(LONG!) howdy angels~ wanna hear about my fantastic time at the marcus Amphitheater last night? TOUGH! or else delete this message! =) (k, guys, i'm realizing now that this is an incredibly long post, but those of you that know me, you know that i can babble on and on and on about absolutely nothing, so bear with me people! =) or just skip to the good parts.) k, should I start off at the beggining? yeah, that sounds like a good plan. and i got my bud mandy2 here, she's gonna help me right this. mandy #2, how was the concert in your opinion? she just said "totally awesome." k. *THE BEFORE THE CONCERT STUFF- (because that's half the fun!) well i arrived at the marcus amphitheater at like 5:30 pm, and i had some time to kill, so i found a group of what looked like hippies tailgating in the parking lot, so we joined them. (we being my friend kate and myself. i made her come with me =) ) they were all really cool, they had a set up too! picnic table and everything. so, they fed us and beveraged us, and all that good stuff. (and they weren't really hippies, they were actually uw-whitewater students. they were just sporting the gear for the jewel concert. how fun!) so, we were chilling there, and then i see someone ride by on a bike, and it was doug pettibone! so i'm like wow! that's doug pettibone! cool! but he was long gone into the gates that only special people that have backstage passes can get into. but i did see him! i thought that was pretty cool. we chilled some more and then i could hear a soundcheck from the distance, and i ran over to hear it better, but it was rusted root. by then i was totally edging to get in there, so we left the tailgaters and found a gate where you have to be one of those special people with backstage passes to get into. but there were a whole bunch of other people there, and they were playing their bongo drums and stuff. there was even a cute guy wearing a skirt! they were very cool. they weren't jewel fans though, they came all the way from fargo, nd just to see rusted root! so, i think that deserves some recognition... then we were going to try to find a way to sneak inside, but then i realized hey! steve could see stuff that was over there, so i went back and got out my sidewalk chalk, and wrote in humongous letters 'mandy loves steve', and i wrote my seat numbers and stuff. then i let the rusted root people borrow some of my chalk, and they wrote all over one of the walls, with all these cool hippie drawings and they wrote rusted root in that cool font thing that rusted root uses. and then they security gaurds came over and checked us out, making sure we weren't graffiti-ing up the place, but they were cool cause were like, it's just chalk! and then the security guard guy that was guarding the gate that only special people that have backstage passes can get into was talking to us. he was really cool. i asked him later on in the evening and he said his name was charles. he made sure that we all had good seats, cause if we didn't, he was going to try to get us better ones. we love charles! he's the coolest security gaurd. then by that time it was 6:30 and the gates to get inside the amphitheater were open, so, we went inside. =) *BEFORE THE SHOW, INSIDE THE SHOW we were just all wandering around and checking out and buying jmerch, (i knew someone that worked at the booth, so we were hooked up. =) ) and doing all that before the concert, concert stuff. it took us forever to find out where rock and wrap it up was, but we eventually did. BRING FOOD PEOPLE!!! they even gave us these cool rusted root post cards for donating food. (who by the way, were very cool! they can jam!) and then we spotted an EDA shirt, so we chased him down to find out that it was jay christoph jonson. yeah! he's such a good guy. then i decieded that i needed another chalk sign, so blam, there i put it. =) and then i was standing by the ramp thing that leads up to the amphitheater, and i chalked up another huge sign about wanting a kiss from steve (this was a good place casue everyone could see it) and i wrote a little note to my eda bud nik, and then i was like putting my chalk away and i look up and he's like mandy? and then i look and i'm thinking huh? then i say 'nik!' =) and before i know it most of the edas are all gathered around me. there was al (aka adam), and his friend porkchop, jessica and her friend emily (how cool is that! emily and jessica? get it? awesome!) and there was jay and a girl that he gave a ride to from chicago who's name is christine, and nik, and his brother was there for a little while, his name is val (niffty guy, he told us great stories about his "piercings". i think you can figure this out!) and my 2 friends bria and amanda (aka mandy #2) plus me and kate. i was wearing my jewel tank top and pined a little thing onto it from my backpack that says "every day angel" (and later i put on my steve poltz shirt) plus i had my backpack, so i made kate tie my eda shirt around her waist, and then she was wearing this halo... she looked so cute! she was going around telling everyone that she was my guardian angel. =) and we all hung out and talked and took pictures and stuff until the concert started, then we all dispersed to our seats. but kate was having this obsession about kissing a guy with a pierce tongue, so she was writing in chalk 'stop if you have a pierced tongue!', but this incredibly horrible, mean old security lady came over and started yelling at her for writing on the sidewalk. and we sat there and argued with her for a while, but she was a tough old braud, so we didn't get anywhere. it's just chalk for crying out loud! chalk! it washes off! and the other security guys at the other gate never said nothing about it, they thought it was cool! kate decieded that she's just cranky cause she broke up with her boyfriend. =) mean mean lady! grr. so kate's thing didn't make any sense, it just said 'stop if you have a'. that's it. she wouldn't even let her finish it so it would make sense. and then everyone that walked by was reading it, and it didn't make any sense, so we're like screaming, 'pierced tongue! stop if you have a pierced tongue!' we didn't find anyone though. we're wacked out. =) *BEGINING OF THE SHOW we walked in and rusted root is already playing, and they could jam! i didn't know very much about rusted root, but a listened to their cd once when i found out someone that i knew had their cd. all i knew about them was that they were very pecussion-y and that they jammed. and that's about all i still know. but they are really cool, so don't miss them! but what was really cool was that during rusted root's set i kept an eye off to the side of the stage to look for people i could regonize, exspecially steve! (for those of you that don't know, i LOOOOVE steve! i had an "evil plan," my mission for the night, and that was to kiss steve poltz. but back to the story... so there's a doorway off to the side of the stage, and rusted root had the lights dimm, and if you looked over there you could see the dorrway was really illuminated from the lights of backstage, and i saw a chick there (sorry if chick offends you, cuz i love that word) with long blonde hair wearing a black outfit. i'm like 'kate! kate! look!' and i'm like, 'that could be jewel!' just the way she was standing there was really cool, she just looked like jewel, just by how she was standing. i know that sounds a little wierd, but i totally mean it! and it was really cool how the door was all illuminated, the light was shining all over her and she looked just like an angel. really cool. NOW INTO STEVE'S SET -the big moment!!!! so between rusted root and steve's set there was the usual set up inbetween and intermission thing. but i saw steve come up on stage, (i was in the second row at this time, my buds bria and mandy #2 had second row seats, but what was really cool was the first row was shorter than the second row because of how the amphitheater is shaped, so really it was like the front row, it was right in front of the little baricade things that they have in front of the stage) and we're like screaming to him and stuff, and when we got his attention we held up our signs, mine said 'i (pic of a heart) steve' and nik made me a sign that said 'steve is da man' and kate was holding up that one for me. and he blew us a kiss! my heart like totally dropped into my stomach! and i'm like motioning for him to come here, but he's like, i gotta sing and was motioning to the stage. *humonguos sigh i soo love steve! he is THE coolest. and then steve took the stage, and he opened up with 'kiss your ass' which i thought was incredibly cool. i didn't know that was one that steve co-wrote with jewel, i thought it was just a jewel song. so, i was impressed- (but my god he could have sang nothing and i would have been impressed!) he said something like 'where are all those girls that were up here in the front row? they were nice!' and he said nice in the cutest way! it was like niiiicce. yeah steve, anything for you! =) oh i love steve! and then (i'm not even going to try with the whole setlist, i'll leave that up to someone else- i already talk too much!!!) and before he sang 'everything about you' he said his schpeal on one left shoe and the notting hill soundtrack, and he's like 'i'd like to dedicate this to the five people that were up here that bought my cd (us!!!) and everyone here with freckles on their face' ahhh! steve is THE greatest! *JEWEL'S UP NOW- yeah! so jewel comes out singing the usual 'near you always' and does all her stuff. she is sooooooooo awesome. so awesome. people, you have to see her live, it's just not the same! i won't even bother with the setlist, but i will try to remember all the non-album cool stuff that she did. she of course rocked out with down and lmjlma (my personal favorite! i knew she would play it, but i was still so glad!) steve was bouncing up and down doing the mosh thing during that song, and bam, i was right along there with him. =) she did carnivore (which i know nik was SUPER glad to hear!) and swedish song, which I was really surprised to hear! and she did the new one, which she said didn't have a name yet, but the chorus goes something like, "i'll follow you down, down, down". she didn't tell too many stories, which also surprised me. she seemed like she was in a pretty good mood, she was "feeling frisky". so cute! she also said she felt like playing really obscure songs tonight, (big cheer by me!) she was just absolutely beautiful and amazing. she was wearing black pants and a black long sleeved v-neck shirt (one my personal fashion favorites!) and it was pretty low cut, cause her red bra was peeking out sometimes. she had a a light redish maroon bandana in her hair, an it looked really cute. and she had these amazing shoes! those things musta been like 4 inches in the back! they had what looked like wooden soles but then they had these holes in the side...from far away you might have thought they were ice skates. they were totally funky! so great! *ENCORE! ENCORE!- major good stuff!!! then jewel came back out for the encore, and she started out with abscence of fear, (and myself being the prepared angel that i am) ran up to bria and amanda's seats (surprisingly with out getting yelled at by the security guard!) and we all just squished in and made the room. we're good friends after all! lol and i started to hold my anwa book out to her, and then she's like 'does anyone have their poetry book with them?' and then we all start jumping up an down and screaming. and it was so cute she did this little surprised/fear shake of the hands and arms thingy (you know like if you were screaming ahhhh!) and she's like okay! and she walks over to us and we hand it to her, and we're like we love you, and we knew you'd read for us and all this really stupid-sounding crap... and i had stuck a sticky note onto my (and bria's!) favorite poem (so just kiss me) and she's like they already have one marked so i'll read that one. and my god she read it! bria and i were about to die! we absolutely couldn't believe that jewel was reading our favorite poem to us from my book! ahhh! (shake of the arms thingy) it was absolutely AMAZING! it was so cute too cause i forgot i had left something in my book (it was an extra blank ticket that they sent to me with my tickets, it just had my address and stuff on it) and when she opened up the book, it fell out! and i'm thinking, what the heck did i leave in my book? but i REALLY didn't care! =) and then after she was done reading it, she picked it back up and put it back in there. it was so cute! then we were yelling for race car driver, but she played chime bells, which was just as good! i love that one too. i think everyone must love that one. i'm on an amazing jewel-high! AFTER THE SHOW unfortunetly, to the disappointment of myself and many of my henchmen, i did not get to meet steve after the show. somebody's grumpy mom (& it's not mine...) made us leave for some INCREDIBLY stupid reason. and i had to leave with them, or else she would have had a fit. i can not believe this myself, and i feel absolutely HORRIBLE for not getting to kiss or even meet steve poltz! i was totally bummed and disappointed. i got to wait for a while, but i was talking to my securtiy guard buddy, charles, (back at the gate where only special people with backstage passes get to go) and he said that there was a meet and greet backstage for an hour and that they would probably come out after that. but stupid linda... grrrr! i know that if it were up to me, i'd have stayed there until at least noon to wait for steve, I don't give up that easily, i just didn't want kate to have to pay for it! all i can say is that when steve poltz comes back to town, or anywhere even remotely NEAR town, he's in for BIG trouble! pucker up steve! i have not nor will not give up! =) but a blown kiss makes for a great start! i was also looing for matt lawson and matt sullivan, but i didn't catch up with either of them. what's up eith that guys? geez! the rest of you guys can help me out with stuff that i forgot, i'm looking forward to reading your posts too! i had the most absolutely amazing time at the jewel concert, and i know that it's something that i will never ever never forget, and i hope that everyone else has as much fun, or heck even more fun (as if that's possible!!!) than i did! and DON'T FORGET YOUR CANNED FOOD and your anwa books! lol hugs*~ mandy "the angel who loves that her name gets to start with the!" the the angel? lol c'mon, you know what i mean, how many names get to start with the? uh, none! except mine... Hey Angels, I have sort of a request/trade offer in one. I wasn't quick enough to grab one of the Jewel guitar picks from either of the Spirit tour shows I was at (the ones that Steve and Doug threw out). You know...the ones that say Jewel on them? Well if anyone happened to get an extra one of these, I have a couple of things I could trade if you're interested. I collect guitar picks, so this really means so much to me. If anyone can help, please contact me ASAP as I will be away at the Toronto Lilith this weekend. Thanks! - -Nicole:) angel on horseback ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #483 ***************************
