I love Jupiter and Emily of course too. That is a beautiful picture of Jewel on the cover. Hey, this says its a CD5 Maxi Single...what does that mean??? Is there going to be a regular single of Jupiter or something??? Also, is this released on tape...I didn't see it anywhere. Thanks for reading. Well, the guitar that Jewel has is a Ibanez acoustic/electric I paid a little more then $700 for it but I think it has come down in price. I had a great experience at our concert in Houston b/c someone shouted out "I love you Jewel" She made a joke of it and other misc things. i thought she was very funny. Also it was pouring down rain. The first time she came out with Steve and danced around the stage. then about thirty mins late She came in soaked to the bone. Her hair still not quite dry. and sang "Near You Always" It was mesmerizing, b/c you couldn't see her yet you could only hear her voice. I loved the concert and I would go see a hundred more it was great and it brought to life a part of me I thought was dead. Now I write, sing, compose. She is wonderful, I wrote a song I hope to get to sing to her someday Angel AKG ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Aug 1999 09:40:29 +1000 (EST) From: "HILYARD,Danielle" Subject: * Setlist Sameness >Why is it that Jewel has had pretty much the same setlist for all of her >pretty recent shows? Brian "The Jelly Doughnut of an Angel" wrote: Probably the band. They need it to be somewhat structured. I think they do a good job about it though, playing some planned stuff, and then letting Jewel play some stuff accoustic. I really have to disagree with you there. Given that all of the musicians in the band are incredibly talented, I don't think it'd be much of a stretch for them if Jewel said "that's it fella's - we're playing "Grey Matter" next". If they jam together regularly (which is a given if they are on tour together - what do you do on a bus besides joke around, sleep or jam?) then they would be in tune enough to just go with any setlist that Jewel felt like belting out. If you notice, in Europe the setlists are really varied with a great mix of new and old. While I think this is also to expose audiences to her older music, it is also probably because she is in new places & new places always generate, in me anyway, an excitement, a creative urge (call it what you will). Touring would get supremely boring - sometimes we all get uninspired - and I think that that is the primary reason for the sameness of setlists. Also, never forget that this tour is to market "Spirit" - which is a dodgy excuse but one every record company executive seems to hold near and dear - but they've gotta realise the best way of keeping old fans and drawing new ones is to keep it new, dynamic & innovative. I think that's what makes me respect a musician/artist even if I don't particularly dig their music. Just as a side note, I'm from Australia & while she was singing "Barcelona" she replaced the lyric "I'm afraid I'm alone" with "I'm too far from home". I felt this was really pertinent to how one feels when touring/travelling a lot. Sometimes Jewel may not feel like putting on a show, but would rather take a ride on her horse, hang out with her family or doing any number of things that interest her. Sometimes, even the most talented of performers, are having a CRAP day and are feeling uninspired - still, that is no consolation for the person who just paid hard earned cash to see someone they admire, churn out the same tunes again and again and again and again. Being part of this list, it has become increasingly obvious that her setlists have that sameness - When is she going to start with anything but Near You Always???? Given that Jeweljk.com are now featuring lyrics to some of her older music, it would seem obvious that it has gotten back to Jewel that variety is the spice of life! And that can only be good for our CD/Tape players!! Just a thought, if an artist can write a song in a soundcheck - how the hell can they not expand their setlists to encompass a wide range of their repertoire? Okay! I'll stop rambling now. I know > her life is demanding and what not, but if she doesn't like her job > anymore, she shouldn't perform. She was clearly put out with it. It's not that Jewel doesn't love to perform. As she said on Storytellers, touring is her only way of gaining fans, and whatnot, so she is always touring. She's only had a few off days during the Spirit tour. So, if you're at a concert, and there is a lack of intimacy or Jewel seems run down, just realize that she is probably very tired. That situation reminds me of the July 10th Woodlands show. In Steve's set, he said something about Houston, which is fair, because the two cities are very close together. I'm sure many of the concertgoers were of Detroit, anyways. - - Annie [The Eccentric, Jewel-adoring Angel] . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
