I listened...and I remembered how she sounds like such an angel. And How I used to let her voice sing me off to sleep.....feeling so safe. I keep listening to Dont and near you always and relating....and remembering other songs and the memories that go with them. What I was going through in my life when I last listened to it. I think all of you should do this. Its refreshing. And it reminds me why Im an EDA. And that Jewel Is my angel. Remember the song im sensitive? That used to be my favorite. And she sounds so young in it.....and she says "we are everyday angels...be careful with me cause id like to stay that way" I remember how the list was a few years ago... It felt....more homey than it does now. Didn't she say that a year or two ago at Harborlights? She didn't Yo, I've just come up with a theory to explain these baldfacers... that is, I have an idea of why she might be claiming those old, brilliant songs are being made up alongside the ones that really are new - it disguises the fact that she's not writing complicated lyrics anymore. Even the most distant critic would have to notice the drop in sheer word volume and obscure imagery from her older works to those of today... so maybe she's experiencing some writers' block and this is her way of covering for it? It really is puzzling. .end.transmission. | Jesse Dangerously | .10.04.good.buddy. | without justice | ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jul 1999 09:35:00 EDT From: Krishubb@aol.com Subject: * Anybody willing to help me get Bits & Baubles??? Jupiter is really phenomenal what i have been reading on the list. But does anybody know who did the direction of the video? Was it Lawrence Caroll again or did Jewel write this video story her self. This was never revelead, so maybe somebody can do the research!! What a wonderful bandversion of Jewel at Woodstock i saw today in Holland. The song had so much energy and good vocals of Jewel , i really laughed when she was telling the story she always watch europe and kept a handkerchief with her to help somebody who is sad!!! But Deep water rocked also and Hands when she started to get the public sing along with her!!!! That was cool!!! And her mentioning that she has the coolest job in the world!!! Jewel looked good and Steve was funny when he gave his cowboy hat to Jewel!!! Enough now.........I wished she played Do you want to play on Woodstock but maybe they will broadcast it on VH1 Storytellers sunday!!!! Innoncence needs to be maintained, was this song also recorded for Storytellers programme? It would be cool if at one time in europe Jewel will perform such a show for her european fans in one studio wherever that may be! Real eda's of Jewel will be there i suppose! Is it true that is considered a release for the new single of Jupiter in the USA??? And everybody confuses eachother when the new book of Jewel will be released. She wrote a book of beautiful poems ANWA but she also wrote a book with short stories, when is this scheduled to release? And as far as Ride with the devil are there european dates for cinemas announced or do any fan of jewel in europe know if it will hit the cinemas at their place??? In Toronto it will feature a festival but will that be in Europe too?? Wow i hope Jewel will come soon to Europe back and play wonderful songs of her Spirit album. I seen her 11 times in may 1999 here, but i already long forward to see more concerts in October... And final words everyone who wants to get his hands on the dutch eda tapes collection of her european tour in may 1999 can email me freely to discuss details. Bye, Michiel your dutch Jewelfriend. After MONTHS of listening to 'Livin' La Vida Loca' my son is now bugging me to play 'Jupiter'!! It is soooo cute!! He's gonna be 3 in September so I think he qualifies as one of her youngest angels!! He watches the video and does some of the movements she does like that lip thing she does. and knows the whole chrous since Monday!! He's learning the begining now. Then when the video is over he goes "YEAH JEWEL!!" and claps. Then says "OK mommy AGAIN" like 10 more times. I hope he doesn't make me sick of this song too. We're going on the 3rd time right now. Sorry if I bugged some of you but it's adorable and I can finally listen to Jewel in the car. It used to be called Awakening The Spirit, but I changed the name, and the look. Please tell me what you think of it. I also added this cool message board system where you can discuss all about Jewel. There's a 'Members Only' section too, so you can filter out messages from people who don't know anything about Jewel. The password to access that section is 'member-jewel'. I think everyone will like this site, it doesn't contain a lot of Jewel info, but it has a lot of features that Jewel fans like =). Does anyone have a setlist? I heard Rusted Root was good, but I never really heard much of them before.....I was very impressed... Steve Poltz knocked my socks off...lol.... I went over and said "hello" to Alan/Mr. BB....I met him the last time Jewel was in CT....I was surprised that he remembered me...I told him how I had a dream the other night that Jewel asked me to sing with her (hahaha..like THAT would happen) and I jokingly asked him what my chances were...he laughed and said "slim!" but that Steve usually brings a girl up on stage...so instead of being the mature one like I usually am, I had to regress to my 'old high school personality" (which was kinda fun, I might add) and I tried to manipulate the security guys into letting me stay up close to stage..They were very nice to me as they told me to go sit down...but I stalled for a while and it was fun...lol..Needless to say, it wasn't me who got picked, but it was fun trying... Jewel was beautiful...I haven't been posting my opinions on her lately, because I'm not sure what I think of all this...but she came out in a simple black outfit...her hair was POY hair (if you know what I'm saying) She looked like the old Jewel that used to make me cry...not the "diva" Jewel that seems so far away....does anyone understand what I mean? I was glad, because I thought she seemed to have the "more true to herself, more down to earth" presence and it was refreshing....Don't be offended, I'm not bashing her, but part of my attraction to her voice and her music and her lyrics, were that I could identify with them, and I can't identify as easily with the 'diva' thing, not that I don't enjoy it. She really did shine. She read poetry on stage which I would have to say was probably one of the biggest highlights for me....And also, she did that "Janis Joplin-esque" thing with her voice during WWSYS, which was great, but "Deep Water" went right through me and I got lost in it, it was so beautiful. "Down So Long" was awesome too.... It was a great show.....A friend of mine had the opinion that Jewel "sold out"...you remember all the posts a while back about all of that...His opinion changed and he was very impressed when we left last night. It was great.. Lastly, I just want to say, in my opinion....the POY tour vs. the Spirit tour..... POY was unbelievable.....Spirit was too, and they were both so different to me...It's impossible to compare them (which one is better, that sort of thing). I think I can say now, that as diverse as she is, like so many of her songs are so different from each other, you never know what to expect...and I bet next time, she's going to show us all a completely different side to her talent....I just love this. :) I think Steve Poltz was definitely a big asset for her, I hope he stays around for a while. Thanks for listening to my ramble.. Melissa Angel with Bright Eyes ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #443 ***************************
