go to Disney on Water and Gatorade for firefighters. My point is I'd like to get involved and cant make it to the other gatherings. If you can organize a gathering here in Florida there is plenty to be done, much help needed. Much appreciation will be given. Bingo! Many people couldn't go to the taping and it sounds like the people complaining about "not seeing Jewel" had some expectation that they'd get a piece of her somehow and then feel that they have a right to lamblast Jewel for it. Come on guys. Show a little maturity and realize that people still have to live their own lives and still have other timetables to live by. It reminds me of the fanatics who would stand in line for 14 hours to see Brittany Spears at a free appearance and then have the gall to attack Ms. Spears for her cancelling on account of her airplane not showing up because of bad weather. > Nor should we let this topic run > ad infinitum throughout the List, for then our List becomes just like all > the rest, instead of the remarkable Gathering of wonderful Souls it has > become.. (I love to brag) But... I got a new version of A Night Without Armor. "A Special Edition for Younger Readers" Believe it or not, my school still gives out book orders. And right on the front it had ANWA! So I thought that was cool. But basically what it is, is A Night Without Armor minus all of the racy and dirt poems. Which is about half. hehe. There is only 63 pages of poems, rather then 136. But in the beggining there is a mesage from Jewel, that isn't in any other ones. It looks the same, except the front kind of has a big border around the picture of the book, if that makes any sense. Also, it's published by Scholastic, insted of harper collins. My comments only apply to a few & I'm sure they'll know who. ;-) I strongly agree with Albert here, particularly in regard to the PBS performance. "Sessions" was a nice little Christmas songs show. Everyone was told during the invitation signup process that it would be a sneak preview of Jewel's Christmas album. That's exactly what it was (in exact song order even!). Everything promised was delivered. It was also a gift to the EDAs invited. After receiving a gift, whining about it & insulting the giver is not a very endearing quality. And knowing what the gift was beforehand, signing up to receive it & then complaining after you do receive it freely, is... well... time for a little self reflection, no?
