It is common knowledge that the Woodstock organizers are trying to get as many of todays' & the weekends' performers to take part in it, so it is certainly feasable that Jewel MIGHT partake in that. (again, no guarantees, it's just a possibility). The Red Hot Chili Peppers are scheduled from 8:40 to 10:10 pm ET, with the Hendrix tibute TBA (To Be Announced), but I would imagine it would start within 30 minutes after the end of the RHCP set, as most acts followed previous acts within 30 minutes. So, I recommend to those of you who have the Pay Per View to tape the whole shabang (the PPV ends at 5am ET) and those that are tuning in the scambled TV broadcast or are listening to the various webcasts might want to tune in to those webcasts after 10pm ET. I was talking to some EDA and they said that they didn't give their sign to the security who was going to give them all to Jewel, because they heard that they were throwing them away.. Ok, if anyone knows any further information, or made a sign too for the 7/24 show, please let me know. I made pictures with pastel and charcoal which took a loong time on there and pasted them on the poster, and wrote a long letter to her on the back. If the signs got thrown away then im very pissed off because they can't just tell people they're gonna give it to Jewel and then throw it away.. maybe I wanted to keep it! I was kinda upset about parting with the pictures since they were so nice, but I did it cuz I thought Jewel would get it Grr! If you know anything about this, please write back. A few weeks before the concert my mom called up Jones Beach to ask if signs were allowed, and she said yes, Jewel requests that she wants the signs.. and you don't have to give it to her, but you can if you want. So then my mom went to the security guard when they were collecting the signs, and he said during Jewel's set I could go up and ask the next security guard if I could go by the stage and give it to her. So I got really excited, but then that security guard left, and the other guy told me to go to the center and ask the other security guards. I went to them , and I told them I drew these pictures for Jewel.. and they said they were very nice, and I put it with the other posters. They said they would definately give it to her after the show.. this sounded believable to me, but I'm not sure.. I feel really sad now because there's no real way I could ever find out if my long, hard work to make this for her was ever actually worth it:( ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Jul 1999 19:48:39 -0400 From: "Alex MacPhee" Subject: * Woodstock Well, as usual, Jewel was amazing! From "Near You Always" right up to her Yodeling sign-off, she did a brilliant job! She followed an AMAZING act (Elvis Costello), and it was fortunate that she followed, otherwise no one could have equaled him. I don't know if anybody saw this, but I think it was during Elvis' act- the camera was surfing through the crowd, and there was a lady sitting down that looked JUST like Jewel- black top as well. Was it Jewel? Bloody Columbia House- pain in the rear as usual! Thanks to them, we(well, I at least)missed the beginning of Jewel's act- her coming out, etc. I imagine that this was a very big event for Jewel- for one thing she has a big admiration for Jimi Hendrix- and thought that she might play one of his songs, and a bit saddened when she didn't(myself a BIG Hendrix Fan) The song selection was a good one, IMO. A nice mixture of both albums with some not featured on either. WWSYS was certainly...different! And a quick question: what was the purpose of the Plexiglas(?)surrounding the drums? Oh, and of what I saw of Rusted Root, I liked- I look forward to seeing them in concert! Alex, the Scottish Angel "In the end, only kindness matters"- a lyric that certainly applies to this weekend! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Jul 1999 19:55:17 EDT From: AngelGrlKZ@aol.com Subject: * Spirit Tour Shirt Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows how i can get the spirit tour shirt that has jewel playing guitar on the front and the countries she's touring. It is actually a hard technique to find with your voice, and since we all know she doesn't smoke, that means she had to develop that. I think it makes her sound original and quite impressive, I think! Its like....she's gettin' into it!!! I heard her do the "meow meow" thing at the end of Who Will Save Your Soul at her Colorado show....I just think she is so cool in that she is SO aware of her audience, and her own sexuality and looks while she is performing. BUT I do think that at times she concentrates on how she is looking (like during the first song on Sat Nite Live) rather than getting the song out..... Whoa! I rambled! I think I tend to do that when I type! Sorry!! Laurel Colorado Angel...or maybe Rambling Angel?...!! I was told by the people at Jewel's website in late June that there would be a new video out on Jewel (with concert footage etc.) in about 2 months. Has anyone heard anything on this? Mr. BB? Thanks! sadly, i wasn't expecting jewel's performance for woodstock and i missed the first 2 seconds of it (on my recording). it upset me because it was the recording i was doing in superior quality SP with my hi-fi system. i'm hoping they will have a replay and i can re-tape the first few seconds and do a second taping in SLP. what has everyone else been taping woodstock (jewel) in SP or SLP? It was also nice to see all the members of the band in the exact same position on stage as they were for the tour concert i was at! jewel's woodstock setlist was good, but obviously she can't get everything into it that she can during a concert. i would have liked to seen absence of fear in her encore, but the yodeling was great! (question: does jewel have any other yodeling song besides that one? it's the only one i've ever herad) tomorrow we get to see the premier of jupiter and more behind the scenes jewel! it should be exciting! what an AMAZING JEWEL SUMMER! especially with the vh1 artist of the month in august. (question: is there any shows done on vh1 for artist of the month besides "story tellers?" Not much Jewel text actually, but maybe later they will review her set more, as they have been the other sets by other artists. This one is mostly about the rain that occurred during her set. Just go to the site to see the rest of the articles/reports, they are pretty good. The Jewel article is below :-) Mike :-) P.S. It was funny. Jewel's set was the only ones to get rained on. The crowd cheered loudly whem Jewel sang " you stood in the rain" during Foolish Games :-) ************** Woodstock '99 Report #54: Fans Head For Cover As Rains Pours Down On Jewel's Set Festival medical workers were prepared for storm. Contributing Editor Frank Tortorici reports: ROME, N.Y. — As Jewel was singing the refrain "swallow the moon" from her single "Jupiter" early Sunday evening (July 25), huge gray clouds covered the sun and let loose a torrent of driving rain. The cloudburst had many in the crowd near Woodstock's east stage running for cover or hauling out makeshift rain gear. While an industrious few had umbrellas or rain ponchos with them, most grabbed discarded cardboard or trash bags to shield their bodies from a storm that seemed confined to one side of the festival grounds. At the west stage a few miles away, where Collective Soul were covering Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train," there wasn't a single raindrop. Chalk it up to the erratic nature of lake-heavy upstate New York weather. "The rain doesn't bother us," said 18-year-old Erin Bradley of Boston. Her friend Sofia Cozzolino, also 18, said, "This storm adds to the whole aura." While it might have endowed the event with an air of excitement, the rain was a concern to some. Woodstock '99 medical workers were poised for problems the weather could bring, with half the crowd in the area of the storm for Jewel's set. Rome's Sally Myhr, a medical staff member snug in her rain jacket and hood, was standing by the sound towers and aluminum bleachers and scaffolding to warn people to stay away due to the electrocution risk. "We followed the forecast," Myhr said of the medical staff's quick response. "We need to get everyone away from the [dangerous] areas and be on guard." As she was motioning festival-goers to safety, gusts of wind were spreading dirt and mud droplets on fleeing people. One of those running for cover, despite being outfitted in rain gear, was 31-year-old Karen Shull of Brooklyn, N.Y. "I brought the [rainwear] with me every day to be safe," Shull said. "I'm going to the porta-potty now." The endless lines of portable toilets added to the strange atmosphere, since most of the units hadn't been cleaned and gave off a sickening smell. As about a third of Jewel's crowd left the stage area for a nearby fire station or for shuttle buses, the sun broke through the clouds about 6:45 p.m. and restored relative stillness to the area. "I love the rain," Jewel said from the stage. But judging by the happy faces in the crowd once the rain stopped, she was in the minority. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Jul 1999 21:56:40 EDT From: Superspy78@aol.com Subject: * jewel at woodstock Hi everyone I just finished listening to the Jewel performance from Woodstock on the radio. I'm interested in getting a copy of Jewel's Woodstock performance if it's a stereo/HiFi recording and if someone can dub it the same way in slow play. I ordered Day 3 of Woodstock, but I was gone for the day and I programmed my VCR's. I either did so too late or she started early. In any case I blew it. I don't know if she started early or what but I only got the last 15 minutes. I wasted $30. I knew I should have started my VCR's much earlier. Oh well. I can either pay someone to cover their cost or I've got some Jewel CD's that I made or several video of Jewel stuff. I can send this someone my list, if you'd like. Thanks!!
