I didn't mention it before because for some reason I thought Jewel had called him "Otz" on stage and then everyone was writing "Atz" and I was set back and a little confused and didn't really know how to say it. Anyway, me, my sister Mindi, and Derrick had gone down to the Woodlands Pavillion in The Woodlands (Houston) to see if we could get into soundcheck. Well, we couldn't so Derrick and went to walk around the pavillion with his cousin (no I still don't know why or what they actually were doing but that's besides the point) while Mindi and I continued to listen through the gates to soundcheck. Well we couldn't see the actual stage (just the top of it not the stage part) but we could hear her quite well over the speakers. Well...and here's the strange part. There is this boy (well he must have been older than I thought because I met him the next day in New Orleans in the bars) standing next to us and he is listening too at the gate. Well...so I thought. I had noticed him walking around in front earlier just watching all the people go into the soundcheck who had won tickets from a local radio station (96.5). Any how (I'm just rambling now...please excuse me) he keeps looking over at Mindi and me and I sort of thought somehow that maybe he was going to try to hit on us or something. Ok, that's really a silly thought to have but I guess I'm always wary of when guys keep staring and smiling at me because I think it will lead to something else. Anyway, please ignore the complex! LOL! Soooooo.....I decide "Well hey I'll just be nice to the kid and strike up a conversation". So I ask him if he got a ticket for the concert (hey, he could have just been trying to listen to soundcheck and drool!) and he says yeah that it's for the 8th row and he just got it from some guy at a car that he points to at that poing! I'm like hey cool how'd you manage that and we talk and I can't really remember what else was said. Anyway, Mindi was there too but she was just kinda quiet (as usual) so she didn't really talk to him. ;-) So Derrick came back later and I don't even know if he really even noticed the guy there but he was there. Sooooo....time passes by and the concert starts. I have almost forgotten about the boy at the gate because it really wasn't that big of a deal at the time. So during Steve's set these "kids" run on stage and the first one I notice is that boy! I start screaming at Mindi to look. I'm like "Mindi, that's that boy that was outside at soundcheck!" and we sit there in awe of how that lucky bastard got to go up on stage. I still at this point thought that the people who ran on stage were all lucky fans picked out of the audience or something! Well I don't remember how much longer it was before I realized that one of them was Jewel but it couldn't have been more than half a minute if even that long. I of course was shocked again. I was excited to see Jewel up there in the getup that she was in. In fact I prefer seeing her that way than all fancied up. I like her as herself. But anyway, by now I'm REALLY jealous of that kid! I'm like "My God Mindi! He's dancing up there with Jewel! How lucky is he!!!!!!" We keep going on and on about it. And BTW, who else ran on? I know there were more than 2 people (Jewel and this "kid") but I was so focused on those 2 that I couldn't really see the others. Anyway, later during the concert Jewel announces that her little brother Atz (see I thought she said Otz but whatever) is here and is coming on stage yada yada yada. So I don't even really think much of it till that "kid" walks out on stage! I about hit the ceiling! I was TOTALLY freaking out! I was just in shock. I mean this was that boy from soundcheck! I can't even describe all the things that went through my head then. I don't remember much about his performance because I was still trying to catch my breath from shock. Oh and BTW, I realized later that there is NOT an 8th row in that pavillion oddly enough! LOL! There are rows 1 - 6 in the pit (I was on the 4th row) and then behind the pit in the second section (covered seats...non-pit) there are rows A - Z and AA - ?? and then there is uncovered seats ?? - ZZ and then the lawn. Anyway, it just hit me during the night after the concert! LOL! Quite the strange encounter. Oh and I met him again in New Orleans but I never mentioned the little Houston thing. I think he remembered me because in the last bar we were in he was right in front of me at the bar and kept looking at me funny. It was either a look that said "ummmm...ahhhhh that was you...ok I feel a little silly or guilty now" or it was a look of knowing that he'd seen me somewhere but didn't know where. Basically if he did know he'd probably wonder how come I was also in New Orleans if I was the same person. Oh well. LOL! I never wanted to tell him anyway. I didn't want to look like that little girl (I look quite young) who was at the gates of the Woodlands Pavillion getting so excited about his sister. I would feel a little embarassed. Hmmmm...well you know the story now. ;-) And also in my letter before I forgot to mention that I caught a pic after the concert. It was one that said Tony Hall on it. :-) And then in New Orleans I met Tony Hall. How small this world is! I only wish I could say I've met Jewel but I haven't. ;-( Well maybe someday. I just hope that she will be as down to earth as her band, family, and ex-boyfriend are. I've heard people say different but I can still hope that she is just a normal person. I much prefer talking to normal people than those who think they are high and mighty. But I don't believe she thinks such. I can at least hope. I'm in San Antonio, Tx and I actually had heard Jupiter a little while ago for the first time ( I have been in trouble so I wasn't able to send this ) on 96.1. I have listened to various stations trying to hear Jupiter and that was the first station I'd heard it on. Was I the only one who had not heard it? Hey, Jennifer (Sweet Duration) has told me bits and pieces of the nice things that were shared since the EDA/Higher Ground show last month in San Diego. I had SO much fun on that trip. I got to meet all kinds of people from fans to musicians to singers. Because we flew in from out of the area I felt particularily disoriented but the EDA's provided excellent assistance in helping us get around. You guys were awesome! Special thanks to Jamie who sold us her extra Jewel tickets for the show June 26th, it was increadible! Great seats and what a performance. It was my first time seeing Jewel live. She really takes her music beyond what she does on CD. Here's my most recent recent San Diego related even. Last night I'm out doing a show with my band Fringe along with Sweet Duration and just as we start up a song I happened to look towards the front door of the club as it was swinging shut. For just a split second I coulda swore I saw girl standing outside that looked exactly like the girl Jamie I met in San Diego. I thought to myself, "No way! I have to see who it really is". Since I sing on a cordless mic I was able to run outside and see who it was, and sure enough it was Jamie & Ryan!!!! What a great suprise! If only they'd come to the back door they would've been allowed to bypass the bouncer.
