I chose Jewel, of course. I could use a few pointers in writing because when I started to write it, I just kept getting off track by writing her life story. Everything she did was some sort of role model type thing though. If you want to read it and give your opinion just reply back to me privately and I'll e-mail you the paper. I'd just like to share with everyone that awhile back the JewelJK website had a contest to win free tix to the Spirit Tour of your choice & I was one of the winners! I chose the Meadows Music Theater, Hartford, CT performance on July 28th. The tickets were wonderful seats (14th row center), and the webmaster was very sweet (I thought the tix weren't gonna be there at first, but everything worked out beautifully). Steve Poltz was a great crowd-pleaser...he played TLC's "Waterfalls" to close (a neat version) b/c he said he has a crush on "Left Eye". This was a beautiful Jewel performance. It took a few songs for Jewel to "warm up" to the audience, but once she got into it, her voice was perfection (amazing, considering Woodstock was a few days prior). It was cute 'cause she made all the band come to the front of the stage & show us their new sneakers they got at Woodstock (Steve had mentioned his shoes earlier during his set, too...the boys must be very proud of their sneaks!). If anyone has angelfood from this performance, email me. Thanks, Kristen ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Aug 1999 10:10:05 EDT From: JeWeLzKeWL@aol.com Subject: * Dance Between Two Women Hiya. I heard the song Dance Between Two Women..it was released in 1995 I'm pretty sure.. I've never heard her sing it live though, I don't think she does.. But I was wondering if its autobiographical. Please let me know. *Jade* - -Tiny Angel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Aug 1999 10:59:33 EDT From: W1GGY2@aol.com Subject: * Re: Steve Poltz question and Camden show Elana asked about Steve: > He sang Everything About You, which he said was about > an old girlfriend that died, > (Is this the same girl that Jessica by Jewel is > about?) This question has been asked before but I don't think it was ever answered. No, it's not the same girl. Steve was referring to a girl named Julie Daly that died tragically about 2 weeks after Steve last saw her (he was not dating her at the time - that was a long time earlier). Strangely enough, he told her at that meeting that PART of Everything About You was written about her (the part about the freckles). However, the rest of the song is about several different people. He said all his love songs are like that, they aren't about a single person, but a combination of different ones. It was great to see all of you who went to the Camden show. Funny little story backstage: Eric and I were talking to Steve, and Eric noticed the remnants of nail polish on Steve's fingernails. Apparantly, Jewel had insisted on painting his nails a few days earlier (2 different colors) and he still wasn't able to get it all off. About 10 minutes later, I noticed the same remnants on Brady's fingers! Heheh - Jewel, the Mad Nail Polisher (MNP) strikes again! Doug's nails were clean, for the record. Forgot to check Tony's. :-) Amy ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Aug 1999 10:10:27 -0700 From: "Raven" Subject: * Jewel Target mag. Hey Everyone! I was waiting for this concert, especially when I found out about the not so good quality of my Holmdel recording though Steve didn't seem to bad the treble was to low for Jewel. Any way contact me again if you want angel food of either though I recomend Camden. As well as the recording this concert seemed to be even better than Holmdel as far as the songs go, but I don't remember Jewel telling any storys, or even introducing the band. Also I noticed Doug Pettibony walking out among everyone before the concert, and got his autograph, and my mother told him how much she loves Poltz, and he said that he loves him too. Jewel was also wearing more conventional cloths: black pants, the shirt she wore on Leno, and platform shoes; I think. Has anyone ever compiled any statistics on EDA's as a group, or individuals like age, gender, nationality, ect. If not it should be done, Mike? Who was that other EDA in section 202 row H? Also, CDNOW says that if you pre-order by at least the Friday before a release date and select one of the upgraded FedEx shipping options (like 2-DAY) then they will send it to you early and YOU WILL GET IT THE DAY OF RELEASE! :-) I really like this because I can't get singles in a store close to me! Hopefully it will help someone else too! :-) One more thing, they say it has Jupiter, Deep Water, and EMILY! :-) Mika ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Aug 1999 19:23:20 EDT From: Nutty81@aol.com Subject: * Re:Ride with the Devil In what part of MO was this filmed? And she >read the poem that has something about "my prince".... She read poetry at the concert I attended - the very first concert of the tour!!!!! (Melbourne, Feb.25th @ the Palais Theatre). It was actually quite funny, b/c she asked the crowd if anyone had her poetry book and all these people cheered. Then she said, "no, I mean, do you have it here?" Everyone started waving their books around and she said that was great and that she'd sign them if they brought them up to the stage. At this point all these people started THROWING their books to the stage (directly towards Jewel!!). I think she got a bit of a shock. Anyway, she asked if a guy called Wade was in the audience and had a bit of a conversation with him. Apparently he had requested that she read poetry during a phone call earlier in the day?!?!?!?! So, she read - A Slow Disease, Wild Horse, Too Many Nights (without actually reading) and Miracle. We got 4!!!!!!!!! Anyway, this was rather pointless, but I just this out. Thanks for reading... Take Care Jess ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Aug 1999 17:43:53 PDT From: "Kyle Adema" Subject: * Cleveland Concert At 3:48am as I pulled off the thruway, I heard Jupiter come on the radio for the first time, which capped off an amazing day. Steve Poltz played a great set, including Hitch Hiker Joe, The Chair Song, Star Wars Song and Flowers are pretty(which he finished writting that day, because it mentioned Cleveland and he wanted to sing it in Cleveland, go figure.) Then came Jewel. As soon as the lights went down, I thought I was so smart, and knew she was going to sing NYA like at my other three shows. But, she just held her guitar in her left hand and sang what I'm pretty sure is called "Per La Gloria D'adorarvi", I didn't understand a word she said, but it was amazing. Then she launched into the usual set. after YWMFM w/stalking story, she started her solo set. Which she kicked off with Just Passing Time, I couldn't believe it, this is one of my favorites, and it was so amazing live. Then she did Morning and cold songs, followed by Ella's Too Darn Hot. After that amazing part she went back to the norm, until after Foolish Games, where she threw in You're In Cleveland Today(This was quite a shock, I can't figure out what persuaded her to play it.) She finished with a great LMJLMA and the best Chime Bells I've heard yet. Of the four concerts I went to, this was definatley the best set list and where Jewel performed best, which isn't a suprise since she warned us right away that she was in a good mood. I don't think after this, anyone could disagree that Jewel has the most amazing voice on the planet, It just awes me every time she hits those highs in LMJLMA or WWSYS or Life Uncommon, and then how calm and serene it is during AoF. Amazing. After the show I met my first EDA(What's Up Delora!) and Brady Blair. He was a little drunk off "Tony's(bassist)Shit beer"(it was Bud)and when the security gaurds told everybody to leave and go home, he just started walking with us and was like "aiight I'm goin home." He was pretty cool. Brady also said that Jewel's working on two albums right now, which probobaly isn't new news to anyone, that he saw Ride With the Devil and it's "Real Cool", and finally that he was happy they were getting a big break in September, and then going BACK OUT ON THE ROAD IN DECEMBER, woo hoo! And that ends my amazing Spiritual Journey,(get it because it's the Spirit Tour, pretty clever huh?)four shows, 1 ticket(parking), 1390+ miles, and whole lot of caffine. Here's the (incredible)setlist: Par La Gloria D'adorarvi Deep Water What's Simple Is True Hands YWMFM Passing Time Morning Song Cold Song Too Darn Hot Barcelona Life Uncommon Foolish Games You're In Cleveland Today Down So Long Down LMJLMA WWSYS ENCORE- AoF Wolves In The Canyon(poem) Chime Bells See Ya, Kyle PS I did get a good tape of it, but please, no one ask me for a copy. I'm doing a ton of angelfood as is, and then going camping in Alaska for a couple weeks, when I get back I'll offer it to the list. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #474 ***************************
