I have most of it, but there is one part that's not clear. What I have is (with very rough translation): Per la gloria d'adorarvi, [For the glory of adoring you Voglio amarvi, [I want to/would love you O luci care. [O dear/darling eyes (lit. lights) Per la gloria d'adorarvi, ??. . . are. Amando penero`, [Loving, I shall suffer Ma sempre v'amero`, [But I shall always love you Si`, si`, nel mio penare. [Yes, yes, in my suffering Amando penero`, Ma sempre v'amero`, Si`, si`, nel mio penare. Penero`, v'amero`, luci care. [I shall suffer, I shall love you, darling eyes Penero`, v'amero`, luci care. I would have expected she would be repeating "Voglio amarvi, O luci care" and the beginning does sound a bit like "voglio" but the rest is different, except for "...are" at the end. I just can't make it out -- my ears are getting old and my Italian is very rusty. So, can anyone help me with the missing bits. Perhaps some Italian EDAs? The piece was written by Giovanni Battista Bononcini (or Buononcini) who lived from 1670 to 1747. It is part of the opera "Griselda". I have found two slightly different versions of the lyrics, both of which are different from what Jewel sings on Michiel's tape. If anyone has this song on another tape I would be interested in getting a copy and would be happy to trade. I know Jewel has sung it at some US concerts. But I'm in Australia, so it would be a long distance, air mail trade. Take care, Barry Howarth ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Aug 1999 18:21:10 EDT From: MrBBReply@aol.com Subject: * MrBB-READ ASAP! - Jewel/"Sessions" EDA Studio Audience!! Hi everyone, especially those in the New York/New Jersey/CT area, Here we go again on an EDA Studio Audience!. Pay attention closely! And read this COMPLETE post before replying or you are destined to be disqualified for not following the instructions carefully. Here we go! We're inviting 50 EDAs to be our guests for Jewel's filming of "Sessions at West 54th" in NYC on Tuesday, September 14th. (The tickets are FREE & will cost these 50 EDAs nothing.) For those unfamiliar with this program, it is what I consider one of the best non-commercial music programs in the industry. It airs on PBS stations across North America. This particular program will be unique as Jewel will be performing much of the new holiday album material accompanied by her band AND a string section & chorus. For this particular event, you will need to be available by phone and/or email the next week or so to be contacted by the "Sessions" production staff. You will not be able to just "show up" & get a ticket. I realize many of you will only be able to attend if accompanied by a parent, guardian or friend. If that's the case, the person accompanying you will not be able to participate & will have to wait for you outside. Please be totally aware of this BEFORE replying. What I'm going to do is this: I'm going to put the first 100 names of EDAs who reply by tomorrow (Monday)evening on a list with their information. The names of these people will be forwarded to "Sessions" staff. THEY will personally contact the 50 EDAs (NOT ME!!) & THEY will select the 50 invitees. They will instruct you personally on anything else you'll need to know when they contact you. If they choose you, they will of course inform you what time & where to be in NYC on September 14th for the taping. I realize this isn't accommodating for everyone but that's how it is & time is limited. I'm simply doing the best I can with the parameters given. Understand that & refrain from complaining about it (to me, at least. Complain to others all you like... ;-) To be one of the 50 EDAs to join us, you must first determine 2 things now & then proceed with the instructions. They are simple yes/no answers ONLY. (Do not elaborate with any extenuating circumstances): 1.) Can I DEFINITELY be in New York City on Tuesday, September 14th? 2.) Can I be available for contact via email and phone for the next week or so? Send your 2 answers along with the following information. They need ALL THIS INFORMATION if you want to be considered!!! 1)your full name 2) age & sex 3) phone number (with area code!) 4) best email address to contact you 5) full postal mailing address Send this information to me ASAP at the following address ONLY! MrBBReply@aol.com I am the only one who will have your info & I will not share it for any purpose outside this project. If you forget to include any of the information or you reply to any of my other addresses, you will not be considered for participation, so reply only if you follow ALL the instructions above. Also, I am not at home. I'm in San Diego & I do not have time to answer questions or discuss this further. Its simple. Just follow the instructions. Both previous times we did this in NYC, many people forgot to include all the requested information in their excitement & were deleted unfortunately. So please, DO NOT FORGET ANY OF THE ABOVE INFORMATION!! If you'd enjoy attending the filming & can follow the instructions, we'd love to have you on our guest list! Over the next 48 hours, please realize this is far more insane for me than you, so don't send me questions & just read & follow the instructions carefully now. When the guest list is full, I'll contact your list manager Mike to let all EDAs know. Once you have written in, DO NOT write me again to check status. The 50 people will be contacted by the producers assistants to confirm that they can attend. Once you are confirmed, you'll then be given instructions on where to be & what time to be there. OK. Send the required info to MrBBReply@aol.com now & good luck! I hope many who want to join us can & the rest of you will watch this show on PBS. The performer is playing THAT venue as their concert for the city they mention. They don't care which city they are TECHNICALLY playing in. 'tis of little consiquence. Of course, we'd all like for them to come out and say the real city, but that's not where they're playing for. They're playing for the FANS. Not the city. - -> You're absolutely right here. I live on the East End of Long Island, and whenever I see a concert at Jones Beach, the artists seem to assume that we're all from New York City. The ampitheatre is actually within a State Park on the Jones Beach barrier island, and is sort-of considered to be part of Wantagh, NY, which is a good 15 miles out of even Queens, NY. Besides, what are they supposed to say here? Hello Jones Beach State Park? No one actually lives there, but then again, I bet it's an ever-so-minor percentage who are even from Wantagh - probably an amount of people you can count on your hand. This is a different circumstance than most, but it's clear that when artists say hello, they're saying hello to the entire audience, who are from a general area, not just the one city where the theatre just so happens to be located in. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Aug 1999 19:56:40 -0700 From: "RoseJeide =^-^= Masquerade" Subject: * WPB & Tampa Recording(s) First off, I'm not sure if this is the same concert or not... Actually I'm just really bored and what I like to do when I'm really bored is make up silly ideas for polls. And I've got two of them! You can't imagine my current state of monotony… so here they are: I was just wondering what everyone's favorite Jewel song lines and quotes are. I think, overall, her best quality, as far as musicianship, is her songwriting, lyrics included. Plus she seems like an interesting person. So, in case you're still in the fog, I'll start here… my favorite line of hers, from the song Foolish Games, is "You were always the mysterious one/With dark eyes and careless hair/You were fashionably sensitive/But too cool to care". Yeah, I know it's not an exceptionally brilliant line, but it really just strikes a chord with me. I have my own opinions, too. :P As for my favorite quote, it would probably be the one I read in some interview along the lines of "I want to sing until no one feels alone any more." You interview buffs please correctly me as pleasantly as possible. Does anyone besides myself think it's odd that Jewel is even associated with Tommy Hilfiger? Granted, it's related to charity in some manner (I confess, I'm kinda in the dark about this whole corporate dealing), but Hilfiger has a slight reputation… for starters, there's the Oprah episode where Oprah confronted Mr. Hilfiger about some public comments he made in regards to his feelings towards minorities purchasing his products (needless to say, it was unfavorable). To which he confirmed and was consequently asked to leave the show. Then there are the sweat shop allegations… actually, I don't know much about that, but from what I gathered they were more than mere allegations… anyways, I was curious as to everyone else's thoughts on this. Oh and a few unsolicited and unashamed little plugs for some bands I am guessing few of you know, but are brilliant nonetheless: Jimmy Eat World, Mineral and Joshua. Word of mouth is often the best mode of advertisement, so here I am, offering my juvenile ten cents. Those bands are awesome, please give them a listen if you get the opportunity. Actually, there are a lot more bands I'd like to speak up for, but I'm not certain how Jewel fans would take to them… Do we all need Angel names or something? If so, call me the Daydream Angel… if that's not taken… if it is, well then let Mr. Daydream Angel give me a time and place we can duke out rights for the name cuz I want it. If it's a Ms or Mrs Daydream Angel then I guess I'm screwed. I just hope nobody has that name, if we even need a name. Okay, I'm rambling, that means it's time to go… ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Aug 1999 03:13:16 GMT From: "~* cymbaline *~" Subject: * Tampa again hey, well someone posted about jewel being kinda puzzled when people cheered in recognition of Grey Matter. Well when she was saying songs she wrote w/ Steve, she mentioned "Daddy She's a Goddess" I cheered, and so did a few people in the back, and she was like "It's about Hillbillies who kidnap a woman because they're tired of kissing their sister! I bet you feel stupid now!" I guess she forgot that people taped shows way back when... lol ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Aug 1999 23:14:19 EDT From: Truedrm007@aol.com Subject: * wpb show hey everyone well this is only my second time writing ...i went to the west palm show and i thought it was awesome. i was wondering if anyone had gotten it on tape and would be willing to make me a copy and send it to me i would really appreciate it. also i was wondering if anyone has a wal-mart near them that has the jewel poster who would be willing to get me one that i would pay u for... thanks a alot angela ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Aug 1999 23:37:39 EDT From: JewelLovr@aol.com Subject: * Fwd: Just Some Info First of all, I found a biography of Jewel. It is called "Jewel - Pieces of a Dream," it is by Kristen Kemp. It is published by Pocket Books, ISBN# 0-671-02455-8. Amazon.com does have this book. This book told me some things that I didn't know about Jewel. I recommend this book to all EDA's. Second, HBO has been playing Clueless(1995) with Alicia Silverstone this month, and towards the end of the movie the song All By Myself is playing. The neat point to this is Jewel is singing this song. I don't watch TV much, unless it has Jewel on it. I know, I wasn't at Jewelstock and I know it was awesome, but of the 5 shows I have seen- this one was smiply killer- Common Ground benefit- Hospitality Point, San Diego I think this was at the end of her tour in 1997. If you ever have a chance to see a show at Hospitality Point- go there - simply beautiful. It is a small outdoor theater area with water (like ocean bays)on both sides of it. Before the show you can walk around and check out boats or whatever. In front of the stage, they had rows of folding chairs set up, and farther back, places where you could just sit or stand on the grass. (it didnt slope like most arenas lawn seats, but were talking much smaller here). Steve played first, an unannounced (but semi expected) surprise. Then Jewel came out. I had though she might be a bit down because her horse had recently died in a freak accident, and plus she had a cold- but she was totally happy and radiant thaat night. She came out dressed to kill in an all black silk suit and a white cowboy hat. She seemed so relieved to be back home and talked and and told funny stories several times between songs. The setlist- awesome!!!!- near you always don't everything breaks sometimes little sister pieces of you (stranger) enter from the east sometimes it be that way the face of love (sung with mom nedra- totally cool) fragile flame daddy im sensitive deep water old lovers house my body is changing satellite down so long wwsys lmjlma down dancing barefoot (patty smith) morning song carnivore ywmfm foolish games (awesome version- her face looked like she wanted to kill somebody) angel standing by (dedicated to princess d i and mother teresa who had recently passed) amen including the 2 songs she sang with steve- 28 songs what a killer setlist!!!!!! peace out- lone wolf, barry, jeopardy, heineken, i drink like poltz, hate the backstreeters and n sync , will cut down on my nicknames next time angel ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Aug 1999 20:55:50 -0700 From: "Ziebell Family" Subject: * here comes angelfood Here it is, an offer... im handin' out my tapes (sort of).
