I'm a new member and I've been a fan of Jewel since her first album Pieces Of You debuted. I went to one of her concerts in 1997 and I'll be going again this month. I also saw her at Jingleball in '96. She's an awesome songwriter, singer, and poet and hopefully actor too (I wouldn't know until Riding With The Devil comes out). If anyone wants to talk with me, email me at Uzigash@aol.com or instant message me at Uzigash. Hope to talk to you! Jen P.S. If you're going to any one of Jewel's Spirit tour concerts, bring canned foods to help end hunger in Rock and Wrap It Up! It was so wonderful, as it was last year. So here's my little summary of all the fun so everyone who didn't go will know what they missed and will maybe show up next year (or at some other gathering in the meantime) to join in. :) Let's see... Although I live in North Carolina, I was traveling from Maine where I had been visiting my folks. I got to stop for a few days and stay with Eric in New Jersey (the EDA formerly known as "crashboy"). He was a very gracious host who even put up with my lecturing him about not eating enough fresh fruit (no, pop-tarts do not count!!). Friday morning we headed off for Bearsville. I was surprised to find that it only took a few hours to get there, since I'm used to driving so much further to get anywhere. We were warmly welcomed by the people there (some were out tubing, so there were only a few). It was so wonderful to see everyone again! Even though I'd been out of touch with some since the reunion last year, we fell right into gabbing and visiting like last year. Mike Connell arrived shortly after we did, and it was great to see my "Unca Mike" in person again! Yay! Then I got to meet Mark (aka Crunch), my long lost Adopt-A-Newbie parent! We've been in communication for what, 2 or 3 years now and I still hadn't met the guy! So I was very happy to meet him and find out he's just as nice in person. :) Eric was nice enough to put down his beer long enough to accompany me to the store in search of tofu hot dogs (ok, so he didn't put the beer down, but he came anyway). :) We lucked out and got to meet Lurch, yes the original Lurch from the Adams Family, who is currently working as a bagger at the Grand Union Grocery store in whatever town that was in the Catskills. :) Friday night was spent sampling some beer, setting some poor marshmallows on fire, and going out to the road for stargazing. Just can't get enough of those stars! :) There was some talk about me getting to be a temporary stand in Harris Black Sheep. As far as I could fathom, the initiation consisted mainly of striving never to get caught holding an empty beer. Egads! :) Saturday we all had to drag our dehydrated butts out of bed, but for a worthy cause. We drove to the Bearsville theater (yep, the place where the infamous JewelStock was held) and had a little meeting with some people from HGH. We had sort of an idea circle and talked about some projects they are funding and what types of things we were interested in seeing pursued. Then it was outside for some pizza and roping wooden cows. I didn't get to try roping Woody the plywood cow, but I plan to when I have my gathering/stopover this fall (ya hear that, Dennis??). Then off to Woodstock to terrorize the town and look at all the lovely things for sale. Fortunately I left my wallet back at the campground. After wilting from the heat (which was temporarily abated by the free icecream at the town hall in Woodstock--such a great town!), we drove back to Steve's campground and had some food. Just basically sat around the fire and munched and chatted. Some people got to go swimming, but some of us were just tired of driving and wanted to relax. Just as well, since I hear the pool antics were pretty intense. :) Eventually everyone came back and was enjoying the fire, when we realized that the people in the next site over had a green and purple fire! Tammy and I were just too curious, so we went over and were rewarded with the secret of "magic fairy dust". We even got some to take back and sprinkle on our own fire. Woohoo! Then Dennis (who had borrowed kittycat pajamas from Sarah) took Alice and me (and some other helpers) snipe hunting in the woods. We baited them with cheesecake and paper bags (New York cheesecake, since they're New York snipes), and sat in wait. I caught mine on the bridge, then Alice got brave and ran into the woods and bagged one. We hustled back to the campfire to make sure they got lots of Easy Cheese to keep them happy. However, if you ever go snipe hunting with a Harris, make sure to poke air holes in the snipe traps once you've caught them, or they'll suffocate, like mine did. boohoo... Sunday we got to go tubing down the river, which was COLD!! Especially to me, the transplanted Southern Belle who's used to nice warm beaches. :) But it was the most fun I've had in a long time. The highlight would have to be the Danger part. There was a part that was supposedly dangerous, and we were supposed to get out and walk past, then get back in. Well, not us EDAs! We plowed through, then got out, walked back up, and did it again! Yeah!! :) The second time around, I flipped my tube and got completely soaking wet, which was wonderful! What a rush! Nice to have the sun shining to dry off and warm up as we floated the rest of the way. :) Then the sad part, packing up and cleaning up our mess (and trying to give away all the leftover food). :) Then, despite a huge craving for Mexican food on my part, and a clamouring for some less greasy food on the part of some other peoples, we headed off to the Diner Diner Diner for the farewell feast. That was pretty interesting, with Dee the waitress shocking Mark by grabbing him by his goatee when he wasn't listening. He spent the rest of our time there cowering in fear, but still managed to get grabbed a few more times. :) Then the *really* sad part, the hugs and goodbyes. We eventually tore ourselves away and drove off. I was so bummed about leaving behind everyone, but was rapidly cheered when 30 minutes down the road we saw a broken down car surrounded by EDAs. Yay! We got to stop and help out and share some fruit (except for Eric, who doesn't eat fruit) and water. A Bearsville Reunion Reunion! Then some rapid rearranging as we threw stuff around to make space for Tom and Kelli and the car. Then we drove to Kelly's house (not the same as Kelli, but the one who shared yummy hummus with everyone. Yumm!) and did more car arranging, then Eric and I drove off. I got to crash one more night in Yankee territory, then headed off in the morning. I had a safe trip back, and knew I had reached the south when I spied a sticker on a car in my town: "White Trash Princess". Teeheehee... So there you have it, my summary of Bearsville. Now that I look through it, it seems kinda boring compared to the actual thing. But the moral of the story is that these gatherings are wonderful!!! I promise you will have so much fun at these things, and get to meet the most bestest people around! Join in on the fun, and please feel free to come along to the reunion next year! I'll be giving rides again, most likely from North Carolina. And there's other nice folks who give rides too. We don't bite. :) Not me, anyway. :) Hugs, Rebecca Blessed Be :) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Jul 1999 14:59:29 EDT From: Angeljlr98@aol.com Subject: * keep forgetting to post this Hi guys, I live in Oxnard, CA and they have a Santa Barbara station we get out here called 103.3, and they play Jupiter every night on the "top 9 at 9" So if you're in L.A., Santa Barbara, San Luis Obisbo, Thousand Oaks, Ventura, or anywhere around these cities, you can probably get the channel. We learned a lot from those who attended the workshop. That was really just a beginning primarily focused on educating Jewel's management & HGH staff on what EDAs value in life. This will help us develop HGH programs & to better work with EDAs in the future. Determining what you personally value in life & being that in your everyday life is what the "Be The Difference That Makes A Difference" HGH program is all about. We thank everyone who spent time discussing this (&/or just hangin out) with us in Woodstock! I'm really writing today to finally announce my retirement as "MrBB-InfoBoy" from the Jewel lists. As I announced back when we first began revamping Jewel's website last year, I planned on eliminating my day to day activities here, so that I can better concentrate on Jewel's vast recording archive work & developement of Jewel & Nedra's fan related projects. This is where my primary interests & responsibilities are and thats what I prefer to do from here on out. Basically, all fun stuff! :-) Providing accurate information to you is still important to me, but we've got Jewel's website rolling now & it's all there. For those who may not know this, I also personally write & update the calendar, headline news, lyric pages, setlist pages and rumor/truth areas on Jewel's website. So you can easily find accurate information from me, right there, 24 hours a day. My content there already covers much of what I was doing here for the past three years. Rather than spending so much time duplicating that content here and then answering the endless email that inevitably generates, I feel my time is better spent on the increased archive related work, development of new fan comunications, related HGH & EDAFoundation projects & enjoying my life. I also want to get back to my Future Folklore series & continue to develop that. I will still occasionally be in direct contact with all of you when the J-Team has future events or activities that include the EDAs or related correspondance. However, starting with the recent "Bits & Baubles" promo CD info, all basic news & all calendar related information will be on Jewel's website exclusively from now on. It's now primarily up to you to check the website & inform each other & answer each other's questions. With so many knowledgable people here, that should be extremely easy to do. The J-Team has many plans to include EDAs in our future activities & I'd prefer to primarily limit my list posts to these enjoyable areas now. For your convenience, when I do post these things from Jewel Management, I will continue to put "MrBB" in the subject line, so its easier to find amongst the mountain of other email many of you recieve every day. We'll also be developing some new "official fan communications" avenues over the next several months, so that we can better work & communicate with both The EDAs & the enormous global fanbase into the millennium. We're not particularly interested in having a "typical fan club" & we'll be exploring alternative approaches that will be more interesting & personally rewarding for all of us. We also have several great new website features, including lots of new multimedia & tour stuff, coming very soon. You'll hopefully find a lot of laughs soon, too! Humor is a significant side of Jewel (& all of us!) that is sorely lacking from almost all Jewel content websites. I also just finished updating the setlist page today. All of Jewel's & Steve's 1999 Tour setlists are up & complete, with the exception of the last two shows, which I haven't gotten to yet. (see setlists link below the calendar.) When major things of interest are added to Jewel's website, I'll try to post a quick note alerting the EDAs, but it's best to simply check it yourself if you want to always be up to date. This list has been an amazing & challenging experience! I've learned an incredible amount from The EDAs over the past four years, not to mention making many friends in the process. There's unlimited potential within this special community & I hope it continues to be an enjoyable experience for everyone. Seeya at Jewel's shows occasionally, future EDA/J-Team events & on the official website at www.jeweljk.com. Say hello if you're at the upcoming NYC, Holmdel, Mansfield or Hartford shows. As the second leg of the US Tour begins, please remember to bring canned food to all Jewel's shows for the "Rock & Wrap It Up" food drive. Best wishes, Alan (MrBB) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Jul 1999 17:22:41 -0400 From: Eric Montas Subject: * Attn: Woodstock attendees! For those going to Woodstock this weekend, I'm sure we'd all like to get together at some point, right? Since running into each other is going to be almost impossible, how about calling each other up? I'm going with a bunch of other EDAs and friends in 3 cars (dennis, amy, alice, chris moynihan, leif, debbie, johnny wilson and his mom), so we'll be together when we arrive friday morning. but for everyone else, if you have a cell phone, email me your number and i'll email you mine, and hopefully the towers won't be overloaded. Another option is two-way radios. I bought 3 Motorola TalkAbout 101 radios for the car ride up. They are set at channel 6, code 9, for those who can tune into that frequency. And lastly, you can always email me your location when you get there at the communications tent. That would be the most unlikely, but it could still work. Well, that's about it. Hope to see everyone there. eric :) - -- Crash Boy's EDA Page --- http://crashboy.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Jul 1999 14:41:04 PDT From: "The Sexi One" Subject: Re: * Near You Always video i didn't know there was a video! can somone dub me a copy of it????? i'd be so much appercatied! ~taryn the off the wall angel - ----Original Message Follows---- From: JewelEDA21@aol.com To: jewel@smoe.org Subject: * Near You Always video Date: Wed, 21 Jul 1999 16:13:16 EDT Hey there i lost my copy of the NEAR YOU ALWAYS video, anyone else have a new copy? thanks, Seb ;) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Jul 1999 18:13:56 -0400 From: Mike Schlosser Subject: * What's Simple Is True/VH1's StoryTellers Hello Everybody, I don't know how many of you angels out there surf the internet on Macs or how many of you will be interested in this, but I thought I'd let you guys know. First here's a little background info.... Today Apple Computer kicked off Macworld Expo '99 in new york, during which they announced many things, one of them being a new 'Quicktime Streaming Channel' that would carry 'VH1' content.... Being the curious person that I am, I found the URL to that server and connected to it, I was VERY happy to find that one of the things you could watch was Jewel's performance of 'What's Simple Is True' from the recent 'VH1 Storytellers' taping!!!! Granted the quality was a tad shaky! (it was down-sampled for my crappy 56k connection). It was still cool to see early! (I believe Jewel mentioned something about it being included on the soundtrack to Ride With The Devil' during the intro) Anyway this requires Quicktime 4.0 to view, it is free....QT4 is avalible for Mac & PC... Then you'll need to go here to get the VH1 link: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/showcase/entertainment/vh1/index.html Feel free to write me, if anyway needs technical help, and no I'm not a computer geek.... Later, - --Mike (The song is stored in the area of the site where they keep 'outtakes' so WSIT probably won't be aired! Which in my opinion is cool MAKE ROOM FOR 'Love Me Just Leave Me Alone!!!!') ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #418 ***************************
