Anyboody notice that you could never see Steve Poltz? Even when she introduced him he was blacked out. You could see the rest of the band just fine, even close ups of them. I wonder why this was? Maybe, Mercury records didn't allow it? Anyone else have any guesses? Take care! If someone is pretty or gorgeous outside I tend not to say this out loud since it is obvious... The kind of beauty I feel compelled to speak about is the kind of complex and meaningful beauty inside a person. The kind gleaned from their mannerisms, language, and deep creations from the heart (like Jewels music and poetry). Sadly, the full panorama of this ecclesiastical beauty is not always visible to every eye. Some have their eyes cast elsewhere--at a wall, at others, at fears, at desires, or down a road or path of least resistance for example. Call me ridiculous, but true beauty is when Jewel bares her soul and in so doing, shows us our own. What higher achievement of a life can their be than this? I already know I love her--that is probably obvious to anyone reading this. Jewel has given us a great gift, and that she makes a lot of money doing it is immaterial. Paying attention to that is like a car afficionado focusing on the gasoline that drives the beloved vehicles. I feel the years go by faster as I grow and see and learn more about the world, and my only grief is that one day I in this body will be gone and so will jewel, and all of us. Many never having met. I love the absolute miraculous wonders of life so much that this is difficult to think about. That never stops me though. I love thinking too much--one of the greatest riches of this life. When there is thinking to be done about truth.... I'm THERE!! It is important to see that Jewel has given us something as priceless and timeless as the turn of the spiral galaxies in the deep sky of creations wonderful tapestry. She gives me cool water from a deep well. A well beyond time and a familiar stranger to us all. This intangible thing spreads through us like hope in the mind of the dreamer. There is no more lasting or more valuable currency than the coin of the dreamer passed through the generations. The coin of hope and faith which fosters love of truth--the essence of all that is good. Anyway, I went to her concert here in Knoxville last night. I walked in and over past the row of concessions/tables (if anyone was there last night) to where the gate was by the tour buses. I am the type to look in unconventional ways in unconventional places so I ended up there at this gate while everyone else was watching Steve Poltz. I was just looking around at the buses just letting my mind and eyes wander, when they wandered across Jewel!!!! She was standing there next to a bus talking to one person (no entourage, no flurry of activity around her). Just a few feet away! I had looked past her even, but did a big double take and smiled at her. I couldn't help it. I was looking right at her, and she was smiling too. She was facing me and gave me this little wave. She must have seen me just walk right up where noone was and do the stupid double-take thing and see her. She must have seen the look on my face and so the little smile and wave thing... Of course I was struck dumb at that moment, just trying to take her in--seeing her in person like that. She resumed her conversation with the person standing there after that and I was still just standing there like a genuine idiot. At least I found the motor system operable enough in my stunned brain to move me out of there. I don't usually react like that. It was a weird effect. It is certainly not that she is famous, I have met my share of famous people. Fame means nothing to me except that I hear about someone via their fame that I like, or outright love, that I can never become friends with because their fame isolates them. But then if they weren't famous, I wouldn't get to hear about them at all anyway so this is not such an unpleasant thing. In fact, it is a great thing. Fame is a scary thing for them too--I'm sure for a lot of the same reasons such as the isolation thing. Talk about your overwhelming situations! I value my privacy and the solace of solitude and people watching, and the freedom to just go wherever, whenever--thinking whatever thoughts uninterrupted--so much that this seems like a nightmare. What a sacrifice to my mind that would be! We all owe Jewel big time for what she has done, for the beauty she has let into the world. Anyway, the concert was hypnotic and exciting in every way. The crowd was really getting into it--a guy just in front of me kept everyone in stitches by yelling things periodically while jumping up and down waving his arms. For example "I love you Jewel, I want you to be the mother of my children!!". He was quite entertaining. Every time he yelled something like this, the crowd around us would all look around at each other laughing and shaking our heads, etc. Jewel was so good on stage it was uncanny. She tells these stories, sometimes by changing the lyrics to a song she is right in the middle of and then using the new lyrics to lead into the story. Then she resumes the song and does it again. Very cool. She makes you feel like a good friend of hers. How can a stage presence get better than that? I was suprised and impressed. I already loved her just from her album! So here I am. Anyone else from Knoxville on this list? What was the name of the other guitarist besides Steve Poltz that was onstage with her? I have the impression that his name was Steve or something too, but that can't be right... Please help if you can! Also, where can I get a copy of the Wizard of Oz movie she did and also a copy of the "Sunshine Superman" song? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to talking with all of you and maybe meeting you guys too some day. Forget the fact that the list is bigger (we could easily fit every list member and a friend into a mid sized venue or large club). Imagine this the first Jewelstock got leaked to the press, this was'nt a big deal cause it was late in the planning and to be honest no one cared about her back then. But just think of this we plan Jewelstock it's all set to go, then tomorrow on Mtv Kurt Loder says "Jewel will be holding a private show for her fans in bearsville next month" imagine what happens to the list imagine how many non list members flock to the location of the show, face it cant happen now. Right now the best we can hope for is TV shows like Storytellers, or surprise like the EDAF thanksgiving kickoff were no one not even Jewel knew she was coming untill the last minute. Consider that a warning next time something happens with Jewel I'm betting it will be just that, at a gathering or at a Poltz show, if you dont come to gatherings you miss out on alot. My name is Dorothy but everyone calls me Dot or Princess(yeah yeah i know, but its a long story and i dont think you want to know) I live in Panama City, Fl, I am 17 and I just started college yesterday. umm...thats all I guess. Now for my questions and thoughts. Could anyone tell me where I can get piano music to some of Jewels songs? I know that you can get music for her released songs but does anyone know if you can get the music for Absence of Fear? I was just thinkin the other day that it would be kinda groovy if we made shirts or posters or stickers or something like that with pictures of angels drawn by EDA's and then put our favorite Jewel quotes on them. Like we could have one with a love-struck angle drawn in that old victorian way with the quote "show me one man who knows his own heart, to him I shall belong..." I dunno. I just think that it would be a fun project for everyone. Well I should go now, this post is long enough already. I look forward to getting to know everyone better. I've now received two distinct private emails from Rowdius and JewelAng and in both cases my "Send Sean to camp money" was mentioned. I am just curious as to whatever happened to these monies? Were pledges actually made and donations actually collected? Yes I went to Bearsville, partly because of Mike Connell's encouragement that it could be financially profitable for me. But I got there and received none of the rumored "Send Sean to camp" money. Dennis Harris mentioned something to me at the event and then later we corresponded briefly via email and I gave him my address but no check has been received in the mail. Was this all a big joke or was there actual money out there? Again, I mention this only because I've been receiving private emails mentioning it again. So, if it was in fact a real thing, I feel I am entitled to the money, however small the amount may be. I would not even be expressly opposed to giving it to charity instead of giving it to me in cash or as a check or whatever. But as I told Dennis, in that case, I should certainly be the one to choose the charity Just curious, Sean Hooks ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Aug 1999 20:37:16 EST From: "scorpius48 & belgarion32" Subject: * NJC: australian and particulary sydney EDA's?
