A guide to the best celeb-run web sites. JEWEL, www.jeweljk.com of all the female rockers, Jewel is easily the most popular with purveyors of faux porn pix and unsubstantiated rumors. At this site, she tries to set the record straight in a "Rumor and Truth section," in which she tells fans she's not dating Jean-Claude Van Damme and, no, she's not smoking a cigarette in her "Peices of You" video. (She's "eating a grape lollipop.") The page also posts Jewel's poetry ("I am not far from here/ My smells of the wind...") and gifts, including an "amber pendant with natural hemp cord." I think it's becoming really ridiculous that an artist of Jewel's talents is so ignored on european tv. That is something totally unacceptable for me, and i am really reckon on you to make the change, this situation is already taking too long. Why can't nobody of the US help us in this matter by the way? So i really want to have your help changing this, by phoning the major european TV companies in Europe such as MTV, Vh1 and more of those kind of broadcasters. It can't be a factor that Jewel doesn't get any AIRPLAY both on radio or tv in europe. I really call you all to be the difference that makes the difference. I can't cope with the fact that we in europe never get Jewel on tv. It so silly that she is continueing being rejected by the tvbosses in europe. We have seen all the videos of Jewel in Europe some how, but this time we don't get a glimpse of the Jupiter video on TV. So i need every help of the fans and we have to start a campaign like i wrote earlier by keep the pressure on them by requesting the video. I can't think why this can't be succesful. So start today, and make Jewel more known in this side of the Atlantic. She really deserves it. Why is Jewel not being helped by us. Let me know if you want to help my campaign. Whoever replied first would be picked. >First Come, first serve, unless perhaps you're under 16... No, that's not exactly what it said, but close :-) It said that MrBB would send on the first 100 filled out replies that he received and send them on to the Sessions At West 54th people. Them, THEY (the Session people) would begin trying to contact the people who's replies they received, and THEY would whittle it down to 50 who would be invited to go: >We're inviting 50 EDAs to be our guests for Jewel's filming of >"Sessions at West 54th" in NYC on Tuesday, September 14th. >(The tickets are FREE & will cost these 50 EDAs nothing.) {snip} > For this particular event, you will need to be available by >phone and/or email the next week or so to be contacted by the >"Sessions" production staff. You will not be able to just "show up" >& get a ticket. {snip} >What I'm going to do is this: > I'm going to put the first 100 names of EDAs who reply by >tomorrow (Monday)evening on a list with their information. The >names of these people will be forwarded to "Sessions" staff. THEY will >personally contact the 50 EDAs (NOT ME!!) & THEY will select the >50 invitees. They will instruct you personally on anything else >you'll need to know when they contact you. If they choose you, >they will of course inform you what time & where to be in NYC on >September 14th for the taping. As far as the age thing, that has me confused too. While the email from MrBB said that applicants had to submit their sex and age with the reply, it did not mention "16 or older". Of course, by now many of us realize that the replies that the invited EDAs have received mention "minimum age 16" or something to that effect, all the while some of them clearly stated in their applications what their ages were, and that being under 16. So it appears that someone on the Sessions end may have messed up. I don't know what to tell you. Perhaps you should write them back, since you have their email address. Good luck :-) Mike :-) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Sep 1999 10:45:59 -0500 From: "oh, give me a break." Subject: * "Fly With Me, Angel" -- Jewel's new song I may be alone in this, but I think that if Jewel released this song, it could have the power to get on the country/folk charts. My mom is a big country fan, and she really liked the song. Anyways, just a thought. By the way, on Storytellers, Jewel mentioned the EDA's sending her Thanksgiving cards. Does Jewel have an address where she can recieve mail? If so please email me because I would like to send her a card thanking her for her inspiration. Also, what happened to the gift the EDA's were going to give her at the last show? Did that happen? Thanks. Both were printed in the September 4, 1999 issue of the US music trade magazine Billboard. - ------------------------------- MERLE HAGGARD For The Record: 43 Legendary Hits PRODUCER: Merle Haggard BNA 67844 In a recording career that has spanned 35 years, Merle Haggard has become a genuine living legend, as both songwriter and artist. His appeal long ago transcended country music itself, and -- like a handful of fellow country artists such as Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson -- he became a veritable musical genre in and of himself. His duets with Jewel on a remake of his 1984 hit "That's The Way Love Goes" and on the lovely "Silver Wings" are examples of a true musical genius reinterpreting his work through his collaboration with an artist you would not expect to find here. Haggard chuckles indulgently when Jewel finds her way into "That's The Way Love Goes," but then their voices intertwine gloriously. Forty- three certified great songs on two CDs totalling 136 minutes -- for once, the word "legendary" applies. MERLE HAGGARD That's The Way Love Goes PRODUCERS: Merle Haggard, Lou Bradley WRITERS: L Frizzell, S.D. Shafer PUBLISHERS: Acuff-Rose Msic BMI BNA 65847 (CD Promo) Talk about deja vu. Not only was this track a No. 1 hit for Johnny Rodriguez in 1974, but Merle Haggard himself covered this pretty Lefty Frizzell/Whitey Shafer ballad and took it to the summit a decade later. And still, it's one of those classic songs that deserves yet another revival. It gets the chance to be heard by a new generation thanks to Haggard's upcoming BNA "For The Record" collection that features 43 of his best songs. Though the project is predominantly Haggard, he's joined on a few tunes by Alabama, Brooks & Dunn, Willie Nelson, and Jewel, who duets on this song. Though it might seem an unusual pairing, it works exceptionally well. In the liner notes, Jewel shows an obvious appreciation for Haggard. She embraces the opportunity to sing with one of her heroes and turns in a stunning performance. Even the most die-hard country traditionalists will be instantly won over by her delicate phrasing and affecting performance. Haggard and George Jones are unquestionably country music's greatest living vocalists, and this fine record shows Haggard's magic is still there. This is one of the outstanding singles of the year with all the elements to be a major hit. Now all country radio has to do is play it, play it, and play it again. - --------------------- Chris.
