Hi All, Since I'm not on the regular list, I didn't get to read any of your Bearsville/Woodstock stories. If anyone wants to Fwd their's to me I'd like that. I didn't make BV this year for the first time in 2 years. I had a lot of problems getting together but, it seemed like every thing was going to work out, but fate intervened! I spent the 3 days before the weekend, checking out PT options & seeking a ride. I got 2 offers & ultimately went with one. I spent Thursday night & Friday morning, confirming my ride, & packing up for the trip. The person who offered a ride, confirmed with me, I gave them directions, & told me they'd be at my house between 12 & 1. Well, to make a long story short (too late for that), they never showed up & I was left sittin' there all packed up with no place to go! It royally sucked! (BTW, I was never called or emailed with an apology or explanation) I still had a half decent weekend. I went out & did a few things. Still missed seeing you all though. Hope it was good. and, despite what happened I still have faith in (Everyday) Angels! I opened it and it had alot of pics and it was a big article. The cover picture is the picture from Rolling stones the red tanktop with the back under it. I suggest everyone go get the cd you cant beat 6.99 for the cd! Michelle "shy angel" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jul 1999 15:58:35 CDT From: "Brian H" Subject: * Bits and Baubles!! I got it!! I'm so happy to finally add another CD to my collection. It's a really cool cd. I was hoping we would get a long version of wwsys, like we've heard about the concerts, but I wasn't expecting it. The cover looks really good. One thing that puzzled me, was that Target wasn't really marketing the CD. I found it right next to Pieces of You on the rack under J, nowhere else. :o( Maybe the target I went to just stinks, who knows. Someone also mentioned Jewel on the cover of the Target Magazine. And there are some really good pictures. I haven't read the article yet. AND IT'S FREE!! So, I got a bunch. hehe. Ok, that's all from me. It may all have to do with Gods. You see, Jupiter is the Roman king of Gods(equivalent to the Greek God, Zeus), Venus, the Goddess of love(Greek= Aphrodite), and while not mentioned, Mars= God of War(Greek= Ares). Now, Venus was Jupiter's daughter, and as the story goes- Venus was Married to the God of fire, Vulcan(Greek= Hephaestos), but her real love was Mars- a person who loved battle and violence, but found peace only in Venus' arms. One day, Vulcan caught the two in adultery with an invisible net and demanded to Jupiter that Mars be punished for this. Well, I don't know if that's what Jewel had in mind or not when she wrote the song. Ok, Angels, I just watched TRL, convinced that Jewel would be on, because I voted about fifty thousand times yesterday and today, and I figured a lot of the EDAs would- but she didn't make it on the countdown! Arg! C'mon, angels, if everyone on the list voted a few times (but as much as possible would be good), we could get Jupiter on! It takes like 3 seconds. Really. And another reason we need to vote our asses off for Jewel: Today someone sent a letter to TRL that they read on the air, saying, and this is true- NO GIRL HAS EVER BEEN NUMBER ONE ON TRL!!! Now this just makes me mad. The letter was urging people to vote Britney Spears into number one...that makes me rather nauseous. So, Angels- VOTE FOR JEWEL!!! While some list members have in fact found the new Jewel promo CD (Bits & Baubles) at their local Target store, many have not. The reason is that it appears the original shipment was sent back due to "offensive artwork", and that they do not expect the NEW shipments to arrive at ALL of the stores until mid next week. Some stores have them now, some will get them tomorrow or Friday, some next week. The main point is that ALL 800+ Target stores *are* scheduled to get them, according to Sarah, the girl who has written me that works in Targets' promotional department. So, if you live near a Target store please sit tight and wait it out before going nutso on us and posting to the list asking for others to get one for you. You should most certainly be able to get one by this time next week. I don't expect the stores to sell out quickly, if at all, as it hasn't been a widely announced release, and my local store had at least 20 of them last night. (NOTE - please don't write me asking me to get you one, I have a new situation here to deal with the next few days and will not have the time) Of course, those that do not live near a Target and want one will have to either post to the list asking for one, or perhaps email a friend or two who may have a store near them. (Which would be preferrred right now.....ask some friends first, then if you strike out, feel free to post to the list) Mike - Jewel list owner - - * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand, * or have a burning question about Jewel and/or the list, * The Jewel/EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * Many basic/common Jewel and list questions can be answered there :-) * * Need some Angelfood? But Jewel Kilcher certainly fueled the passions of a female-sided crowd of around 12,000 at the Tweeter Center last night, and despite winceable moments, showed that her sparkle is growing. Of course, up is probably the only way to go when you write songs for your first album as a teenager with a heart for greeting-card sentiment. But at 25, Jewel is growing on all fronts - - even with her biggest asset: her voice. While she competed with screaming fans at times, Jewel impressed from the outset last night, with soaring notes in love song ''Deep Water'' (wisely leaning back from the microphone) and a yearning seriousness in ''What's Simple Is True.'' And the message of faith in ''Hands'' gained drama from her five-piece band including beau Steve Poltz, who engaged Jewel in a lovey-eyed, single-mike duet on choruses of ''You Were Meant For Me.'' But Jewel was still at her best in a four-song solo acoustic turn, including a cowboy song inspired by her dad, the intimate ''Morning Song,'' and ''Fat Boy,'' a sensitive song about not fitting in, gaining kindred cheers for the final line ''Sometimes I feel the same.'' Of course, it's still a bit easier to be young and beautiful like Jewel, who wore a black tank-top and pants and kept her delivery relatively understated (even in a melodramatic soliloquy of oldie ''Foolish Games'') until she let her hair down late in her 100-minute set to rock out and loosen up. Granted, Jewel will never outdo Melissa Etheridge in that department, but she held her own on an electric guitar for a volcanic ''Down So Long'' and some new songs before killing time with slinky dancing and overblown scat-singing in ''Who Will Save Your Soul.'' Then she yodeled ''before they pull the electricity'' (for curfew) in a last move to show off, and please fans. If you've got it, flaunt it, and there's no doubt that Jewel is here to stay, and grow. Only opening for Jewel could Rusted Root seem like a wicked bundle of tight ensemble energy. The Pittsburgh hippie-beat sextet streches more than it jams, and while the soft dynamics of ''Heaven'' fared better than the cliched metaphors of ''Moon,'' the band's songs reek of neo-spirituality that wears thin. A snatch of ''All Along The Watchtower'' was also a wrong move for a group tagged as a poor man's Dave Matthews Band (whose Carter Beauford can do more polyrhythms on one drum kit than the Root bunch did in a communal percussion break). A finale of ''Ecstacy'' (with Michael Glabicki adding Middle-Eastern trills on acoustic guitar) hit the spot. But Rusted Root still seems short of inspiring material. And Jewel had the nerve to let Poltz pad the night with a half-hour middle set of sometimes overly clever, Dylan-esque songs that at least entertained at times. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #441 ***************************
