I thought it would be better to offer an EDA the chance to go to the soundcheck and meet Jewel, than one of my friends, because no one really likes her. So, if you don't have plans for the concert yet, or if ya do, and you wanna go, lemme know. Just tell me where your from and about how old ya are. I'll try and do it is fairly as possible. I haven't seen anyone post about this yet, but at the Target I went to, they were alos selling the Jewel journals for $11.65, which I think is less than it is selling for on the website. Plus they had that Angel Standing By book some of you have mentioned. And of course all 3 CD's...on one big display...actually 1/4 of a 4-sided display stand. The magazines were up front though near the entrance. She was so breathtaking! I especially loved when she was all blue and she looked so..so...subdued. I've never felt so artistically in love with an artist before but Jewel was just smashing! The new version of Jupiter is so neat, also! I love the "oh ee ohs" those sound awesome! And she really does showcase her vocal abilities in this song. I loved it all in all. Except the kissing couple, tell me, did they fit in anywhere? The color that they exposed, the vivacious red and paleness of the lady's skin, and the guy...they just didn't go! Anyway, i thought the green light from her mouth looked funny but at the same time, it was cool. I loved the flashing photos. They didn't make much sense but it was definately Eye Candy! A bit dizzying to my already splitting headache but if it's Jewel, I manage to DEAL! So, that was my review! On a scale of 1-10, a 10.5! Peace, Tiffany! ~*Always Check for hot, sticky grape gum on your shoe!*~ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jul 1999 23:01:07 EDT From: KNicky3116@aol.com Subject: * Mansfield/Jones Beach tape etc. Hey EDA's, I got my pictures back from the Mansfield concert on Tuesday night, and they came out SO good!! I had some good ones from the Jones Beach show, but the second time around I had better luck. I know many of you requested pictures, and I did tell a few of you that I could send you some, but for now I just need to focus on getting them scanned because I'm trying to make a new website and I'd like to include them there. Eventually I'll probably offer copies of the pictures to you, but I can't promise anything. The Jones Beach show that I recorded is definitely not worth dubbing for any of you, unfortunately. It makes Jewel's voice waver so much, and it's pretty unpleasant to have it butcher her voice like that :*( And I had no means of taping the Mansfield show, but like Mike posted, the J-team has it recorded for a future webcast. I already sent a mini-review about the Mansfield show, but I'll end with another couple of statements. First of all, I'm a little upset at the Tweeter Center's (or is it Massachusett's?) rule for ending the shows by 11pm. Rusted Root, Steve Poltz, and Jewel's sets were all noticeably shorter than they were on Saturday, and it's just a big pain in the butt for the performers to be on a set time limit. I could have sworn I saw Jewel look at her watch about half way through her performance, and I thought she was in a rush or something. She probably checked the time to make sure she was going according to schedule and would end by 11. Jewel never ceases to amaze me, and every time I see her in concert I notice a trend that develops with me. This is going to sound extremely silly, but I can't eat when I know I'm going to see Jewel! LOL I eat a lot too, but here are some examples: *I lost 5 pounds in two days when I went to NY to see Storytellers *I didn't eat lunch or dinner the day of Jewel's Jones Beach show *I didn't eat anything after 1pm the day of the Mansfield show. You're talking about someone who eats 3 meals a day...ok enough about how Jewel makes my eating habits change :P For all who attended Mansfield, did you hear Jewel's awesome improvisation at the end of WWSYS? She was scatting about Massachusetts and Rhode Island, then LA and I thought that was great. Ok, you've all heard too much from me. To all EDA's who are anxiously waiting for upcoming Jewel concerts, ENJOY!!! - -Nicole:) angel on horseback ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jul 1999 23:08:56 EDT From: JaydeMH@aol.com Subject: * Target CD Hey everyone: I work at Target, so for those of you who don't have s tore near you I would be happy to get you one. You know, this recent talk over the dismay of MTV's Total Request Live has gotten me to thinking. Most or all of us can remember when MTV was simply about anything and everything going on in the popular music industry, right? Today, it has clearly shifted. To begin, half of the programming on MTV isn't even music-related. We have the Real World, Road Rules, Tom Green (which is admittedly really funny), and all of this other stuff that has absolutely no bearing on music at all. The remaining music programming of course does not cover 'anything and everything,' as much as it covers only what is most popular. The ten most popular videos we see on TRL end up being the musicians (I use this term loosely) we see most on their other musical programming. Now, we all know that when we see people on the streets of Times Square, voting for their favorite videos, they're reading off cue cards (they even screw up their lines sometimes). I've seen it done live and in person. Now I know that TRL isn't entirely rigged, and the omission of Jewel may be that the fans of Britney, N Sync, and Backstreet are simply more persistent than we are. That may be, but if we all vote, we can change that. Jewel certainly has a fan base capable of ousting 'the big three.' Even with the persistency of these fans keeping those three at the top, MTV should cover the entire music industry, not just what's "most" popular. The only show on MTV that completely covers the music industry is Pinfield's 120 Minutes... which airs from midnight to 2am. Their only completely honest program airs during one of the deadest airtimes on their lineup. What does that tell you? MTV has become less of 'Music Television' as much as it is 'Popular Culture Television.' M2, MTV's newest network, is better... more like the original MTV. It shows unknown VJs in coffee shops airing all the videos, known and unknown, popular and unpopular. The way it should be. It is, however, available in very limited markets as of now. I only get it from 12am- 5pm here on my minidish system, of course most of which I am either working or sleeping. MuchMusic, Canada's music network, is even better. A complete music channel, that airs everything. Now I don't live in Canada, so I don't know what's popular up there, but they seem to air more of everything, popular and unpopular. Clearly, the only way to change this is to show MTV what us Everyday Angels are made of. Vote early and vote often. :-) Only you can make a difference. >From what I can see, the execs on MTV base the remainder of the programming on who does well on TRL. Now perhaps we can put Jewel at number one and change the face of MTV. We can try, can't we??? My two cents (and a long two cents it was), Mike Thiele =========================================== Michael Thiele; mthiele@mike-thiele.org mthiele22@earthlink.net mthiele360@aol.com "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. Alas, the ugly beast of censorship rears it head. By the way since this is my first post I am proud to say that I've lived in a van for about a year and a half now and I love it!!! NOT a VW van, but a Chevy full size. I even put a sunroof in it. And of course I have a picture of Jewel sitting in the back of her van w/ guitar on my van wall. It was marked to be $7.99 but came out to be $6.99 at the register :) I think two songs are from Jewel Rockin' the Roickies. Sounds just like it. Not sure about Innocence Maintained, but I am pretty sure that WWSYS and Cold Song are. To those yelling "censorship" etc about the Target stores rejecting the Bits And Baubles original shipment because of what they determined to be "offensive artwork", you must remember why this CD even exists. Target ALONE is sponsoring & selling the CD, and donating $75,000 to Jewel's Higher Ground For Humanity, all the while promoting this CD to the YOUNGER Jewel fans...the "back to schoolers", and I believe (but am not sure) that at least one of their press releases mentioned pre-teenagers. Not to mention the Target Magazine with all of the Jewel features in it. If they determined that some of the artwork is inappropriate for children that age, the "target" demographic (pun intended), whether they are the customer or their parents are, that is their right. THEY are the only ones selling the CD and are the reason it exists. It's not the same as if they wouldn't sell a CD by an artist that was available in all stores. Catch my drift? (do they still use that phrase now-a-day? Or am I dating myself?) Mike :-) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #442 ***************************
