Gee, I knew I had a collectible, but I didn't know it was _that_ collectible; now I don't feel quite so stupid for giving away my two copies of _Save the Linoleum._ (Actually, they went to two very deserving friends.) Back in early 1994, by my records, I saw Jewel twice at the Inner-Change Coffeehouse. (Admission: $4.) I woulda seen her more if I hadn't gotten shut out of that teeny little shoebox. I bought myself a copy of that cassette (ostensibly sold to help buy gas for the van), and with typical foresight I got her to autograph the inside of the J-card. Here's what she wrote, in a black ball-point pen: Scott, Love is like flowers & also like fishes it wiggles and giggles & if she's really groovey [sic] does dishes. Jewel Kilcher (Did that one make it into ANWA?) She must have asked what my name was, since she began the inscription with "Scott." I don't remember any other conversation with her. So what was she like? Humble. Just your everyday coffeehouse chick who plays around town two or three times a week and had presence, great toons, and a voice that could knock your ears off. She was good; everybody could see that. It was obvious. If you'd asked around town, "Could she get a record deal?" the answer was "Heck yeah. She's got talent and there's a lot of attention on this town right now." (There was.) But if you'd asked, "Could she get a deal and go deca-platinum?" the answer would be "Are you kidding? You're on drugs, man." So help me, nobody, I mean NOBODY saw it coming. The cost of posting a t-shirt from Australia to America would be up to half the price of the actual printed t-shirt. There is also the major hassle of figuring out a suitable method of payment, and exchanging currencies. I would still be designing the t-shirts myself (with input from other EDAs), but an American associate would be a tremendous help to me, and a benefit to interested American EDAs. Please contact me if you would be interested in volunteering for this position, and any other EDAs interested in a shirt can write me also. Unfourtunately i didn't get to go (although i drained EVERY POSSIBLE CONTACT to try to get a ticket). however there is some information about other things that might be of interest. Rogers Community Television (cable 10) has 24 hour coverage of the film festival. Jewel is currently in Toronto to promote the movie with Ang Lee, Skeet Ulrich and Tobey McGuire. She is going to be doing an interview today (Saturday) with Christopher Heard (from Reel to Real). This will likely air on the Saturday Edition (6pm and 9pm) or the Sunday Edition (6pm and 9pm). There will also be "red carpet" coverage on a program called Rushes. This will also probably be on the Saturday Edition (which airs at 6:30pm and 9:30pm). Rogers Community Television also has live, unedited coverage of the major press conferences for the different movies. I have absolutely no clue when the one for Ride with the Devil will be on but you can be sure it'll be in the next couple of days. if anybody has any more specific information about scheduling that would be good - this is all mainly speculation. i've been watching rogers all the time. the only thing that's for sure is that christopher heard is interviewing jewel today (saturday) because i saw an interview with him where he stated that specifically. hope this has been helpful! steve ------------------------------ Date: 11 Sep 1999 12:54:04 -0700 From: hugmysoul@mymailbag.com Subject: * Jewel Pics Hello! Well the Press Conference was just held and it was broadcast live. Jewel was there (right in the centre, looking great!) along with Tobey McGuire, Skeet Ulrich, Jeffrey Wright and of course Ang Lee. James Shamus who wrote and produced the film was also there. All the cast answered some questions. Jewel was asked quite a few questons. She was charming and cute as always but looked extremely tired - no wonder. I'm sure this press conference will be repeated TONIGHT (saturday night). I've realised that this message probably won't get to anybody until after 6pm (same with my first message).. and there's no official schedule.. but keep your eye on the listings throughout the night (ch. 5) and watch out for Press Conferences. I believe it was the first of the day. The one following it was the conference for Mumford. cya steve ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Sep 1999 12:48:23 EDT From: Mika911@aol.com Subject: * Australian Pay Per View I see this event was listed on Jewel's calendar at Jeweljk.com: 12 TV(Australia)-Mainstage: Jewel Live In Concert (Australia Pay TV Channel V at 8:30PM EST) Is this event really LIVE or was it taped LIVE? Does anyone know where it was taped at? Also, are there any Australian EDAs who will be purchasing this event with a Hi-fi (preferably) VCR that is American NTSC signal and not Australian PAL. As you may know North America uses a different signal of video than Europe, Austrlia, etc. So if any EDAs could tape this for me on a VCR that records in North American NTSC I would be glad to pay for the tape and postage, or we could make a trade if I have anything you want.
