Anyhow there where turn of events that made this one of the most memorable concerts ever. I had been to a Jewel concert when she was touring for POY but this was just awesome. The concert started at 7pm on the dot Eastern Time US. All day long I had been waiting and chilling. Wondering if my guitar was gonna get in! So finally I left my house around 5:30pm and got my ass down the Turnpike took Okeechobee then to Sansbury. It was bout 6:25 pm er something when I got near my destination. The moment arrived as I looked up at the lil Coral Sky Amphitheatre knowing that in all glory I was gonna get to see the best performer on this damn near awesome Earth. When I got in I had a hassle bout my camera and my guitar so I had to leave it in my car. Security was tight knit there but they where very nice folks compared to other concerts I have been to. Anyhow I signed this little survey so I could get free tickets to a concert coming up there : ) : ). I made my way on over to the lil Levi's stage and to know avail I met an EDA he was pretty cool. Did not catch his name but he was wearing a BIG ASS BLUE EDA Jewel shirt. It was nearing around 6:45pm so I got on down to my nosebleed seats : ( : ( . They where Second Level, Section 6, Row EE, Seat 21 All the way last row before the damn lawn chairs. Anyhow I had big screens to see and also I could see straight down the middle to the big screen where Jewel was spotted the whole concert! First off "Rusted Root" came out and they where AWESOME! Not as awesome as Steve er Jewel, but damn near good! After 45 minutes of the african type percussion and acoustic...STEVE POLTZ the man himself came onstage and did this lil deep voice Steve coming on stage thing. It was cool. Then here is what he played 1. Kiss My Ass 2. Chair Song (Changed it for us Floridians like Gators game and Marlins) 3. Golds Gym Guy Song 4. Everything About You 5. Silver Lining 6. It was like a song bout hockey with Football terms 7. ABC's song 8. Little Red Corvette w/ the Liz Berlain (Is that how you spell it?) 9. Star Wars song (Awesome SONG) Steve was just cool and then Doug came out and started playing his mad riffs and licks! : P Sucks though Steve was cool but he did not get to play long at all! He played for 30 minutes er something I wish he could have played a bit longer! Anyhow the stage got quiet and I had to get some water so I got some and came back....it was bullshit that I didn't meet any other EDA's there though : ( only met one and I didn't even know he was going! Finally it got really dark and a green light came on. Some jackass with a laser kept shaking that crap all over the screen. Guess they found him.... Well Jewel whupped ass with her first song! Here is the setlist 1. Near You Always 2. Deep Water 3. Whats Simple Is True 4. Hands, This song had four different intros and it was just awesome, 1. If I could tell the world just one thing, It would be that I just went surfing 2. If I could tell the world just one thing It would be that I have a bit of a belly 3. If I could tell the world just one thing It would be that Steve Poltz does NOT have a belly, Show them your belly Steve 4. If I could tell the world just one thing It would be that this is the last show on my tour 5. Jupiter 6. You Were Meant For Me It was cool when Steve whupped out his version "Stab the yolk with my god damn fork, I can't believe your taking me to court!" Then Jewel started it her way the way we all know and love. Now everytime they had the chorus Steve and Jewel would do the cutest thing and sing cheek to cheek. (I am a guy and all but that's just cool when ya do that) Then she pulled this lil thing like she was gonna kiss him and she didn't. 7. I do not have a clue 8. Cold song (Do you wanna catch a cold with me? : p) 9. Carnivore 10. Barcelona 11. Life Uncommon (She said she was gonna preach to us so then she started like preach - singing) 12. Foolish Games 13. Down So Long 14. Down 15. New Song 16. LMJLMA 17. WWSYS- (Seductive dance that had the crowds roaring, Scat Style that can only be mentioned as F--king AWESOME, She did it WAY longer than usual, then Dougs riff between Jewel and himself was awesome!) ENCORE 18. Absence of Fear 19. Someone passed up here book and she read a poem like "God something" I don't remember and I do not feel like getting up to get the book right now! 20. Chime Bells- My god she did this awesome! I have heard it before but this time she did this like super sonic yodel! It was just great. Well freaky thing is that some jackass threw up a firecracker near the right section! Section 2 that is. It wasn't near Jewel er anything but it freaked everyone out. Another thing where the girlz next to me. They where screaming pretty loud there. It was the kinda screaming that you get when you have 13 yr old girls at TRL er a BackStreet Boys, N' Sync, er 98 Degrees concert. Also something cool is that Jewel was dissing Britney Spears, N' Sync, and 98 Degrees. It was cool!!!! Cuz I hate boy bands! Anyhow I had the best night of my life even though my girlfriend couldn't be there! Jewel's tour bus left quick so there was no damn chance in signin my guitar.. ARGHHHH! I promised I would get a signature on my Sigma Martin & Co. for the folks at my cafe! ARGHHHH! Heh I saw Danny there ur friend Jeremiah wasn't there if ya read this! You guys rock the friggin mic at the Coffee Beanery! Keep rocking too, oh Jeremiah your sister got a sweet ass voice. Now I had to go home!!! Damn nice night...Hope ya like my Concert Review!!!!! - -- If I could tell the world just one thing it would be That we are all ok And not to worry Cuz worrying is wasteful and useless In times like these I won't be made useless Won't be idol with despair I'll gather myself around my faith Of light the darkness is most feared My hands are small I know But they are not yours they are my own But they are not yours they are my own And I am never broken Poverty stole your golden shoes It didn't steal your laughter And heartache came to visit me But I knew it wasn't ever after We will fight not out of spite But someone must stand up for what's right Cuz where this man who has no voice There are shadows singing My hands are small I know But they are not yours they are my own But they are not yours they are my own And I am never broken In the end only kindness matters In the end only kindness matters I will get down on my knees and I will pray I will get down on my knees and I will pray - -- Jewel from the song "Hands" ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Aug 1999 19:49:02 EDT From: Lsanta2335@aol.com Subject: * .... Betcha mtv will findlay be off the air soon =P Also whats funny about mtv is how they are on this whole anti racism kick.. they're giving out a free cd which includes Laurn Hill who if im not mistaken said that "I'd rather have an abortion than have a white person buy my album" or something to that affect. bah, i have seriouse hate directed at MTV ;)ZTV and the local record store have a larger selection of music than mtv. - -AL ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Aug 1999 20:01:12 EDT From: "Greg Butler" Subject: * EuroAngels Hi, Can someone get me a copy of the UK Down So Long for me? So many cool things happened, I hope I can remember them all. Everybody had great seats because the theater only had 2600 seats, and that was after adding 100 plus to the show. I didn't write anything down so this is all from memory and my be wrong or out of order. here is what I remember about the set lists.... He did a little improv about being in tampa Kiss My/Your Ass-Im not totally sure on this one Gold's Gym Guy Everything About You Silver Lining ABC's song- he told a story about smoking marijuana as an intro Holston Street Waterfalls- said something about being in love with "Left Eye" of TLC Notes about talking to the crowd: Some where in his set list he mentioned the mutilated doll on his mike stand which Jewel mentioned later "Near You Always" Jewel came out to massive applause, most of Near You Always could not be heard. She then talked to the crowd. She said she had just flown in from Atlanta, taken a nap and didn't even brush her hair, she turned around and showed the crowd her uncombed hair and questioned our sanity asking how we could live in a place threatened by hurricanes. She said in Alaska all they had to worry about was Bears and you could always push your brother toward the bear and run the other way. "Deep Water" "Hands", Before singing Hands she said Steve's mike stand was scary, questions the origin of the doll and what is was. She called it the "Blair Witch Barbie" which got a massive amount of cheers because the Blair Witch Project is a locally made movie. The she went into "Hands" she sang the intro many different ways, One was "If I could tell the world just one thing it would be, I am not ok" the other I remember was "If I could tell the world just one thing it would be, Steve's doll really scares me" "You Were Meant For Me"-Steve and Jewel sang on the same mic and later Steve kissed Jewel on the cheek. (I never wanted to be Steve Poltz more) Barcelona Life Uncommon Foolish Games Down So Long "Grey Matter"- she said this was new so when there were a few shouts of regognition(EDAs?) she was a bit puzzled Untitled song- she said she only had the chorus writtten no verses so if "the verses are stupid you'll know why" Love Me Just Leave Me Alone- I knew she could rock, but now I've seen it, totally Awsome!! Who Will Save Your Soul scatted, and then at the end she did the guitar mimicking, which was cool Chime Bells- my said she wanted to hear he yodel so im gald she did, I would have never heard the end of it if she hadn't Absence of Fear-Such power I felt like I was gonna faint after hearing this. She also did that song she wrote for her dad, she performed on storytellers She read some poetry. She borrowed a book from a fan, who I would meet later by the busses. It was there I found out she was an EDA, her name is Katharine. Jewel started to read "Bleary Eyed" But mid way though stopped saying she wanted to read a love poem- I screamed for Awaken, Love. She said something like "Good Idea" I know for a fact she said "Just what I was thinking" and started to read. She talked to "Me"!! I was in shock. After the show I went back to my car which was parked right across the street from the buses and waited for the band to show. I didnt know If Jewel had left yet and I wasn't going to take a security guards word for it. About 30 of us waited and waited and waited, no Jewel. I did get an autograph and a picture with Steve Poltz. Katharine and stayed... hopeing for at least a glimpse of Jewel, but the show ended at 11PM and it was now 2 and a half hours after the show and everybody had gone home, except us. The Band was gone the stage crew and even security so we decided to pack up and call it a night, it was 1:30 AM We both had 2 hour drives home. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Aug 1999 00:30:56 GMT From: "Heather Nowakowski" Subject: * Angelfood for Europe and Aussie EDAs Hi all, For those of you in Europe or Australia, I can send anyone who's interested some angelfood. It shows a picture of Jewel (singing and playing her guitar; wearing a black sleeveless shirt and black pants), with "Tommy Hilfiger presents Jewel in concert" and "TOMMY ROCKS" written across the middle. There are also two pictures of models to the right of the page. It's not worth buying the magazine for, but if you or your parents have this issue laying around the house you might want to take a look. - - Annie ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #520 ***************************
